Goodrich Castle, Gloucestershire
Goodrich Castle is a now ruinous Norman medieval castle north of the village of Goodrich in Herefordshire, England, controlling a key location between Monmouth and Ross-on-Wye. It was praised by William Wordsworth as the "noblest ruin in Herefordshire" and is considered by historian Adrian Pettifer to be the "most splendid in the county, and one of the best examples of English military architecture".
Goodrich Castle was probably built by Godric of Mappestone after the Norman invasion of England, initially as an earth and wooden fortification. In the middle of the 12th century the original castle was replaced with a stone keep, and was then expanded significantly during the late 13th century into a concentric structure combining luxurious living quarters with extensive defences. The success of Goodrich's design influenced many other constructions across England over the following years. It became the seat of the powerful Talbot family before falling out of favour as a residence in late Tudor times.
Held first by Parliamentary and then Royalist forces in the English Civil War of the 1640s, Goodrich was finally successfully besieged by Colonel John Birch in 1646 with the help of the huge "Roaring Meg" mortar, resulting in the subsequent slighting of the castle and its descent into ruin. At the end of the 18th century, however, Goodrich became a noted picturesque ruin and the subject of many paintings and poems; events at the castle provided the inspiration for Wordsworth's famous 1798 poem "We are Seven".

NGC 3132 (also known as the Eight-Burst Nebula or the Southern Ring Nebula), is a bright planetary nebula in the constellation Vela. Its distance from Earth is estimated at about 2,000 light-years
The Southern Ring Nebula was selected as one of the five cosmic objects observed by the James Webb Space Telescope as part of the release of its first official science images on July 12, 2022. I created this image from near-infrared (NIRcam) data from the James Web Space Telescope (JWST). The following NIRcam filers were used in this image; F470N RED, F444W Orange, F435M Yellow, F212N Green, F187N Cyan, F090W Blue. Credit NASA, ESA, CSA, STScI, Webb ERO Production Team. Software I used for data processing- Pixinsight 1.8 9-1, and Photoshop 24.7

Inspired by the absolutely amazing Jeanne; I thought I would try my hand with infared photography; now mine was done through Photoshop, unlike hers, so it's lacking a bit of that authentic flare, but still it was a lot of fun to play around with this style.
I'm going to have to experiment a lot more with this style in the future, the way my inspiration goes about this is absolutely stunning and amazes me.
Anyway, hope everyone has had a good Monday.

Mission San José is now part of the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park. In 2015, along with The Alamo and Mission Concepción, it became one of five missions in San Antonio designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. One of things I really wanted to do while I was in Texas was to visit the San Antonio missions. There are 5 missions: Mission San Antonio de Valero (The Alamo), Mission Concepción, Mission San José, Mission San Juan, Mission Espada. I shot this in infrared, which worked well on the bright sunny day when was there.

This is another Spring shot, though it might not look like it. This is an infrared shot, made with my old D70s I had converted to infrared. I took it some years ago at the University of Tennessee Arboretum, and thought I’d share.
A recent article in Outdoor Photographer by and about Gary Wagner interested me enough to buy his book. I like his philosophy and approach to black and white photography, and I’ve found it to be inspiring. He is very clear that his intent is to create art that is consistent with his vision, his interpretation of the scene. He focuses on the emotional and visual intent more than realistic representation. That appeals to me, and I have been looking at some of my older color work, seeing what I think might translate well to monochrome and processing those images. I’ll be posting quite a few in the future, but I’ll try to get some color images out there also.
I know black and white photography is not quite as popular on Flickr, but if you have taken the time to read this, chances are you like black and white. I usually do not ask for criticism, but if you are inclined, I would like to hear what you think I could do better with monochrome processing. I’m okay with what you think works, but I’m especially interested in what you think does not. I appreciate your time and input.
