I poeti lavorano di notte
quando il tempo non urge su di loro,
quando tace il rumore della folla
e termina il linciaggio delle ore.
I poeti lavorano nel buio
come falchi notturni od usignoli
dal dolcissimo canto
e temono di offendere Iddio.
Ma i poeti, nel loro silenzio
fanno ben più rumore
di una dorata cupola di stelle.
Alda Merini

Poets work at night
when time does not urge on them
silent when the noise of the crowd
and ending the lynching of hours.
Poets working in the dark
Clubs like hawks or nightingales
the sweetest song
and fear of offending God.
But the poets, in their silence
do more noise
a gilded dome of stars.

I am reposting this in memory of my granddaughter Tarnia, born still at 39 weeks on the 25th September, 2001. She would have been 19 years old today. Sometimes it seems like 19 years, but other times, it seems like yesterday.
‘Where are you going?’ I asked. ‘To dance amongst the stars!’ She laughed".
May the angels protect you,
let sadness forget you,
Goodbye Little Star.
30th October:
In honour and memory for the people who where killed in another needless terrorist attack in Nice yesterday. Thinking of them and the families who have lost a loved one. So soon after a teacher was killed in the Paris area last week.
The photo is of a church in Monaco taken in 1983 when I spent a working holiday there. (Nearest I could get to Nice).
I did stop at Nice, but only for the boat train so didn't get a chance to have a real visit.
On a lighter note, the Silly News for today is : National Breadstick Day - nationaldaycalendar.com/national-breadstick-day-last-frid...
Or : National Candy Corn Day - nationaldaycalendar.com/national-candy-corn-day-october-30/
How odd. 😂

In Memory of Joshua:
"Please don't cry
It was time for me to go
I know how much you loved me
Your tears told me so."
One year ago today Joshua passed away. He and Jeremiah were litter mates. Joshua was only ten years old.
It's hard to believe that he has been gone so long, sometimes it feels like its been forever.
We have so many great memories of him and miss him every day!
I thought I would make this collage of some of my favorite pictures of him.
In the top two (right side) photo's Joshua is on the left and Jeremiah on the right.
Our Vet's Office made the clay paw print the day that he passed away. It's made by: ClayPaws® the original paw print kit™. Kits can be ordered from www.veterinarywisdom.com to make your own paw print.
I used photocollage.com to make it.

"Jean's Rose" is a hybrid tea rose known for its deep cherry red blooms with pink and cream stripes, which fade to pink with age. It has a strong, fruity fragrance. The young foliage is a bronzed red, maturing to a healthy olive green. In memory of my friend Jean who left us too soon. 22nd Sept 2023 I still miss her.

Someday
May our souls embrace again
Please believe me
Just lay your hand on my heart
Someday
No time to say good-bye
And if we touch our hands
Then the sun will fill the sky
"VENOM" - SITD
Imagine if I was given one moment,
just a single slice of my past.
I could hold it close forever,
and that moment would always last.
I'd put the moment in a safe,
within my hearts abode.
I could open it when I wanted,
and only I would know the code.
I could choose a time of laughing,
a time of happiness and fun.
I could choose a time that tried me,
through everything I've done.
I sat and thought about what moment,
would always make me smile.
One that would always push me,
to walk that extra mile.
If I'm feeling sad and low,
if I'm struggling with what to do.
I can go and open my little safe,
and watch my moment through.
There are moments I can think of,
that would lift my spirits everytime.
The moments when you picked me up,
when the road was hard to climb.
For me to only pick one moment,
to cherish, save and keep,
Is proving really difficult,
as I've gathered up a heap!
I've dug deep inside my heart,
found the safe and looked inside,
there was room for lots of moments,
in fact hundreds if I tried.
I'm building my own little library,
embedded in my heart,
for all the moments spent with you,
before you had to part.
I can open it up whenever I like,
pick a moment and watch it through,
My little library acts as a promise,
I'll never ever forget you
Shinning brightly over the rest. A unique, kind and loving man and one who was like my extra Dad.
Mike, a very long time friend died at the end of June, but for some reason, I didn't get Julie's email telling me. She emailed me about something else and then replied telling me the news, yesterday evening.
A wonderful father to their 3 children and a great Granddad to their 7 grandchildren. Plus a wonderful extra Dad to me.
Julie and Mike are the friends that often came over to visit us either here or where we used to live. They last visited in September 2018.
Will miss you Mike. ♥

The main tall plant is an Cynara is a genus of thistle-like perennial plants in the family Asteraceae. They are native to the Mediterranean region, the Middle East, northwestern Africa, and the Canary Islands. The genus name comes from the Greek kynara, which means "artichoke", I will keep my eye on it, as be nice when it flowers (just hope i haven't missed it flowering )
Elgol - Lawrence Cornell’s spiritual home.
I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear that Lawrence passed away, suddenly and unexpectedly, just a few days ago.
Lawrence was a well respected, engaging and inspirational member of our Flickr community and will be dearly missed by many. Although I never actually met Lawrence in person, I didn’t need to; his charismatic images spoke so well of his narrative, his love of photography and the locations he frequently visited. The banter we had between us, him frequently encouraging me to take ‘proper’ moody landscape images and me encouraging him to look to his more ‘reflective’ side, I valued immensely.
His passion for landscape photography was so evident in his images of Elgol, a location that was so dear to his heart and where his emotions spoke loudest.
I can’t think of a better tribute than an image of his beloved Elgol, with the iconic view looking towards the Cuillin across Loch Scavaig. An image that I took on my last visit to Skye, a location I persevered with having seen Lawrence’s emotive images over so many years.

So long Lawrence, you will be missed. Thoughts and prayers with your family and close friends at this terribly sad time.

After passing away in September I asked for my dear old friends wishing well from her garden. I had a plaque made for it and it now stands in my garden as a keep sake and a personal memorial to her.
Freddie Gilroy and the Belsen Stragglers is a statue by sculptor Ray Lonsdale which overlooks North Bay of Scarborough, England. Made from weathering steel, the sculpture depicts Freddie Gilroy, a former soldier who participated in the liberation of Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, sitting on a bench in his old age. Gilroy was a friend of the sculptor and Lonsdale made the piece partly as a tribute to him, but also as a wider war and Holocaust memorial.
Gilroy, a South Hetton brickmaker and colliery worker, served with the Royal Artillery during the Second World War and became one of the first Allied troops to help liberate Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in April 1945. He died in November 2008
This is my photo for the 52 in 2019 Challenge - #9 - Thoughtful.
In May, Peter's daughter's partner suffered a massive heart attack when competing in an outrigger race. They were devoted to each other and she is still struggling with the loss. I suggested to her mother that I could make a little memory bear for her and she asked if I could make a quilt. I thought for a while what I could do and decided to do this. The grey strips are the sky, the blue stips the sea and the yellow strips the sand.
Our main reason for visiting Normandy, is to take a look at the beaches were the soldiers were fighting for the freedom of Europe in World War 2. There are many beaches, museums and graveyards by the coastline, so we had to make a choice of what to visit.
This little museum of artifacts from the second world war is specifically focussed on the D Day landings.
GLIMPSES OF THE SUMMER PASSED V
► █░▓ ≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈ It is a modest gesture, but a sincere and a strong one. The Municipality plants a noble tree and puts up a plaque in order to commemorate the victims of corona. It's a strange place for something like this - at the very edge of the village, away from major communications. As if at a deliberately remote spot. My timid guess is that this is intentionally done 'low profile style' in order not to rock the boat. The official pressure was fierce in 2020-2021 and no spontaneous initiative was welcome. The then prime minister, now leading the global war machine, made no mistake about it.
But the village of Sleeuwijk is known for its outstanding, active, sincere, mutual community support. So their low profile gesture does not surprise. What is a bit sad, is that the story isn't over, like we thought. After 13 months of recovery it is alive and kicking us in the but (and especially lungs) again. There may be more linden trees necessary to plant in the future.

An imperfect photo for an imperfect man. He learned from his mistakes in Chapter I of his life. Chapter II became his legacy.
I bought this delightful tribute to Queen Elizabeth's Silver Jubilee last year at a sale; delighted to find it. We have grown up with the idea of "the Queen" as someone we looked up to, whom we loved, whom we wanted to emulate. I have memories of playing with friends as a child and it was a fight as to who would be Queen Elizabeth. She has been the only queen we have known.
Rest in Peace, Queen Elizabeth- a queen for the ages

Continuing my summer project at Uni, I gathered images of Liverpool and re-enacted scenes that gave Liverpool purpose, particularly in the Second World War. This scene represents the city as a whole as it was the second most bombed city in the UK after London and is represented by the Battle of Britain Memorial at St Nicks Church on the waterfront. Ironically, the Strand to which it stands has been the scene of several more victory parades over the years.
