Taken on Rt 91 in South West Virginia. This was taken using a camera that only shoots black and white. An infrared filter was used which can only record infrared waves, which are invisible to our eyes

A Southern Rata Tree in flower. Shot on 70mm Agfa Aviphot Pan 200 (Expired 2012) with an R72 Infared filter. Devaloped in Xtol stock 9min at 20°C. Metered for iso 3 to compensate for the filter.

I'd like to share an infrared photo of a traditional japanese garden in Shinjuku Tokyo. Taken with IR modified EOS-M & TSE 24mm f/3.5 II lens; tilted for a bit more DOF on this long 30 second exposure.

Black and white images do not seem to be so popular on Flickr, in part I suppose because the tiny thumbnails do not get much attention without the help of color, and in part because black and white is just not that popular compared with color images. I'm still pretty fond of black and white, though, especially when it involves the somewhat surreal quality provided by an infrared capture.
From time to time I will set out with the D70s I had converted to infrared and see what I can find. It is something of a challenge to shoot with black and white in mind, because you have to visualize the scene knowing what it will look like after the conversion while actually seeing it in color. When shooting infrared, there is the additional shift in how to visualize the scene, since grass, leaves and other green foliage will reflect more infrared light, making them lighter or even white. I love the effect, and overcast days without direct sunshine make it possible to make a capture without the foliage being blown out. Infrared also does a good job of capturing the drama in the sky when there is some.
This little pond is on private property along a country road not far from our house. There has been a lot of rain recently so it was pretty full and the overcast day allowed the trees to reflect among the foliage floating on the water. The flock of ducks that often frequent the place were huddled off by the barn, refusing to model for me, but the infrared capture makes for a surreal enough scene even without them.
Toyo monorail, schneider 210mm/370mm at 370mm, 4 seconds at f45, Adox cms20 stand developed in perceptol 1-10 60 mins. Took this last year . Hoped to visit this spot loaded with infared film this summer but have failed to do ......so far !

This shot is along a tracks near our home, but it looks like it might be going somewhere special.
