Day #18 - Ink for Dummies
A visit to Wellington isn't complete without a visit to Simon Morse and Alc Headquarters .
I had been reading an article about Nick Servian and his "dummy watching"
Ink cartridges for my fountain pen. There's pink, yellow, red, orange, purple, green and light turquoise. I love fountain pens. The lack of them is one of America's great tragedies.
The text reads "you have permission to play with your art without a plan or deadline" A reminder that I can simply put colour and material on paper and let the medium shape itself rather than over-thinking each stroke and colour choice. Watercolour and ink.

If you take a look at the video you can see the difference between our quick coupling and the push button quick coupling. Both are a ¼ inch shut off coupling. Inside each coupling is dead volume, and as you can see our coupling produces significantly less dead volume than our competitor. Also, our competitor’s coupling even splatters when connecting, something our coupling does not do. Watch our latest video and enjoy!

The triptych is part of my IB visual arts exhibition, in which I explore gender roles in Chinese culture. In ancient China, women had to follow the Three Obediences, which included her father, husband, and son. This central topic not only addresses the power that men held within a patriarchal society (masculinity), but also the lack of influence that women held (considering this rule from a female perspective). To make this project more personal, I have included my experiences with the men around me, drawing references to my father, a boy that I once became infatuated with, and my favorite cousin. I decided to depict the characters using the roles within Beijing Opera, which is an inherently masculine form of art, so deprived of women that men had to uphold the roles of female characters. For this project, I first studied the structure and style of Beijing Opera headdresses, (brainstorm pages 1-2), then conducting an artist study to learn of different styles and applications of ink.
Another "document your failures" image.
Yesterday I just got some EL ink from (http://sites.google.com/site/elen4193/).
I couldn't sleep last night so I designed and burned this attempt at an EL ink clock. It has two rings, the inner ring would be hours and the outer ring would be minutes.
I only have 2x2" to work with, so trying to cram 12 hour bars and 60 minute bars was a challenge. I attempted it and decided it's not going to work and I don't want to waste the expensive ink on it. I need to simplify this design quite a bit. Or come up with another novel way of showing time that is simple.
