another close to the deadline posting, 1125pm. i spent hours going through my various photo locations to find the photograph of a Triumph ROCKET that i demo rode in 2012 at the Americade motorcycle event.
i think it is a 2011 model. the Triumph ROCKET has the largest displacement engine of all regular(non-customized) motorcycles that are built...it is 2450cc. that motor is larger than a toyota corolla motor.
funny thing about it is at 800 plus lbs, once it got going it was easy to ride. but i took nothing for granted because the thing is a ROCKET for real!
drawn with my trusty fabercastell ecco pigment .1, on back of an envelope. no pencil sketch under this one, just straight to the inkliner.
I had to draw this building after seeing pictures of it before the bike tour. I walked around the building trying to get the right angle to get the sun and shadows right.
After the fifth attempt, I managed to finish this sketch after stopping because of the rain. I wanted to get this new view of the city after the demolition of Peek & Cloppenburg and before the new building hides it again.

In older neighbourhoods of Gatineau, you can see some residences known as matchstick houses (maisons de bois allumette). These are wooden houses built around 1900 to roughly the 1920s mostly by people who worked at the lumber and match-making industries nearby. (The term 'Alumette' comes from French word for matchsticks.) Typically these houses had steeply pitched roofs and narrow simple facades. Over the years, these houses have disappeared due to urban renewal, fires and economic decline. There's some movement afoot to preserve the remaining neighbourhoods of matchstick houses. This ink drawing was made from a photo that I took at my daughter's house which is in one of those neighbourhoods. The snowfall that I illustrated gives the scene an atmosphere that's unique for this time of year.

Dans les vieux quartiers de Gatineau, on peut encore voir des maisons de bois allumette. Ces maisons, construites entre 1900 et les années 1920 environ, appartenaient principalement aux personnes travaillaient dans les industries du bois et de la fabrication d'allumettes des environs. Ces maisons se caractérisaient généralement par des toits à forte pente et des façades étroites et simples. Au fil des ans, elles ont disparu en raison de la rénovation urbaine, des incendies et du déclin économique. Un mouvement se développe aujourd'hui pour préserver les quartiers de maisons de bois allumette. Ce dessin à l'encre est inspiré d'une photo prise chez ma fille, dans l'un de ces quartiers. La neige que j'ai représentée confère à la scène une atmosphère unique pour cette saison.

This is a sketch of the Charron House (aka Maison des auteurs) in the Jacques Cartier Park in Gatineau. I've sketched it before from a different angle but was attracted to do it again while I was cycling past it this week. The house is one of the oldest in the region, having been built between 1826 and 1841. What caught my fancy was the sort of courtyard next to the bike path with a tree in the centre surrounded by the heritage house and floral gardens. The view onto the Ottawa River is excellent. As you can see in the photos below, I used my bike as a easel with my Moleskine sketchbook on the seat. A great way to spend a few moments.
Voici un croquis de la maison Charron (aka la maison des auteurs) dans le parc Jacques-Cartier à Gatineau. Je l'avais déjà esquissé sous un angle différent, mais j'avais envie de le refaire alors que je passais devant en faisant du vélo cette semaine. La maison est l'une des plus anciennes de la région. Elle a été construite entre 1826 et 1841. Ce qui m'intéressait le plus était une sorte de cour à côté de la piste cyclable avec un arbre au centre, entouré par la maison du patrimoine et des jardins floraux. La vue sur la rivière des Outaouais est excellente. Comme vous pouvez le voir sur les photos ci-dessous, j'ai utilisé mon vélo comme chevalet avec mon carnet de croquis Moleskine sur le siège.Une excellente façon de passer quelques minutes.
