Asbestos insulated steam, condensate etc pipework in and around large factory refining tower.

Weathering, heat stress, water ingress and bird attack (nesting material) have left it in poor condition. It now requires encapsulation (cladding etc) or removal under controlled conditions.

This shows the 2 part tape guide. The 2 parts are insulated from each other by the plastic washer and nylon screw. The lower part (longer) is in contact with the metal chassis. the top (shorter) part is connected to a solder tag on the wire from the announcement recording PCB. A metal foil on the tape connects the 2 parts and thus earths the wire at the end of the tape.

In the old days they used sawdust and newspapers to isolate houses. This one is really old!!

As part of going green, I installed honeycomb shades, which cut heat loss in winter and keep the house cool in summer.

One of the major problems with dwelling full-time in a conversion van, is the heat loss thru the large rv style windows. Today i installed panels of expanded Styrofoam R-3.8 per inch. I got a good deal since the panels were damaged 50 % off.

Piping Technology & Products, Inc. manufactured 29 insulated trunnions ranging in NPS from 1.5" to 10" with the larger trunnion measuring 54" in height. The trunnions were fabricated from 304 stainless steel with Micarta insulation. They will be used in an LNG plant as insulated pipeline elbows.

Moving inside the Great Room: front door on left wall, back porches beyond right-side walls. The blue stuff on the Great Room ceiling (actually the underside of the roof deck) is a one-inch thick layer of closed-cell foam insulation. This will be followed by a 3- to 4-inch thick layer of open-cell foam insulation. And, yes, the installers donned additional protection before spraying the open-cell foam. Apparently it generates harmful gases as we had to stay outside of the house for the next two days. Its hard to see (look closely at the right side of the photo) but the 2x4 wall studs on 2x6 plates are staggered, one to the inside and one to the outside, allowing for a continuos insulation barrier. Except for the door and window framing, no studs touch both the inside and outside walls. This thermal break will increase the R-value of the walls by 25 percent with no increase in framing costs. Things to note in this photo: Blue and red plastic pipes stick out of the kitchen floor. They are the cold and hot water lines for the sink in our kitchen island. The cooktop is not going in the island but underneath the window on the wall opposite the 12-foot wide quad-slider patio door. There are three additional plastic-wrapped beams (total of four) spanning the width of the Great Room. The 8”x10” beams were cut from 10”x12” oak timbers salvaged from oil industry “drilling mats”. They look 150 years old but are actually only 15 to 20 years old. Additional beams will become lintels for the uncased kitchen doorways: 10-foot wide into the Great Room, 8-foot wide into the stairway lobby. The Great Room will have a shallow “cathedral” ceiling against the underside of the scissor trusses. A second floor bedroom is visible through he triangular opening in the wall behind applicator. That opening will be sheet-rocked and become the upper end-wall of the Great Room. And the wall is an exterior wall for the second floor bedroom above the Great Room roof line (the other side of the blue insulation).

Piping Technology and Products supplied these cryogenic and axial stop cold shoes for an LNG facility in Australia. A total of 28 assemblies were fabricated with carbon steel, stainless steel and Micarta® G-10 insulation blocks. They were a wide range of lengths from 24" to 36", widths from 6 3/4" to 30" and heights from 9" to 10 1/4". The pipe shoes will support pipes ranging in diameter from 6" to 48" NPS in cryogenic temperatures as low as -162°C. A special paint system was used for the carbon steel components to resist rust. PMI testing was performed on the stainless parts prior to shipping.
