Watercolor and ink on Watercolor Book Hahnemühle double page A4.

2 year old Aiora's ink brushes danced around the paper as she expressed her ideas about "Mr Darkness" from the book 'Darkness Slipped In'. Then she began to dot black marks on the page with both brush and sponge. "Darkness is throwing the ball" she told us.

A passing local said I was drawing this before God comes.

Answers on a postcard …

I was resting on the entrance gate and kept having to move to let the National Trust staff go to work.

Spring has arrived when Ludwigsplatz is full.

Drawn to the sound of kids playing, ferries chugging and seabirds squawking.

The locals were always coming up to ask what I’m doing and where I’m from. One gave me an orange after a chat.

I originally went to the factory shop of Wergona Chocolate to buy large amounts of cheap chocolate. But the shop was shut so to make my trip worthwhile, I drew this factory over the road.

I originally wanted to sketch more of the cars which were dominating the village, but my wife was waiting for me and started fidgiting. While I was drawing this, a woman came up to comment on the sketch and ask where I lived. When I said “Germany”, she said why am I in the Lake District when Germany is so beautiful.

It was a huge, grand restaurant bar, not a cosy cafe!

The sky realy was the same colour as the tarmac, there was torrential rain.

I surprised the mule train rider as he rode past on the narrow rock cut path. He said "Sir, don't move".

It was very hot but I could draw in the shade of the planes.

I liked the angled shadows but they disappeared very quickly.

The small snowfalls that we've been receiving lately have all accumulated into a nice blanket of snow over the landscape and the thermometer has registered lower than normal for this time of year. Winter has definitely arrived. So last week when I had another occasion to do some plein air sketching, I did it from the comfort of my car. I parked in a neighbourhood of Vanier where I used to live and sketched the Cummings Bridge and North River Road in the foreground. It was a pleasant day and I enjoyed returning to my old neighbourhood. When I returned home, I drew over my rough pencil sketch with ink pens using two different toned inks - one black and another grey. By using the grey in the background, I was hoping to create a sense of depth.

Ink drawing in a Leuchtturm1917 sketchbook using Sakura Micron and Gellyroll Moonlight pens, 20 x 14 cm (8 x 5.5 inches).

Technical note: The Sakura Gellyroll Moonlight pens are impressive. Not only do they offer a variety of grey tones but they are opaque which allows you to draw over black lines! The Gellyroll Moonlight series of pens also come in different colours, some with a metalic finish.
