A lone tree on top of Roundway Hill the scene of large battle in the first English Civil war won by the Royalist's back in 1643.
I created this image from near-infrared (NIRcam) data from the James Web Space Telescope (JWST). The following NIRcam filters were used in this image; F444W RED, F470N Orange, F435M Green, F200W Yellow, F187N Cyan, F090W Blue. Credit NASA, ESA, CSA, STScI, Webb ERO Production Team. Software I used for data processing- Pixinsight 1.8 9-1, and Photoshop 24.6.
My early attempts with IR colour channel swapping.
Oker is a small rural village, tucked away behind its own little hilltop, hiding from Matlock and the busy valley below.
Oker Hill is thought to be the site of an ancient untrenched hill fort or hill station built by the Romans Legions. They had ousted the Britons who previously lived there and worked the local lead mines. The hill was given the Latin title of Occursus or hill of conflict. Oker is obviously the shortened form or corruption of this name. It is also referred to sometimes as Oaker Hill.
From the trig point at 643 feet there are far reaching views which encompass three hundred and sixty degrees.
The summit of Oker Hill is topped with a lone sycamore tree planted a couple of hundred years ago by Will Shore as one of a pair to commemorate the parting of two brothers who decided to go their separate ways in life, one to seek his fortune aboard, the other to stay locally. Wordsworth was so moved by this romantic gesture that he wrote the following sonnet:
"Tis said that to the brow of yon fair hill
Two brother clomb; and turning face from face
Nor one look more exchanging, grief to still
Or feed, each planted on that lofty place
A chosen tree. Then eager to fulfil
Their courses, like two new-born rivers, they
In opposite directions urged their way
Down from the far-seen mount. No blast might kill
Or blight that fond memorial. The trees grew
And now entwine, their arms' but ne'er again
Embraced those brothers upon earth's wide plain,
Nor aught of mutual joy or sorrow knew
Until their spirits mingled in the sea
That to itself takes all - Eternity"
One sycamore tree fell in the late 19th century and a replacement was planted in honour of King Edward VII's coronation, but this has also now disappeared.

I think its really hard to get some interesting or new perspective on very famous locations.
This is my attempt at capturing Knowth, one of many megalithic burial sites in Ireland on Sept. 21 2008, with an Olympus SP570 super zoom bridge.
Unlike Newgrange which is a single enormous mound, this site has one larger passage tomb mound and 18 smaller mounds and burials around it.
Dating to around 3200BCE makes them some of the oldest man made structures on earth.
Another thing that makes Knowth different from Newgrange is it has a double passageway one leading from the east and one from the west. Only the eastern one leads to the chamber. But the west one ends close enough to hear someone on the other side of the wall. How intriguing.
We went super early in the morning, there were not tons of people the dew was still on the ground and the sun was low, creating great shadows and that emerald green you always hear about. It added lots of extra mystery as we made our way around the curves or the mounds.
Edited in Photoshop and Viveza and Alien Skin Exposure 7. I did lots of PS adjustment before taking it into Viveza for fine tuning then a couple of different layers with adjustments to presets then some layering and masking to complete the image.

I placed my Nikon D5000 on a monopod and aimed it down. I used the infared release to trip the shutter.

Shot with a D70 converted to infared by Lifepixel. Then a little photoshop processing in the channel mixers, reversing the blue and red channel levels, adding a little of the green channel into the mix to come up with a color combination that works.

These stairs belong to a second-floor apartment in a building called M-Trac. M-Trac is a redevelopment of an old warehouse that was once along the rail yards in downtown Edmonton.
Armchair Glacier and the ribbed volcanic crater rim of Mount Weart (2870 m, 9400 ft), Whistler-Blackolm, Coast Mountains, British Columbia, Canada. Infrared filter applied in postproduction.
Access to the glacier and crater rim in the summer involves a steep, strenuous, often challenging 7 km (4.3 miles) hike - first through a dense subalpine rainforest of old-growth red and yellow cedars and Douglas firs, then a scramble across several volcanic rock slides and boulder fields, ultimately arriving at a pristine turquoise crater lake at the foot of the glacier.
