This was located near a rock quarry so all the vegetation and everything had a fine dust all over it. It's almost like a real life infared look - but it wasn't captured very well in this shot.
This was after the brief snow we got Sunday night into Monday Morning...Like on Feburary 5th the all of the branches were covered making for a winter (spring) wonderland....Looks like a Infared image...
After a few stressful weeks, it was nice to enjoy a warm day along the trails at York River State Park.

My lust for a D300 has left me incredibly dissatisified with my D70.
////A few technical notes////
I've been asked in the past about what gear and techniques I use. Nothing fancy, just a D70, the kit lens and a Hoya R72.
In this shot, the clouds had passed right in front of the sun as I set up. Being that it was lunchtime I had about 10 minutes to shoot. When the sun poked out of the clouds I made a custom white balance setting to the grass. When it poked out again I took a few shots (tripod, timer).
In post I did Auto Levels in Photoshop, then inverted the blue/red channels using a Channels adjustment layer. Then I desaturated the yellowness of the tree area using a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer and mask. Then I created a Channel Mixer adjustment layer set to monochrome, inverted the mask. I painted the clouds a bit to reduce saturation as they had a weird cyan cast. Then, down a few layers, I duplicated the original, applied a gaussian blur, did Image > Apply image and set that duplicate layer to Screen and the layer mode to Overlay, reduced opacity.
That's about it. Hope it doesn't spoil the 'magic' for anyone :P

I spent a week exploring the Kyoto region, but of all the memories I captured, one stood out: a shot of the 'White Heron' Himeji Castle. It wasn't just a photo; it was the definitive highlight of my entire trip.
It was a perfect day for infared. Plenty of front light.
Used a different lens this time. Nikkor 18-200.
Strobist: Two Canon 580EXII, one camera left at 90 degrees to feeder. The other camera right, high at around 90 degrees.
Triggered with Canon infared on high speed sync.

How many pairs do you own? At present bout 100...
What are your favorites and why? I go through phases..at present i cant wear nothing but running shoes. 87's, Structure Triax, Pegasus, even older Nike models like Challengers. Banging colours out at the minute! Infared's or OG max 1's are always a winner! Went through a spell of Jordan's and Force 1's. Got loads of favorites I cant find but thats the fun...want them Escape Force 3's Atmos 87's etcetctetc!!! Used to play tennis in Air Resistance...need another pair of them too!
What's more important sex or trainers? Depends which chick and which trainer! Nah joking...sex everytime!!!!

Whenever I see the Scotch Pine at Martinsell Hill it always struck it seems to be watching the Vale of Pewsey. I wonder what tales this tree could tell.
I have been to Covington, Virginia several times, but I always pass by the Humpback Covered Bridge without stopping. This time I made it a day trip to visit the area, and made sure to visit the bridge. I had to get into calf deep cold mountain water, but it was worth it to have a more balanced composition.

We took a road trip to the Biltmore in Asheville, NC and I got a chance to shoot the sculpted grounds with the D70s I had converted to infared. I left some color in a few of them, just for fun, though most I converted with Nik's Silver Efex Pro.

720nm infrared
Used a Fringer NF-FX adapter to fit a Nikkor 35mm to the Fuji X-T2. Not ideal, the focus was poor, manual focus worked.

Black and white images do not seem to be so popular on Flickr, in part I suppose because the tiny thumbnails do not get much attention without the help of color, and in part because black and white is just not that popular compared with color images. I'm still pretty fond of black and white, though, especially when it involves the somewhat surreal quality provided by an infrared capture.
From time to time I will set out with the D70s I had converted to infrared and see what I can find. It is something of a challenge to shoot with black and white in mind, because you have to visualize the scene knowing what it will look like after the conversion while actually seeing it in color. When shooting infrared, there is the additional shift in how to visualize the scene, since grass, leaves and other green foliage will reflect more infrared light, making them lighter or even white. I love the effect, and overcast days without direct sunshine make it possible to make a capture without the foliage being blown out. Infrared also does a good job of capturing the drama in the sky when there is some.
This shot is along a tracks near our home, but it looks like it might be going somewhere special.
