Inspired by the fact that today there is a tiger loose in the City of Lights. Perhaps he was tired of the same old boring slab of horsemeat ?

Note: Stillman & Birn creates my go-to sketch books of choice, in particular the Epsilon series is a dream to work on with pen and nib. They had recently launched a 180lb version of this smooth, ink loving paper called Zeta ~ which is incredibly forgiving to wet mediums. I had lamented that it was not yet available in Canada and today I was thrilled to receive a Zeta in the post to experiment on. Thank-you Stillman & Birn for not only the sample but for bringing yet another awesome paper choice to market for creative people!
...this is going to be so much fun!
Every month I challenge myself to create a drawing using only the shades in Goulet Pen Company's Inkdrop Sampler.

Soft-hearted Hana
Music & lyrics by George Harrison 1979
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ate it and at once my eyes could see you
No sooner had I ooped it down
I felt so far off from the ground I stood on.
My legs they seemed to me like high-rise buildings
My head was high up in the sky
My skin the sun began to fry like bacon.
And then somebody old appeared and asked had I come far . . .
And hadn't they just seen me up on Haleakala . . .
I kept on body surfing to pretend I hadn't heard
There was someone there beside me, swimming like Richard III
And I'm still smiling
Seven naked native girls swam seven sacred pools . . .
Lone-ranger smoking doobies said you're breaking all the rules . . .
You'd better get your clothes on or else there'll be a row . . .
If it wasn't for my sunstroke I would take you on right now . . .
And I'm still smiling.
I fell in love with my Soft-Hearted Hana
She entered right in through my heart
And now although we're miles apart
I still feel her.
She lives beneath the crater in the meadow
She moves among the fruit and grain
You can meet her after heavy rain has fallen.

WISH YOU WERE HERE
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wish You Were Here
Music & lyrics by Pink Floyd, Roger Waters & David Gilmour 1975
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
Did they get you to trade
Your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
And cold comfort for change?
Did you exchange
A walk on part in the war,
For a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.
OK. Two more ink drawings before I return to photography.
My father asked me to draw his cars. He has a very pretty '31 Ford Model A roadster deluxe as well as a very workman-like '65 Chevy Corvair convertible.

WISH I WERE BORN IN BEVERLEY HILLS
Music and lyrics by Alice Cooper, Bernie Taupin, Dick Wagner 1978
------------------------------------------------------------------
She looked so sleek and sassy
Rolling down Rodeo Drive
She got her daddy's black Corniche
And her tennis pro by her side
And she wants her mother's lover
To exercise her skill
And if she don't score him fast
She knows that her brother will
Oh I wish I were born in Beverly Hills
I swear I couldn't drink half as much as she spills
I want to live it up get my kicks and thrills
Be a gigolo lover and send her the bills
She says that she's an actress
Just never got a part
Now she's a teenage mess
With a burned out Gucci heart
She cracked one day at Cartier
When things came to a head
They put her trinkets away
And wrapped her up instead
Oh I wish I were born in Beverly Hills
I swear I couldn't drink half as much as she spills
I want to live it up get my kicks and thrills
Be a gigolo lover and send her the bills
She bit like a dog and she screamed like hell
"You ain't taking me to no padded cell
You better take all your hands off my high priced tail"
Oh I wish I were born in Beverly Hills
I swear I couldn't drink half as much as she spills
I want to live it up get my kicks and thrills
Be a gigolo lover and send her the bil
Rutherford B. Winston Hugh scoured every Sunday ad he could get his chubby nubs on to find the greatest deals and steals around the neighborhood. He would happily lick every stamp posted to every rebate check request on every Monday after his new pointless treasures were picked up the day before. He'd be a millionaire by seventy-three living the high life with a gold digging twenty something year old (a seven at best) and ditching his old wife (a former ten and current eight).
