A headstone that just stood out for me at Bromtpon. No name, no details - Just the words MOTHER. I found it very personal and just had that moment there of remembrance, thinking, contemplating and appreciating.

In Flanders Fields

by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row,

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved, and were loved, and now we lie

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch, be yours to hold it high.

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields.

If I had one wish to make

I'd use it up on you.

Just to see you one more time

In the heavenly sky so blue

All I have are the memories

The good ones and the bad

The day you finally let it go

And left me more than sad

I wish that you could come back here

And fill back up this hole

You put it there years ago

When your body left your soul

You always made me feel special

You were always there it seems

But after all this is too big

It's only wishful Dreams

I now understand why this little tree, planted in memory of Clare in our front garden, is called hawthorn: the tiny thorns which follow the beautiful deep pink blossom, are surprisingly sharp!

many thanks for all visits, faves and comments

In memory of Christopher, son of our friends Robin & Jean. Christopher suddenly passed away recently at the age of 42. He is leaving such a hole in his family's heart and lives. Ken & I are sending out hugs to them all, sending out energies into the universe, and hoping that our daughter, Jamie, was there to give Christopher a hug and tell him how our families are linked across the miles, and through Flickr. How sorry we are for his passing.

Please, if you can, light a candle for Christopher. He will be missed SO very much.

In memory for those lost and injured in Nice.

I went out this morning to take the flags on the War Memorial for La Fête Nationale, (Bastille Day, or le 14 juillet).

I took them from the front to start with, but was risking it as I had the sun in front of me. So I nipped behind the Memorial and took a look. They actually looked much better. Plus I got lucky and the wind blew them around a bit too.

Much more fun viewed large.

Deine Mutter"

Our wonderful little Chloe passed away tonight. She had diabetes, was blind, and selectively deaf. She has been our companion through some really hard times in our lives. Our hearts are broken and we will miss her forever.

I took this back in July of this year (2019)- you can see she may have been a little spoiled. She was a great traveler, too, and enjoyed many times on the way and at our other home in New Orleans.

This lovely box was on Dinas Dinlle beach, just as you begin to walk down from the car park. Its a lovely memory and a gesture for others to take a ball for their pet to play with on the beach.

for #SmileonSaturday

I took this yesterday completely unaware that there had been a tragedy unfolding in London.

I had thought that it might not be appropriate to post today, on the other hand this cormorant was completely free to go about his day, it's a reminder that we are privileged to go about our daily business (usually) without fear of attack.

As an aside I'd clocked the cormorant last week when on my bike, had gone down later that day with the camera but only ducks to be found. Yesterday however, I was going upstream and he landed on the pictured rock about 50m ahead of me, he stayed long enough for me to get 3 photos. I was amazed at the beauty of the fearthers

In memory of the coral that has died at Australia's Great Barrier Reef.

"Preserving coral reefs is crucial, given we depend on them for everything from food to medical research to protection from damaging coastal storms.

"The research illustrated the gravity of the situation facing the 2,300-kilometer (1,400-mile) Great Barrier Reef. The team found 91 percent of the reef has been bleached at least once during the three bleaching events. Even more alarming, Hughes said, is that a fourth bleaching event is already underway. Corals need years to recover from bleaching, so back-to-back events increase the possibility that the bleached coral will die.

"None of us were expecting the water to be heating up again right now," [coral reef scientist] Baum said. "I think it's beyond what any of us could have imagined. It's our worst nightmare."
