To honor the memory of a phenomenal photographer and friend, Horst Bernhart

aka *hb19. Still missed by many after all this time.

For all the loved ones left behind.

The First World War had a prolific and devastating effect on my family's future, changing our perception, making us (all female) strongly independent forever (without having any choice).

My Grandfather, an officer in WW1, was awarded a Military Cross in 1918 and bravely survived, my mother was 2yrs old at that time, whether he knew about her or not, I don't know.

He never returned to to my Grandmother, leaving a shadowed trail of heartbreak clouded in mystery.

Grandmother died aged 28yrs old, leaving my mother, an orphaned only child, aged 8, with my Great Grandmother to bring her up.

All relatives, except for my Mother, were dead before the Second World War, my mother was 18 and alone, at 39yrs, she gave birth to me.

There have been no marriages and only two people were born in the last hundred years- my mother & I.

Both bohemians, my Great Aunt and Grandmother were published Writers, Poetesses, Artists and into the existential 'Aesthetic' Movement.

On this Memorial Day, I am, especially, remembering my mom & dad. Dad served in World War II &, thankfully, came home. He passed away, 6 years ago, in April. Mom passed away, in October, 2012. Although I miss them, I am forever thankful for the support & care they showed me, each day of their lives, & for the lessons they taught me, by word & deed. In Missouri, their home state, Memorial Day is called "Decoration Day" & is a time for family to get together, to weed the graves of loved ones & decorate the graves with flowers. I will be visiting my folks' graves this coming August, when I fly to Missouri to visit my relatives & remember those who've passed before us. Love you, Mom & Dad!

I photographed these Bleeding Hearts when I attended the Memorial Day parade on May 27, 2013 in Millerton, New York, USA.

While I have been 'on the road' New Zealand has suffered another terrible disaster in the form of the earthquake in Christchurch. The death toll looks like being 220, plus the enormous damage bill.

I visited in 2008 after some 36 years since my first visit to the wonderful 'Shakey Isles'.

Anyone who has visited Christchurch would probably have a photo or two of the iconic Christchurch Cathedral.

It has been severely damaged and the spire has fallen.

This set of 8 shots are posted in memory of the people who have lost their lives in this earthquake and involves people from 20 countries I beleive.

Also in memory of this magnificent building which may or may not be restored.

since we had to put Shyanne down do to poisoning , to this day if my wife See's a golden retriever she tugs on my hand ...
