Baghdad, 07 March 2018 – Under the patronage of H.E. Prime Minister of Iraq, Dr. Hayder Al-Abadi , today in Baghdad a high level conference on implementation of Iraq National Action Plan on United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security in Iraq, was held.
In 2012-2014 the Iraqi Cross Sector Task Force (CSTF) developed the Iraqi National Action Plan (NAP) for implementation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325. The NAP 1325 is a crucial tool for improving the status of women’s rights in Iraq. Composed of ministries, institutions and civil society, the CSTF has been the driving mechanism for implementing, monitoring, and reporting of this NAP.
At today’s conference, the Government of Iraq and CSTF took the opportunity to mark the International Women’s Day, 8th of March, by sharing the preliminary outcomes, lessons learned and conclusions summarized during the on-going process of developing of the draft national report on the implementation of the first NAP 1325, which will be presented to the United Nations Security Council later during 2018.
At the opening session of the conference, participants were greeted by the Prime Minister of Iraq, Dr. Hayder Al Abadi, Secretary General of the Council of Ministers and Co-Chair of the CSTF 1325, Dr. Mahdi Al Alaq, Chairperson of the National Committee for the Advancement of Iraqi Women and Chair of the Coordination Committee of CSTF 1325, Dr. Thikra Alloush, Chair of the High Council of Women of the Kurdistan Region and Co-Chair of CSTF 1325, Ms. Pakshan Zangana and by the Director General of the Iraqi Women Empowerment Department of the Council of Ministers, Dr. Ibtisam Aziz.
Representatives of the international community expressed their commitment to support women’s rights and their participation in the process of peace building in Iraq as well as in the upcoming phase of the development of the second NAP. On behalf of the International community the conference was addressed by the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq, Mr. Jan Kubiš, British Ambassador to Iraq, Jon Wilks, Charge d’Affairs of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Marielle Geraedts, and by the Country Director of UN Women, Ms. Dina Zorba.

I was up in Truchas the other day at the Tooley's Tree Farm tooleystrees.com/about-us and spent a few hours walking the property and photographing his farm implements. I believe this is a seed planter. I crawled under the darn thing for this one.

SRSG on Sexual Violence in Conflict Bangura visit to Iraq
Baghdad, 26 - 28 February 2017 - On the invitation of the Government of Iraq the Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) on Sexual Violence in Conflict, Mrs. Zainab Hawa Bangura is visiting Iraq.
On 26 February 2017 SRSG Bangura met with Mr. Erfan Mahmood Al Hayali, Iraqi Minister of Defense. The implementation of the Joint Communique to address conflict related sexual violence (which was signed in New York in September 2016) was discussed as well as the importance of enforcing accountability for the unprecedented, systematic campaign of sexual violence committed by DAESH.
In the meeting with Mr. Shorish Khalid Saeed, Iraqi Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, SRSG Bangura discussed the structured collaboration and implementation of the Joint Communique with special emphasis on the survivors centered approach in dealing with these crimes.
SRSG Bangura met with H. E. Dr. Salim Al-Jobouri, the Speaker of the Council of Representatives (CoR). Legislative work that CoR is undertaking in alleviating the consequences of the war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by DAESH by providing legal framework for the prosecution of perpetrators of these crimes was discussed. SRSG Bangura confirmed readiness of the United Nations to provide support and expertize in achieving these goals. It was highlighted that Iraqi results in this field can establish a model that might become a blue print for other countries in similar situations.
SRSG on Sexual Violence in Conflict, Mrs. Zainab Hawa Bangura, met with H. E. Mr. Haider Al-Abadi, the Prime Minister of Iraq. Comprehensive collaboration on the implementation of the Joint Communique to address conflict related sexual violence was discussed with special emphasis on the documentation of the cases and persecution of the perpetuators of the sexual violence crimes committed by DAESH. The need to address these serious crimes and the sensitivity of the long term consequences for the victims and the whole society were highlighted.
In the meeting with Mr. Mahmoud Al-Bayati, Director General, Counter-Terrorism and National Security Advisor, SRSG Bangura discussed the structured collaboration on the implementation of the Joint Communique with special emphasis on the enforcement of accountability for the unprecedented, systematic campaign of sexual violence committed by DAESH.
On 27 February 2017, SRSG Bangura met with Mr. Haidar al-Zamili, Iraqi Minister of Justice. The need to provide legal framework for the prosecution of the perpetrators of the horrendous sexual violence crimes and means to obtain and protect evidences and witnesses were discussed. SRSG Bangura confirmed readiness of the United Nations to provide support and expertize so that these goals could be achieved in accordance with the highest standards of the international human rights and criminal law.
In a meeting with Mr. Jassim Mohammed Al-Jaf, Iraqi Minister for Migrations and Displacement SRSG Bangura discussed the issue of support to the victims of sexual violence, currently located in IDP camps, to cope with trauma and possible stigma.
SRSG Bangura with Mr. Faeq Zaidan, the Head of the High Judicial Council of Iraq discussed the strengthening of the legal framework and training of judges for the filing and processing of the cases of sexual violence committed by Daesh, with the special emphasis on the need to implement the highest standards of the international criminal law and human rights.
In her separate meetings with Mr. Taqi Al Mawla, a Turkmen Shi’a religious leader, and with a group of prominent Sunni religious leaders, SRSG Bangura discussed the role of religious leaders in sensitizing the communities on the issue of assistance to the victims of sexual violence to cope with their traumas and possible stigma.
On 28 February 2017, SRSG on Sexual Violence in Conflict, Mrs. Bangura, met with a group of Representatives of the Council of Representatives (CoR). The CoR representatives described the ongoing efforts they are undertaking to improve the existing legal framework to facilitate the prosecution of perpetrators of conflict-related sexual violence and to better address the consequences of these crimes, including issues related to forced marriages and the situation of children born to survivors of rape. SRSG Bangura confirmed readiness of the United Nations to provide support and expertize in achieving these goals.
In the continuation of her visit to Iraq SRSG Bangura travels to Kurdistan Region.

Baghdad, 12 April 2016 - The Implementation and Follow-up Committee on National Reconciliation in collaboration with UNAMI held a two-day workshop on Women, Peace and Security in Baghdad from 11-12 April 2016.
The workshop; the first of its kind following the re-establishment of the Women’s Office in the Implementation and Follow-up Committee on National Reconciliation was aimed at enhancing the capacity of the Committee in implementing that National Action Plan on Security Council Resolution 1325 and was a follow-up on the implementation of the recommendations on national reconciliation and women’s participation provided during the National Conference on ‘Empowering Women to Address the Impact of Terrorism’, held in Erbil from 03-04 August 2015.
Marwan Ali, Director of Political Affairs and Mohammed Salman, Prime Minister Advisor and Head of the Reconciliation Committee opened the workshop.

A un mes de implementarse el programa BonoGas, que permite financiar la instalación interna de gas natural en los hogares, especialmente de escasos recursos económicos, se han beneficiado más de 300 familias de Lima y el Callao con esta medida.
Así lo anunció, el ministro de Energía y Minas, Gonzalo Tamayo Flores, en la inauguración de las primeras conexiones domiciliarias con este combustible, financiadas por BonoGas, ubicadas en el distrito de San Juan de Miraflores. Explicó que desde que se inicio este programa, a inicios de octubre, hay alrededor de 8,000 inscritos. De ellos, 1,500 ya están en proceso de conexión.
Con esta iniciativa, que se enmarca dentro de los 100 primeros días de gestión, el Gobierno busca impulsar la masificación del uso del gas natural no solo en Lima sino también en el interior del país a través de diversos proyectos que están próximos a culminar.
Cabe indicar que, para las familias con ingresos bajos, el financiamiento con BonoGas será al 100%. En tanto, a los hogares con ingresos medios-bajos se les financiará el 75% y los de ingresos medios el 50% en 10 años.
Durante la visita que realizó a los hogares que ya cuentan con dicho combustible, Tamayo Flores estuvo acompañado del presidente del Organismo Supervisor de la Inversión en Energía y Minería (OSINERGMIN), Jesús Tamayo Pacheco.
También informó que se está terminando de definir el diseño del BonoGNV, que financiará la conversión de vehículos a gas natural, lo que permitirá reducir el consumo de gasolina y gas licuado de petróleo (GLP). “Esta medida es consistente con las metas de sostenibilidad y el uso de las fuentes de energía abundantes del país”, refirió.
Tamayo Flores indicó que se usarán los fondos disponibles, que son cerca de 600 millones de soles, para la ejecución de obras de electrificación rural. A diciembre del 2016 se espera llegar al 81% de cobertura, la meta al 2021 es alcanzar el 99% de acceso universal del servicio de energía eléctrica.
Otra medida adoptada en los primeros 100 días, fue la reducción de las tarifas eléctricas, especialmente para las zonas rurales del interior del país, así como la revisión de los procedimientos administrativos, eliminando 16 trámites, que restaban agilidad y eficiencia al portafolio, refirió.
