Ulaanbaatar - the capital city of Mongolia, has undergone rapid expansion due to the high-levels of rural-to-urban migration. In-migrants have been settling in Ger areas which have developed on Ulaanbaatar city's periphery to accommodate population growth that has exceeded the capacity planned urban core area. The factors behind in-migration in recent years include poor incomes in the countryside, the Dzuds (extremely cold winter occurrences) of 1999-2010 which resulted in the loss of livestock - the main source of income in the countryside, and the Supreme Court decision of 2003 that granted citizens the right to the "freedom of movement" within Mongolia. The in-migrants have settled in the Ger-areas located outside the conventional built-up area of the city with predominantly traditional Ger (felt-tent) housing and low-levels of infrastructure and service provision.

Using Mach 3 CAM software, I'm running my first program on the machine.
With a sharpie in place of a cutting tool, I'm running some of the sample g-code files that are bundled with the software.
Police keep white students from Eastern High school on the move October 5, 1954 after they marched across the Key Bridge in an attempt to link up with Anacostia High students opposing integration.
An earlier march by Anacostia students had been halted by police at the Key Bridge.
The students and some of their parents staged a boycott for several days at Anacostia and were joined by students at three other high schools and several junior highs.
The most intense resistance took place at Anacostia where rallies of up to 1,000 students took place.
The District’s integration took place following the Supreme Court’s Bolling v. Sharpe decision in May 1954 that was brought about by the Consolidated Parents Group.
Consolidated represented parents and students living near the Anacostia River and led a seven year fight that began with a boycott of deplorable conditions at the all-Black Browne Junior High on Benning Road NE.

One of the most important steps in recuperating street children is their reintegration back into society.
We are privileged at Hummingbird due to the diversity of our activities, offering multiple opportunities for comfortably integrating street children with other, lesser problematic community children.
By sharing activities on the same level as the other kids, no matter what social background they have, this type of integration helps raise their self-esteem. Also the fact that they are not labelled "street children" by the other kids in our programme helps considerably.
Here, Claudiney and Roney line up for a Capoeira session. Capoeira is one of the most effective sporting, artistic and cultural activitities for rebuilding the lives of street children. Our Capoeira Centre is led by former street children recuperated by Hummingbird, now young adults. This fact helps considerably in the understanding of Roney and Claudiney's transitional situation.

Looking southeastward at the wonderfully exposed Douglas Fault adjacent to the Upper Falls.
One of the most underreported aspects of Wisconsin state parks is that they are often infested with mythological creatures—dryads (wood nymphs), naiads (water nymphs), fauns, centaurs, and so on. Fortunately, Bacchus and his retinue of maenads (crazed and overtly dangerous party girls) have not yet been spotted.
As this image demonstrates, naiads can be particularly troublesome. Here two of their number have surreptitiously approached an unwary, lithically lounging couple that has ventured too close to their aqueous realm. The tragic result: the naiads are about to drag the unwitting offenders into the Upper Falls plunge pool, where they will probably turn them into zombies.
Of course, I realize that some unimaginative people might think that this whole tableau shows nothing more than two kids sneaking up on their parents to splash them. But since we are now deep into the twenty-first-century Endarkenment, such rational conclusions should be categorically rejected.

This photo, like the Part 4 image, was taken on a late-summer day when the flow of the Amnicon River was minimal. Much more of the lower bedrock, usually covered by water, is nicely exposed here. Compare this shot with Part 3, taken three years later.
The reverse fault's up-thrust hanging wall, composed of late-Mesoproterozoic Chengwatana Volcanic Group basalt, is visible along a diagonal just above the human (or mythological) figures.
Below the fault plane is the footwall of somewhat younger but still most probably late-Mesoproterozoic Orienta Sandstone (maximum deposition age = 1.059 Ga). Normally, it's brick-red to maroon in color, but where it's usually submerged it has a pale gray or even a whitish cast. Note the very thin bedding and, in places, the high dip (angle of tilt) of the strata. The latter is the result of stresses incurred when the fault was active. That in turn was one manifestation of the Midcontinent Rift was inverted during an episode of crustal compression.
