Oct 2014 - Two A2 life drawings Using ink and a wooden stick to explore mark making within the body.
Inked this on some inexpensive cold press water color paper with india ink. First time inking with a nib. Was nervous at first but it was fun! (Wish I had a better scanner). Ahh, okay, after this dries a bit I'm going to color it in water colors. ^^;;;;;
I usually can't show what I'm currently working because of NDA's and such, so my drawings simply get banished to the IKEA drawer at the end of the project and the shiny, polished final is uploaded.
Maybe I'll try and do some #inkythrowbacks if I can't show what I'm currently working on, like now.
At the Grimm World in Kassel.
Ink was an indispensible material for scholarly work around 1800, second only to paper. And the Grimms used a lot of it. The amount shown here was calculated based on catalogues of their papers: assuming some 20,000 pages of various formats written with steel or goose-quill pens, and a measured average of 0.4 ml of ink per page, a total of 207 litres of ink flowed from their pens. But this is just a rough estimate.

Rustoff from Brazil, pasted in Paris as part of street art without borders.
These were photographs of plants and cactus, I then put ice on the paper and left in the freezer to create these colourful abstract images.Photographs for sale at www.simonmaisiephotography.co.uk/prints

The Bio Ink research explores the concept of living ink that grows freely – a creative symbiosis with other organisms and nature. In the research, biological inks comprised of various microorganisms are created in the bio lab. A drawing robot holding a bio pen/brush in the lab receives the drawings and messages created with a digital pen tablet and draws on the nutrient agar plate in a petri dish. The artworks then are incubated in a controlled environment to allow the living ink to grow.

My inkjet cartridge holds just 6ml of ink. That's just over a teaspoon costing approximately £8*. If I was to buy enough ink to fill a wine bottle it would cost me £1000.
Pictured is a shot glass with 6ml of wine and a single colour cartridge for an HP Photosmart printer.
I pay an estimated £40 for a full set of cartridges and typically they will print approximately 100 pages so that's about 40p per A4 print.
*I am aware of course there are other costs such as packaging involved.
