Sfax is a major port city in Tunisia, located 270 km (170 mi) southeast of Tunis. The city, founded in AD 849 on the ruins of Taparura. Sfax has a population of 341,999. Its main industries include phosphate, olive and nut processing, fishing (it is the largest fishing port in Tunisia) and international trade.

Saskatchewan isn't all flat prairie. Our family property includes a large valley area where our Arabian Horses graze and we enjoy walking.
This may look like HDR, but it isn't. I did this by using the magnetic lasso on the sky, running autolevels, then inverse selection and run auto levels again. Also used selective color to remove all the magenta autolevels thought should be in the sky....duh. You can still see traces in the top left.
It looks much more like the real thing than the camera was able to figure out as it basically blows it own brains out trying to find the median exposure level between sky and valley.

The people of Venice have been engaged in, and have excelled at, numerous industries over the centuries, including commerce, printing, the fine arts, manufacturing and organizing pilgrimages to the Holy Land. Today, some of the industries that remain include: shipbuilding, trade, Murano glass production and Burano lace production.
However, tourism is by far the number one industry, and Venice is one of the most-visited tourist destinations on the planet. Specifically, it ranks 29 among world tourism cities and sees around 18 million visitors every year. The main draws are its beautiful architecture, numerous art collections and important historical landmarks. The canals and romantic gondolas, however, are probably the top reason 50,000 tourists visit Venice on a daily basis.
I include this photo as an example of the first time that I attempted multiple exposure focus stacking. This is 5 photographs combined with focus from near to infinity. Not the greatest composition in the world but it certainly gives great clarity and focus to an image!

Every time we hold someone's hands means something. For this one, I'm trying to convey FRIENDSHIP. A beginning of a journey that no one knows what will happen...but promised to be there for each other "hoping for the best".
This is actually a "selfie" of my right hand (the one with my signature on) and my friend's hands. This was taken in Singapore, the day the sister of my friend arrived at the Singapore Airport for vacation.
This piece is a part of my Vanity project which shows and/or includes my hand/s as my rendition of a self portrait because I choose to show who I really am through every lines of my hands.

In the notes I’ve provided for these “peeps in the ‘hood” and “street where I live” Flickr albums, I usually write that I don’t include photos of drunks, bums, or homeless people. But since this photo is an exception to that self-imposed policy, I thought it would be a good idea to see how often it has happened; and by searching for “homeless” as a tag attached to my photos, I found that there are just under 50 in my overall Flickr archives of roughly 50,000 photos. Only about 7,000 of those photos are “public,” so you probably won’t even see a lot of the homeless people that I’ve photographed; but I hope that the ones you do see show a respectful and fairly sympathetic perspective.
Of course, not everyone does feel respectful or sympathetic toward the homeless people they see on the street; and that is just as much true here in New York City as it is in other cities across the country and around the world. New Yorkers are constantly being pushed, shoved, bothered, accosted, and harassed for money; and many of us have grown rather cynical about the presence of beggars, panhandlers, and other forms of homeless people. Indeed, just yesterday there was an article in our New York Post newspaper about a 43 year old former theater stagehand who says that he “rakes in up to $200 an hour” from kind-hearted New Yorkers by panhandling outside Grand Central Terminal (see “ New York City panhandler says he makes $200 an hour").
Obviously, I don’t know how common this situation really is. And I don’t know how many people are begging for money simply to buy more alcohol, drugs, or whatever pushed them onto the streets in the first place. I certainly have had the experience of seeing the same person in the same spot, day after day, always asking for a quarter or a dollar to buy some food. And I have had the experience — as have many well-intentioned people — of offering to bring an allegedly hungry person into a deli or MacDonald’s to buy him/her some food that can be eaten on the spot, only to have the offer scornful rejected. And I have to admit that I, too, have experienced the knee-jerk reaction that the homeless people on the street should just “get a job” and “work for a living,” in order to function in society the way most of my friends and I have done throughout our lives.
But I’ve been around for a long time now, and I’ve lived in this city for a long time; and while I may have only 50 photos of homeless people in my Flickr archives, I’ve seen several hundred more, if not several thousand. And while some may be phonies or scam artists, it seems to me that many of these people are overwhelmed and broken by the circumstances in which they find themselves. It may have been drugs or alcohol that pushed them over the edge; but it may also have been mental illness (or PTSD), or a physical injury, or an abusive spouse, or a string of bad luck that they didn’t anticipate, and simply couldn’t handle. I’ve also seen enough TV documentaries to appreciate that, in most cases, people don’t “flip” overnight from productive members of society, to people on the street. For most, it’s a long, slow, gradual descent into a world that they never imagined would happen to them. For others, I suppose, it may be a continuation of a life that was miserable even when they were children.
I don’t have the time, or the psychological energy, to stop and talk to every one of these people I see on the street. And if they were truly gifted con artists, I’m sure they could convince me that they were a victim of unfortunate circumstances, no matter how cynical a New Yorker I might be. Anyway, I only have a second or two to make a snap judgment as I walk by; and sometimes I decide to give them a dollar, or a pocket full of coins, while other times I shrug and just keep walking.
But I’m also a strong believer in the old adage that “what goes around, comes around”; and even though I think of myself as strong, tough, resilient, and resolute … I also realize, after seeing so many broken people on the street, that it could happen to me, too. Years ago, I stumbled across a book by Catherine Ryan Hyde called Pay It Forward, and while I don’t practice it as much as I should, the principle has stuck with me.
So, every time I see someone like this man on the street, I say to myself: pay it forward. Make someone’s like a little better today. Repeat.

Sometime in 2014, I created Flickr album for photos that I had started taking with my iPhone5s; and a year later, in the fall of 2014, I started a new Flickr album for photos that I’ve begun taking with my iPhone6, and iPhone6+. But progress doesn’t stop (at least with Apple): as of October 2015, I’ve upgraded once again, to the iPhone6s and 6s+ (yes, both of them) and this new album contains photos created with those camera-phones
In last year’s Flickr album, I wrote, “Whether you’re an amateur or professional photographer, it’s hard to walk around with a modern smartphone in your pocket, and not be tempted to use the built-in camera from time-to-time. Veteran photographers typically sneer at such behavior, and most will tell you that they can instantly recognize an iPhone photo, which they mentally reject as being unworthy of any serious attention.
“After using many earlier models of smartphones over the past several years, I was inclined to agree; after all, I always (well, almost always) had a “real” camera in my pocket (or backpack or camera-bag), and it was always capable of taking a much better photographic image than the mediocre, grainy images shot with a camera-phone.
“But still … there were a few occasions when I desperately wanted to capture some photo-worthy event taking place right in front of me, and inevitably it turned out to be the times when I did not have the “real” camera with me. Or I did have it, but it was buried somewhere in a bag, and I knew that the “event” would have disappeared by the time I found the “real" camera and turned it on. By contrast, the smart-phone was always in my pocket (along with my keys and my wallet, it’s one of the three things I consciously grab every time I walk out the door). And I often found that I could turn it on, point it at the photographic scene, and take the picture much faster than I could do the same thing with a “traditional” camera.
“Meanwhile, smartphone cameras have gotten substantially better in the past few years, from a mechanical/hardware perspective; and the software “intelligence” controlling the camera has become amazingly sophisticated. It’s still not on the same level as a “professional” DSLR camera, but for a large majority of the “average” photographic situations we’re likely to encounter in the unplanned moments of our lives, it’s more and more likely to be “good enough.” The old adage of “the best camera is the one you have with you” is more and more relevant these days. For me, 90% of the success in taking a good photo is simply being in the right place at the right time, being aware that the “photo opportunity” is there, and having a camera — any camera — to take advantage of that opportunity. Only 10% of the time does it matter which camera I’m using, or what technical features I’ve managed to use.
“And now, with the recent advent of the iPhone5s, there is one more improvement — which, as far as I can tell, simply does not exist in any of the “professional” cameras. You can take an unlimited number of “burst-mode” shots with the new iPhone, simply by keeping your finger on the shutter button; instead of being limited to just six (as a few of the DSLR cameras currently offer), you can take 10, 20, or even a hundred shots. And then — almost magically — the iPhone will show you which one or two of the large burst of photos was optimally sharp and clear. With a couple of clicks, you can then delete everything else, and retain only the very best one or two from the entire burst.
“With that in mind, I’ve begun using my iPhone5s for more and more “everyday” photo situations out on the street. Since I’m typically photographing ordinary, mundane events, even the one or two “optimal” shots that the camera-phone retains might not be worth showing anyone else … so there is still a lot of pruning and editing to be done, and I’m lucky if 10% of those “optimal” shots are good enough to justify uploading to Flickr and sharing with the rest of the world. Still, it’s an enormous benefit to know that my editing work can begin with photos that are more-or-less “technically” adequate, and that I don’t have to waste even a second reviewing dozens of technically-mediocre shots that are fuzzy, or blurred.
“Oh, yeah, one other minor benefit of the iPhone5s (and presumably most other current brands of smartphone): it automatically geotags every photo and video, without any special effort on the photographer’s part. Only one of my other big, fat cameras (the Sony Alpha SLT A65) has that feature, and I’ve noticed that almost none of the “new” mirrorless cameras have got a built-in GPS thingy that will perform the geotagging...
“I’ve had my iPhone5s for a couple of months now, but I’ve only been using the “burst-mode” photography feature aggressively for the past couple of weeks. As a result, the initial batch of photos that I’m uploading are all taken in the greater-NYC area. But as time goes on, and as my normal travel routine takes me to other parts of the world, I hope to add more and more “everyday” scenes in cities that I might not have the opportunity to photograph in a “serious” way.”

Okay, so now it’s October of 2015, and I’ve got the iPhone 6s/6s+. The the camera now has a 12-megapixel lens (instead of the older 8 MP version), and that the internal camera-related hardware/firmware/software is better, too. Obviously, I’ve got the newer iOS9, too, and even on the “old” phones, it now supports time-lapse videos along with everything else.
I’ve still got my pocket camera (an amazing little Sony RX-100 Mark IV, which replaces the Mark III I had last year), and two larger cameras (Sony RX-10 II, and Sony A7 II), but I have a feeling that I won’t even be taking them out of the camera bag when I’m out on the street for ordinary day-to-day walking around.
That will depend, obviously, on what kind of photos and videos the iPhone6s/6s+ camera actually capable of taking … so I’m going to try to use at leas one of them every day, and see what the results look like …

Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge, Texas
At its current state, the FWNC&R covers 3,621 acres and includes over 20 miles of hiking trails, making the park one of the largest city-owned nature centers in the United States. The Hutchinson House is a historic home completed in 1908 in Tampa, Florida, United States. It is a three-story brick building in the Second Empire architecture. The building includes a high mansard roof and large porch with tall Corinthian columns.
It was built by Currie J. Hutchinson, a local merchant, and is one of the few structures of its style in Florida. It was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on November 1, 1977, and is located at 304 Plant Avenue.
History
The Hutchinson House was built by Mr. Currie Hutchinson. Construction began in 1906 and the building was finished in 1908. Most of the building materials were shipped from Hutchinson's home state of Ohio. The masonry technique was rather unusual and allowed for a very tight mortar line in between the red bricks.
The exterior walls are approximately 18 inches thick of solid brick. The building even has a basement, which has remained dry for over 100 years, despite being situated less than 1/8 of a mile from the Tampa Bay. There are 5 working fireplaces, 3 on the first floor, two on the second floor and a stove in the basement. The total construction cost was reported to be approximately six thousand five hundred dollars. A small fortune back then.
The Hutchinson Mansion was occupied by the Hutchinson family while Mr. Hutchinson operated his pharmacy on Franklin Street in downtown Tampa.
It was next used as a hospital from approximately 1932 to 1946. Hutchinson House was then used as a rooming house until 1958 when it became the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. It remained a fraternity house until 1977 the University of Tampa kicked all the fraternities off the campus and the Hutchinson house was left empty (and in very rough shape).
The University of Tampa sold the mansion to the City of Tampa. The City of Tampa sold the Hutchinson House to the Tampa Preservation Society, which commenced a major restoration of the building which continued for approximately two years.
In 1980, attorney William B. Plowman began negotiations with the Tampa Preservation Society to purchase the Hutchinson House. He purchased the building in 1981, and continued the restoration including improvements to the first, second and third floors, most notably restoring access to the third floor without interfering with the interior flow of the house. All historical aspects were strictly adhered to during all the restorations.
In 1989, Matt Powell rented space from Mr. Plowman. Matt loved the building so much that he was able to persuade Mr. Plowman to transfer the duties of the Hutchinson House to him in 1999. Matt Powell purchased the historical building and has continued to preserve, restore and maintain this magnificent building.
Architecture
One of the most interesting things about the Historical Hutchinson house is the architecture style. It is of the "Second Empire" style, which is reflected in the third Floor exterior walls. The third floor is contained inside the mansard roof. The mansard roof is made of slate. Each slate shingle was cut by hand, and has lasted over a century. The Hutchinson house has been through 100 years of hurricanes, heat and cold, and still remains in excellent condition.
Second Empire is an architectural style popular during the Victorian era, reaching its zenith between 1865 and 1880, and so named for the "French" elements in vogue during the era of the Second French Empire. The canonical example of Second Empire style is the Opera Garnier (formerly known as the "Paris Opera") in Paris. In the United States, the Second Empire style usually includes a steep, mansard roof; the roof being the most noteworthy link to the style's French roots. This tower element could be of equal height of the top most floor. As was done with the Hutchinson House. The mansard roof crest was often topped with an iron trim, sometimes referred to as "cresting".
The Hutchinson Mansion also prominently displays 3 separate chimneys extending 10 feet above the roof top. These chimneys service the 5 fireplaces, and stove.
In 2007, a replica of the original gas lantern was restored to the front yard. And the Hutchinson House Stone, seen above, was used as a stepping stone to make it easier to sit upon your horse.
Landmark status
The Hutchinson House has been a historical landmark building since 1977, when the United States Department of the Interior decided that due to the architecture, age, and condition of the building that it should be preserved as a historical landmark.

Mormon Row Historic District - Mormon Row is a line of homestead complexes along the Jackson-Moran Road near the southeast corner of Grand Teton National Park, in the valley called Jackson Hole. The rural historic landscape's period of significance includes the construction of the Andy Chambers, T.A. Moulton and John Moulton farms from 1908 to the 1950s. Six building clusters and a separate ruin illustrate Mormon settlement in the area and comprise such features as drainage systems, barns, fields and corrals. Apart from John and T.A. Moulton, other settlers in the area were Joseph Eggleston, Albert Gunther, Henry May, Thomas Murphy and George Riniker. The area is also known as Antelope Flats, situated between the towns of Moose and Kelly. It is a popular destination for tourists and photographers on account of the historic buildings, the herds of bison, and the spectacular Teton Range rising in the background. The alluvial soil to the east of Blacktail Butte was more suitable than most locations in Jackson Hole for farming, somewhat hampered by a lack of readily available water. The Mormon homesteaders began to arrive in the 1890s from Idaho, creating a community called "Gros Ventre", with a total of 27 homesteads. The Mormon settlers tended to create clustered communities, in contrast to the isolated homesteads more typical of Jackson Hole. Grand Teton National Park is a United States National Park in northwestern Wyoming. At approximately 310,000 acres (480 sq mi; 130,000 ha; 1,300 km2), the park includes the major peaks of the 40-mile-long (64 km) Teton Range as well as most of the northern sections of the valley known as Jackson Hole. It is only 10 miles (16 km) south of Yellowstone National Park, to which it is connected by the National Park Service-managed John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway. Along with surrounding National Forests, these three protected areas constitute the almost 18,000,000-acre (7,300,000 ha) Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, one of the largest intact mid-latitude temperate ecosystems in the world. Human history of the Grand Teton region dates back at least 11,000 years, when the first nomadic hunter-gatherer Paleo-Indians began migrating into the region during warmer months pursuing food and supplies. In the early 19th century, the first White explorers encountered the eastern Shoshone natives. Between 1810 and 1840, the region attracted fur trading companies that vied for control of the lucrative beaver pelt trade. U.S. Government expeditions to the region commenced in the mid-19th century as an offshoot of exploration in Yellowstone, with the first permanent white settlers in Jackson Hole arriving in the 1880s. Efforts to preserve the region as a national park commenced in the late 19th century, and in 1929 Grand Teton National Park was established, protecting the major peaks of the Teton Range. The valley of Jackson Hole remained in private ownership until the 1930s, when conservationists led by John D. Rockefeller, Jr. began purchasing land in Jackson Hole to be added to the existing national park. Against public opinion and with repeated Congressional efforts to repeal the measures, much of Jackson Hole was set aside for protection as Jackson Hole National Monument in 1943. The monument was abolished in 1950 and most of the monument land was added to Grand Teton National Park. Grand Teton National Park is named for Grand Teton, the tallest mountain in the Teton Range. The naming of the mountains is attributed to early 19th-century French-speaking trappers—les trois tétons (the three teats) was later anglicized and shortened to Tetons. At 13,775 feet (4,199 m), Grand Teton abruptly rises more than 7,000 feet (2,100 m) above Jackson Hole, almost 850 feet (260 m) higher than Mount Owen, the second-highest summit in the range. The park has numerous lakes, including 15-mile-long (24 km) Jackson Lake as well as streams of varying length and the upper main stem of the Snake River. Though in a state of recession, a dozen small glaciers persist at the higher elevations near the highest peaks in the range. Some of the rocks in the park are the oldest found in any U.S. National Park and have been dated at nearly 2.7 billion years. Grand Teton National Park is an almost pristine ecosystem and the same species of flora and fauna that have existed since prehistoric times can still be found there. More than 1,000 species of vascular plants, dozens of species of mammals, 300 species of birds, more than a dozen fish species and a few species of reptiles and amphibians exist. Due to various changes in the ecosystem, some of them human-induced, efforts have been made to provide enhanced protection to some species of native fish and the increasingly threatened whitebark pine. Grand Teton National Park is a popular destination for mountaineering, hiking, fishing and other forms of recreation. There are more than 1,000 drive-in campsites and over 200 miles (320 km) of hiking trails that provide access to backcountry camping areas. Noted for world-renowned trout fishing, the park is one of the few places to catch Snake River fine-spotted cutthroat trout. Grand Teton has several National Park Service-run visitor centers, and privately operated concessions for motels, lodges, gas stations and marinas.

Photographed August 7, 2016 after the Kiwanis Gazebo Concert series in downtown Brighton, which includes a very enjoyable car show. The spectators gather along the shoreline to the left and the performance is in the gazebo off the right side of the photo. This was possibly the prettiest sunset I have seen in several years of visiting these concerts and car shows.

Blue-Crowned Hanging Parrot, Loriculus galgulus, Serindit
Little green parrot found in forested lowlands in southern Burma and many parts of South East Asia. Its diet includes flowers, buds, fruits, nuts, and seeds. Nest in tree cavities. In their natural habitat, they occur singly, in pairs and small family groups outside breeding season. Their green plumage camouflages them well in foliage, and most often, they are seen flying. They may be found foraging in flowering or fruiting trees and bushes. At favoured feeding places, large gatherings can at times be seen - especially towards the evenings when they gather on roosting places in bushes. Even though they are not known to be noisy, their calls are sharp and shrill.

This model’s shaping was inspired by a terrific sketch from Jim Francis, before I started working geometry.
Ever since its grand opening City Center has become the centerpiece of downtown West Palm Beach. The City Center complex includes the City Hall (150,000 GSF, including the City’s Commission Chambers), the Mandel Public Library (85,000 GSF, including a 150-seat auditorium, children’s library, and teen library), the Palm Beach Photographic Centre and Museum (35,000 GSF) and a parking garage for 300 cars with charging stations for electric vehicles.
Song + Associates originally conducted a space-needs study in 1997 to program the future functions of City Center as part of Phase I for the project. Once funding was established years later, Song + Associates validated the study by providing necessary program modifications to reflect the city’s growth and reorganization. We also developed new programs for those departments that were not part of the original study. This phase of the project consisted of weekly meetings with the library staff, Photographic Centre staff, and each of the 22 departments within City Hall in order to understand the workflow, workspaces, support spaces, and department adjacencies. After the programming and master planning was completed then came the design to create a civic connection space for the public all in one convenient location.

The First Baptist Church is a landmark of downtown Fort Lauderdale. This mid-century church, built in a style typical of Anglican Baptist churches, was recently renovated and expanded to include several community centers, including a great Student Life Center. Christmas is a favorite time for family visits to the church because of its annual pageant, which has been held every year since 1983. The church is also known for its spectacular Easter and Christmas community concerts.
First Baptist Fort Lauderdale is a church in South Florida led by Lead Pastor James Welch and his wife Amy. The church gathers at our 7-acre treasure right in the heart of the city!
First Baptist Fort Lauderdale has a rich and inspiring story built around the “Jesus First life.” The story began in 1907 when a handful of people had a dream to help their friends know God and discover their purpose in life. They believed the church was more than a building you come to, it was designed to be a community that you belong to. When the church first started gathering and serving its neighbors the city of Fort Lauderdale was not yet incorporated.
We are affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention, which means we cooperate and collaborate with more than 40,000 other SBC churches to bring healing to those who are hurting through education, disaster relief, humanitarian aid, missionary immersion and so much more.

Passiflora edulis is a vine species of passion flower that is native to Brazil, Paraguay and northern Argentina. Its common names include passion fruit (US), passionfruit (UK and Commonwealth), and purple granadilla (South Africa).
It is cultivated commercially in tropical and subtropical areas for its sweet, seedy fruit and is widely grown in several countries of South America, Central America, the Caribbean, Africa, Southern Asia, Vietnam, Israel, Australia, South Korea, Hawaii (Liliko) and the mainland United States.
The passion fruit is a pepo, a type of berry, round to oval, either yellow or dark purple at maturity, with a soft to firm, juicy interior filled with numerous seeds. The fruit is both eaten and juiced; passion fruit juice is often added to other fruit juices to enhance the aroma.
