More inking of pages tonight. I like these panels. I posted the rough pencils earlier last month.

Please ignore what is says about the date taken. I just got a new camera and hadn't put the date in yet. This photo was really taken May 14, 2011

While going through boxes of old photos and reorganizing family albums, my wife handed me one she found of my pony league baseball team - "Basin Surplus." No mascot, just "Basin Surplus," named after the store that supplied the uniforms.

Our coach was Roy Johnson, back row, far left. As a young man he had played with Hoyt Wilhem; and his "Basin Surplus" teams, at that time had won the championship something like 14 of the previous 16 years.

I learned a lot from Roy, as did we all: how to know where the ball will go from the sound it makes off the bat, how to slide into base and which slide to use as determined by where the ball is coming in, how to hit long balls, how to read signs, and all the other things one learns in youth baseball; but most importantly what he taught was how to be a team player. And he taught it without really trying.

I liked Roy, alot. He may have come to practise a few times a bit tipsy, but that made it all the more fun for a kid of 13, or 14, or however old we were at the time.

Drive downtown Kennewick and you'll find the high school teams, and others, playing on "Roy Johnson Field." It's a source of pride for many of us old dogs, still in town.

If you can find me in the sketch, you win an all expense paid trip to the next pony league championship games played here in Kennewick. Of course there is no such league anymore, so Basin Surplus, won't have to foot the bill. Basin Surplus isn't even there anymore.

Nothing stays the same, does it.

No tattoos in my household, so had to have a think. My first thought was ink splots, but thought that might reveal too much of me, so this was my idea.

My goal here was to simulate the effect of shallow depth of field (closer part should look as it's out of focus). I had no actual model, therefore, to simulate this effect, I had to use my knowledge of math and optics - point spread functions, Gaussian spread and so on.

3×3 inch (75×75 mm) ink drawing, stippling technique, using 0.03 and 0.1 Copic Multiliner pens.

I also can tell, that "0.03mm" label does not reflect an actual width of line on regular drawing paper - it's something like 0.2mm on regular paper and 0.1mm on glossy paper and film.

Take care to not let the shirt fold over on itself while peeling away the freezer paper, just in case it's still a little wet.

ink on paper

I only gave it a few minutes to dry, then ran it under the bath tap. A soaking in hot water did nothing, so I put it right under the flow - still nothing, so I scrubbed it around, swirled it in the water, and wiped if face-down against the bottom of the bath.

Nothing. So, I added washing up liquid, and tried again. Nothing. So, then I laid it face up and soaked the sheet in extra thick bleach gel toilet cleaner. Then rinsed it off, and swirled it in hot water again. The paper started to give way, but the Noodler's ink doesn't run.

I did a review of the Noodler's Ink.

We shall call it "Derek Ink", because Dereks don't run. (Obscure Peter Jackson reference.)
