Baghdad, 12 April 2016 - The Implementation and Follow-up Committee on National Reconciliation in collaboration with UNAMI held a two-day workshop on Women, Peace and Security in Baghdad from 11-12 April 2016.
The workshop; the first of its kind following the re-establishment of the Women’s Office in the Implementation and Follow-up Committee on National Reconciliation was aimed at enhancing the capacity of the Committee in implementing that National Action Plan on Security Council Resolution 1325 and was a follow-up on the implementation of the recommendations on national reconciliation and women’s participation provided during the National Conference on ‘Empowering Women to Address the Impact of Terrorism’, held in Erbil from 03-04 August 2015.
Marwan Ali, Director of Political Affairs and Mohammed Salman, Prime Minister Advisor and Head of the Reconciliation Committee opened the workshop.

Ambassador David Johnson will lead the U.S. delegation to the Human Dimension Implementation Meeting (HDIM) of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), to be held in Warsaw, Poland, September 26 to October 7. The delegation will deliver the United States’ positions on the state of implementation of OSCE’s human dimension commitments. They will engage with delegations of other participating States and a range of NGOs and civil society organizations.
The Warsaw HDIM is the OSCE region’s most important human rights event of the year, bringing together hundreds of government representatives, human rights activists, and international experts. HDIM participants will evaluate the implementation of human dimension commitments by the 56 participating States of the OSCE and review the procedures and mechanisms for monitoring and enhancing compliance with these commitments.
This year, the HDIM will feature three special topics as they apply to OSCE participating States for comment and consideration: elections and elections observation, freedom of movement and internal migration, and the status of Roma and Sinti peoples. In addition, at this year’s HDIM, the United States looks forward to addressing the applicability of fundamental freedoms recognized by OSCE participating States to powerful new digital media and the online world in general.

Madam Humaira Hashmi ( Director Operations NCHD Sindh ) provided detailed presentation about NCHD Programs i.e. UPE, Literacy, BBSYDP Projects and also about MALALA and OWN School initiatives. It also includes the detailed briefing of NCHD’s national and provincial achievements. The achievements and efforts were widely appreciated by the Participants.
Dr. Iqbal Muhammad Choudry Director HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry Karachi University highlighted the importance of education and appreciated the role of NCHD in bridging the gap between strategy formulation and strategy execution to enhance Literacy rate and Universal Primary Education (UPE) with a view to fulfilling Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). He further ensured his volunteer support in teachers’ training and development for the provision of intellectual volunteers for the training of teachers all across the board. He further said that socio-economic development of Brazil, South Korea and Malaysia is largely attributed to effective education systems. In addition to that he urged government to increase budget allocation for the education sector.
Anees Ur Rehman Chairman Fund Raising Committee Rotery Club explained the role of private sector for enhancement of education. He said that Rotery club is already working for improvements in education. He affirmed his support to NCHD and also ensured that they would also undertake filed visits in collaboration with NCHD aiming at enhancement of School initiatives.
Pervaiz Lodhie Member PHDF provided detailed information regarding background of PHDF its working style and the current role. He also explained the collaboration of PHDF with NCHD & Govt of Pakistan. He also conducted interactive session with the participants about the models of UPE and Literacy. He also discussed about the use of technology to improve the education and teacher’s training.
All DGMs shared the achievements of their respective districts in the UPE and Literacy and also provided feedback to further improve the execution of strategies at the district level.
Prevez Lodhi sb appreciated the work, efforts and achievement of NCHD and focused on proper showcasing of NCHD work to share with the national and international donor community to attract them to support education through NCHD. He suggested all DGMs of NCHD to share success story reports & documentaries of schools/ literacy centers on social groups.
He further shared that his meeting with Baligh ur Rehman (Minister for Professional Education and Technical Training) has been fixed in which he will discuss about NCHD.

Review of SDGs implementation: SDG 7 – Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.
Achieving SDG 7 will catalyze actions to meet the Paris Agreement on climate change and reach the other SDGs including poverty eradication, gender equality, mitigation of and adaptation to climate change, food security, health, education, sustainable cities and communities, clean water and sanitation, jobs, innovation, and transport. However, without urgent action, the world will fall short of achievement of SDG 7 and consequently other SDGs.
The discussion is expected to assess progress, identify challenges at the national and international levels towards achieving SDG 7 including its targets on energy access, renewables, energy efficiency and means of implementation, and it will promote integrated policy solutions.

We are pleased to announce that Prince George’s County (MD), in partnership with Corizon and CorrecTek, went live with the CorrecTek Electronic Medical Record on September 21st. Under the leadership of Corenne Labbe, Stephanie Walton and Abu Kalokoh from Prince George’s County, and the Corizon implementation project team led by Wesley Newell and Karen Olsen, the transition to a fully electronic EMR will help the clinical staff to provide enhanced patient care.
Abu commented on the benefits that he is already noticing, “When a clinician can easily access radiology reports, lab reports, MARs and blood sugar results, you can visualize and record his or her satisfaction during sick call encounters.” He followed up by commenting, “Managers can just about know what clinicians are doing at any time by the System Timeline,” and ended by commenting that the “EHR is invaluable in accessing medical information on a timely basis.”

The Government of United State announced support community-level reconciliation initiative and launched national Peace Center in Juba for all South Sudan to promote peace and reconciliation. The Center will make available publications on global peace processes and implementation strategies for use by South Sudanese. The Center will offer materials including copies of peace agreement, legislative, and official polities. Additional to services in center include, meeting space, computer access and Internet. The new “Reconciliation for Peace in South Sudan” initiative funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by Catholic Relief Services. The project will last for 30 months. This $6 million program will support South Sudan Council of Churches as its engagement with grassroots reconciliation processes.

For much of my youth, I seriously thought I was going to become a grain farmer. Whenever my dad would go into the field to hay/plant, I would go with him. I would play with toy tractors/implements in the sandbox and in the yard all spring, summer and fall.
I got out the old toys, they haven't been played with in probably well over 13 years, they've seen better days as they are not in the best shape anymore and some of the toys are broken.
I decided to play around in the snow, I call this "Harvest season", I got out one of my old toy Case IH toy tractors, and my Allis Chalmers combine. Oddly enough, the toy tractor is an exact replica of the tractor I use for haying each summer at the farm.
Oh how I miss my childhood.. a simpler time where a toy tractor could bring you hours of joy!
I wonder if they still make toys out of metal and rubber to this very day or if theyre all made out of plastic now.. blech!

Ana Domínguez’s graphic design concept for the exhibition series Panorama, as well as its first edition, Notes for an Eye Fire, is an integral part of the projects’ communication, linking the physical exhibition with its online counterpart.
Domínguez worked closely with Lara Coromina for both commissions, along with Pau Geis and Ana Habash, all members of her studio’s team.
The Panorama identity is based on a customised version of the Du Nord Macba typeface and a stamp-like circular wordmark. Developed for the web and social media, the design expands the letters of “panorama” into a series of black-and-white switchbacks and arabesques that recall concrete poetry.
The graphic concept for Notes for an Eye Fire reflects the vitality and heterogeneity of the exhibition’s participants, and draws on some of the key refrains from Gabriel Ventura’s homonymous 2020 poetry collection — not least the notion of creative insurgency, the power of the word, and the thwarting of sight. Through a visual language of volcanic eruptions, billowing smoke screens, and motion lines, Domínguez and her team use illustration to break apart the title and fire off allusions to the exhibition.

Los establecimientos educativos también recibieron implementos durante esta fiesta deportiva en el Coliseo de San Cristóbal, entre los que constan balones de fútbol y baloncesto, pelotas de béisbol, chalecos, juegos de ajedrez, conos medianos, silbatos, cronómetros, ulas, testigos y tablas de natación, con una inversión de USD12.537.72.
El Ministro de Transportes y Comunicaciones, José Gallardo Ku, recibió del Gobierno del Japón equipos destinados a implementar un sistema de prevención de desastres que permitirá a la población recibir información rápida, precisa y estable sobre emergencias.
El sistema -que utilizará el estándar de Televisión Digital Terrestre japonés brasileño ISDB-T, que viene siendo implementado en el Perú- podría utilizarse en caso de que el Fenómeno El Niño afecte a alguna de las localidades beneficiadas.
El "Proyecto para el Mejoramiento del equipamiento para la Gestión del Riesgo de Desastres en la República del Perú" comprende la donación e implementación de ocho sistemas de observación de mareas; ocho sistemas EWBS (Emergency Warning Broadcasting System), conformados por estaciones de televisión digital terrestre-TDT con capacidad para transmitir la señal EWBS; y 15 receptores de TDT con capacidad de recibir esa señal.
El Instituto Nacional de Defensa Civil (INDECI) es el responsable de emitir señal la alerta, la cual llega al Instituto Nacional de Radio y Televisión (IRTP), que la difunde a los hogares de la población de las localidades beneficiarias, utilizando el sistema EWBS (a través de la señal de televisión digital).
Las estaciones de TDT con EWBS -que estarán ubicadas en Arequipa (Arequipa, 1; Camaná, 3), Ica (Pisco, 1), La Libertad (Trujillo, 4), Lima (Lima, 1; Cañete, 1), Moquegua (Ilo, 4)- no solo podrán transmitir alertas por tsunami, sino también sobre diversos tipos de desastres, como inundaciones, deslizamientos, incendios, entre otros.
Actualmente en el Perú la información de desastres se tramite vía telefónica, radial o por email, siendo alta la probabilidad de interrupción en la comunicación cuando ocurre un desastre de gran magnitud.
"La introducción de este nuevo Sistema EWBS hará posible que la población reciba información más rápida, precisa y estable sobre emergencias por desastres, lo que contribuirá a salvar vidas y reducir daños", señaló Gallardo Ku.
El Ministro Gallardo y el Viceministro de Comunicaciones del Japón, Yasuo Sakamoto, destacaron la importancia del fortalecimiento de la cooperación entre ambos países en el campo de la televisión digital, así como ampliar la relación de cooperación en el sector de las tecnologías de la información y comunicación (TIC).
La entrega de equipos se realizó en el marco de la inauguración del Seminario Internacional en materia de Televisión Digital Terrestre (TDT) y Tecnologías de la Información y Comunicaciones (TIC), que se realizará los días 14 y 15 de enero de 2016 en Lima y en el que participarán delegados de 15 empresas japonesas.

Antique tractors belonging to the Tessmer family. They mostly collect Minneapolis-Moline models, but also have a few other models including Case, Oliver, and Fordson.
These were taken at the Edgar, WI antique tractor show in August, 2011. All but the Oliver are handheld, 3-exposure capture for HDR processing.

En el marco de la reunión para el cumplimiento de los compromisos derivados de la 12° del GORE Ejecutivo, el viceministro de Mype e Industria, José Salardi, señaló que el gobierno, a través del Ministerio de la Producción (Produce), impulsará el desarrollo de las cadenas productivas de pesca, acuicultura, agroindustria y forestal en Loreto, a través de un trabajo articulado con las autoridades regionales.
En ese sentido, indicó que la reunión de los equipos técnicos de su sector y del gobierno regional, ha dado como resultado una serie de acuerdos que contribuirán para que Loreto se convierta en una región productiva en base a sus potencialidades. "Hemos identificado que estamos muy alineados en muchas intervenciones, incluso en aquellas que ya tenemos en camino", destacó.
Al respecto, Salardi precisó que al cierre del primer semestre estarán implementados al 100 % el CITE Forestal y el CITE Productivo Maynas. "Es una inversión de 22 millones de soles que ha realizado Produce a través del ITP. Con lo cual se ha puesto en valor estas infraestructuras importantes, para poder dar todo apoyo y soporte a las cadenas productivas de pesca, acuicultura y agroindustrias".
Manifestó que para el presente año proyectan prestar un mínimo de 1200 servicios de innovación y transferencia tecnológica, que ayudará a fortalecer las capacidades e innovar a las diferentes industrias de esta región.
Asimismo, informó que otros de los compromisos es la pronta apertura del Centro de Desarrollo Empresarial del programa “Tu Empresa”, para promover la formalización de 400 nuevas unidades de negocio.
De otro lado, Salardi indicó que el sector espera cerrar el año inaugurando el Gran Mercado de Belén. "Se está avanzando a un nivel importante. El proyecto está a más de 50% de ejecución y en el presupuesto de este año se han incluido 50 millones de soles para su culminación", apuntó.
Acciones en pesca y acuicultura
De otro lado, el viceministro Salardi informó que, a través del FONDEPES, Produce iniciará la construcción del primer desembarcadero pesquero artesanal de la Amazonia “La Punchana”, para lo cual se ha destinado una inversión de hasta S/ 22 000 000.
Asimismo, este fondo realizará un proyecto piloto para la implementación de aislamiento térmico en embarcaciones pesqueras artesanales para el adecuado transporte de los productos hidrobiológicos. "Con esta actividad, se espera incrementar los fondos para créditos destinados a los pescadores artesanales y acuicultores de la región hasta por un valor de S/ 250 000", destacó.
Otro de los acuerdos es la implementación de mejoras en los servicios del Centro Acuícola Nuevo Horizonte, por un valor de hasta S/ 14 000 000, con ello se mejorarán los servicios de producción y distribución de alevinos para la ampliación de la frontera acuícola, así como la capacitación operativa especializada a los productores de la Región.
Mercado de Putumayo
Más tarde, el viceministro Salardi hizo entrega oficial al alcalde provincial de Putumayo, Humberto Fuentes, del expediente técnico aprobado para la ejecución del proyecto "Mejoramiento del Mercado Municipal de la Ciudad de San Antonio del Estrecho".
Esta importante acción del gobierno en una ciudad de frontera con Colombia, cuenta con una inversión de más de 4 millones de soles y beneficiará a más de 3000 habitantes.
Las obras se realizarán en un terreno de 1410 m2, donde se implementarán 40 puestos de comercio, con una moderna infraestructura e innovaciones que garantizarán la alta calidad de los productos.
En el marco del proyecto implementando por la Organización Pan Americana de Salud / Organización Mundial de la Salud (OPS/OMS), financiado por la Dirección General de Ayuda Humanitaria y Protección Civil de la Comisión Europea (ECHO) para los migrantes, desde hace varios meses se viene trabajando en el municipio de Cúcuta.
En el corregimiento de Palmarito las acciones estuvieron enfocadas para que los habitantes cuenten con un Plan Comunitario para la gestión del riesgo de desastres y primeros respondientes en salud formados y dotados, que puedan desarrollar primeros auxilios físicos y psicológicos, contra incendio y vigilancia comunitaria de eventos de importancia en salud.
Con un simulacro de inundación finalizó una de las etapas del proceso comunitario. La jornada incluyó la limpieza a una quebrada que atraviesa el municipio y que ha sido utilizada por los habitantes para votar la basura. Según los pobladores, la prevención de los riesgos puede salvar vidas.

Substantial progress has been made in structuring and implementing infrastructure projects in the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean region, contributing to significant social, environmental and economic development. However, traditional support through national budgets and donor funding cannot meet ongoing needs for building and maintaining infrastructure; and access to new sources of private capital remains a challenge. The real and perceived risks for private investors (e.g. currency volatility, illiquid local capital markets, political uncertainty) have resulted in many projects remaining unfunded or delayed due to a lack of competitive financing options. The scale of investment to meet existing and future growth demands of the region requires targeted infrastructure investment and therefore new sources of capital - whether from the private sector or from the combination of public and private as Jordanâs Queen Alia International Airport successful PPP case demonstrates.
In this context, innovative approaches to increase private financing and government initiatives such as dedicated PPP units, project prioritization and acceleration programmes can help to address some of the country risks and increase access to capital for priority infrastructure projects. Despite the humongous task of rebuilding, new opportunities in infrastructure investment are emerging for the private sector. In this event, participants focused on the role of public-private structuring of investments and related initiatives that offer the potential to mobilize international capital markets and regional institutional investors to finance infrastructure.

Every year, 12,000 women in Pakistan die of birth complications. The Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) Services Component, implemented by MCHIP/Jhpiego, aims at preventing maternal, newborn, and child deaths by ensuring skilled birth attendance (SBA) through a total market approach, empowered community, timely referral of obstetric and neonatal complications to an emergency obstetric and newborn care (EmONC) facility, and improved access to child care.
Lack of electricity in remote areas is a major issue that often leads to obstetric complications and newborn deaths. Refrigerated storage is vital for the effectiveness of life saving drugs and vaccines. Ice boxes are used in remot areas of this purpose but it is an ineffective method especially when easy availability of ice is a problem. To overcome these issues, Lodhie Foundation in association with Maternal and Child Health Integrated Program/JHPIEGO, extended its Kavalcare program and provided a Solar Powered System to a remote clinic located at village Haji Usman Jhakro near Makli, District Thatta. System provides sufficient power to operate a small refrigerator, a fan and 3 lamps 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. It was designed, manufactured and installed by Shaan Technologies private Limited Karachi. After installation of Solar System in August 2014, this small remote clinic is serving a community of 10,000 plus persons who lives in village Haji Usman and surrounding areas. On an average 10 patients visits this clinic each day. Clinic also provides up to 15 birth attendance and new born care in a month.

Financé par le Ministère des Relations internationales et de la Francophonie du gouvernement du Québec pour une durée de trois ans (2019-2021), SAGA-Sénégal apportera un appui à la révision et la mise en œuvre de la composante adaptation de la Contribution déterminée au niveau national (CDN) du Sénégal pour les secteurs agricoles. Le projet facilitera également la réalisation de trois études de résilience dans les domaines des ressources en eau, de l’élevage et de l’agroforesterie, et permettra d’accompagner les populations rurales des Niayes, du Bassin arachidier, de la Casamance, du Fleuve Sénégal et de Matam pour l’implémentation et la mise à l’échelle de bonnes pratiques d’adaptation au changement climatique. Enfin, le projet propose de bâtir sur l’existant, d’exploiter les synergies et de créer des liens entre l’ensemble des secteurs, des acteurs et des échelles du projet à travers une approche holistique de l'adaptation.

These pictures were taken on 26 September 2019 in Dakar during the official launch of the Senegal component of the strengthening national adaptation planning capacities for food security and nutrition project, entitled 'Strenghtening AGricultural Adaptation' (SAGA-Senegal).
Funded by the Government of Quebec for a period of three years (2019-2021), SAGA-Senegal will support the implementation of the adaptation component of Senegal's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) for the agricultural sectors. It will also facilitate the completion of three studies assessing resilience potential in the fields of water resources, livestock and agroforestry, and will support the rural populations of the Niayes, Groundnut Basin, Casamance, Senegal River and Matam for the implementation and scaling up of adaptation practices. Finally, the project proposes to build on existing processes, knowledge and interventions, exploiting synergies and creating links between all sectors, actors and scales of the project through a holistic approach to adaptation.

Themed Gardens Hortulus in Dobrzyca were founded in 1992. Their implementation is still ongoing. Currently available to explore 28 different themed gardens. Total accumulated more than 6000 species and varieties of plants, including species of exotic and unique. Gardens are in an extremely hot climate zone 7b, where the winters are mild and there is much more rainfall than in other parts of the country. Gardens have been repeatedly awarded, including by the Polish Tourist Organisation.
Garden area is more than four hectares. The essence of these gardens is to show the plants in the garden compositions and their use in the various gardens (hence the lack of name tags). Visiting Gardens Hortulus, beyond the obvious contact with nature, provides an aesthetic experience and the spiritual. Therefore, also the gardens are divided by theme. They include classic as well as Japanese, French, Mediterranean, and those related to the environment: garden stone, rock and water. There are also gardens, utility, and herbal or vegetable.
