ODC : Urban Landscape
No image manipulation here, no cropping...just contrast and texture. Out of the many choices I had to showcase the modern Singapore city, I liked this view from one of the alley ways. Seen here :
1. Roof of a Sikh Temple.
2.Old building in foreground with crack and vegetation growing.
3. Behind it, high rise building.
4. On the right, exhaust ducting from a fancy restaurant.
5. Power line running across on the top.
I'm sure it's not just me.. doesn't Rob resemble Ansel Adams... if Ansel wasn't such an ectomorph?
This grabshot wasn't metered, and even my RAW file didn't hold those highlights, in this case, but I liked the profile and overall effect enough to .. put it up.
I desaturated (that bright orange shirt was overpowering this view!) in Photoshop, and added the background tones, since there was just a blank wall behind him.
This is Cherry Knowle mental asylum in the North East of England designed by the Architect: George Thomas Hine it was built between 1891 - 1895 and an isolation hospital and infirmary block were added in 1902, and is 1049 ft long from end to end and with corridors over 300 ft long, its a very creepy place to be near on a dark or foggy night and i don't scare easily , patients have been know to escape form this building quite alot , its now abandoned which i think makes it more creepy , if you go inside the place alot of the old stuff is still left behind just as if they left in a hurry , operating tables , medical cabinets , beds , and even patients oil paintings.
This place is totally MASSIVE and it even has its own build in church ( which you can see in the picture, the bit with the tall roof) it has a swimming pool and a theater with stage and its own morgue to store dead bodies, all of witch has been abandoned , it was abandoned in 1995 , 100 years after it opened.
This place really is MASSIVE, it goes on and on, some corridors are over 300 ft long and the building is spread 3 floors, the church alone is over 100 ft tall, its unbelievable how big this place really is, its not possible to see it all at the same time.
This has been comented on, on TV and in the news papers as been the most haunted hospital and mental asylum in the country.
On the same grounds where this stands is the new Cherry knowle mental asylum buildings that now houses all patients , them new building are alot less creepy because they look more new ( from the 70's ) and don't look like the style of building norman Bates lives in ( physco film ) lol.

So, demolition work has finally begun on Cherry Knowle Lunatic Asylum, it actually begun about 4 weeks ago around the beginning of May i think.
I expected there to be nothing left by this point but its actually took them quite a while to do very little work due to the massive size of the place and also due to the fact that they have been stripping the building of all materials of value like the slate roof tiles and scrap metal and such like.
But some day soon the time will come when there will be nothing left but photographs.

I love long exposures, everything to do with night time, the dark, sunrise and sunset.
I like to take pictures mainly at night , sometimes during the day and in dull and fading light and I will sometimes display the time and date the picture was taken too.
I tend to take pictures of Light trails, Motorway traffic, Street lights, Buildings, Landscapes, Bokeh, Night bokeh and Hexagonal Night Bokeh in and around the North East of England.
All of my pictures are 100% natural and untouched in every way without ever been Photo shopped or altered or messed about with in anyway whatsoever, No multi layered photography, No HDR's and No image manipulation of any kind, all of my pictures look just the way they did when I saw them at the time of taking and I'm VERY PROUD of that.
I don't do any photo processing at all, I don't even own any photo software.
All of my starbursts are all 100% natural without using any filters or anything else, as is all my bokeh, night bokeh and hexagonal night bokeh, its all natural, no funny gimmicks at all.
I don't do anything with my pictures apart from take them and then upload them , 99.99999% of my pictures don't even get cropped , they are all 100% natural and untouched and then uploaded.

Corvallis, Oregon ~ The back of City Hall, part of the old Moose Lodge, Central Park, foothills and sky. This was a banal sunset shot, and I had fun trying all kinds of techniques and turned it into what most people would think was a snowy evening with some magic in the air, hence the title. Several people thought it would make a good Holiday card. It seemed a bit dark to me, but people seemed to love it. The 892 refers to Sony Mavica FD-75 picture, handheld. It is best viewed large, not because large is very large, but because the snowy look doesn't show in the thumbnail sketch. Someday, if anyone begs and pleads a little, I might try to dig out the original picture I took, and post it in my comparison and resemblances set. Technical trivia
Image manipulations and animated gif generation done with StereoPhotoMaker, a freeware program by Masuji Suto & David Sykes.
Before the explosion of Scanners,Photoshop and other image manipulation tools, I used to do collages, often using Ephemera such as this. Finding ways to isolate areas that i wanted to capture was a challenge for me back then- often leaving me frustrated with the final result.
Due to todays "Snow Day" in Chicago, and not being able to safely;y drive to my studio (and back) i chose to go through some older files- and ran across these beauties, that I thought I'd share w/ my flickr homies!

My grandad in the back garden of his home 1 Hylton Terrace, Bill Quay. Probably around 1960, Bob died in 1962 just missing his 80th.
Most of the shots in this set were taken by Bob with his Kodak, Voigtlander and box cameras - which I still have to this day and will be found photographed in this set. Though what Bob would have made of megapixels and instant image manipulation I can only wonder.

This image is derived from the 1860-1863 stereograph, possibly by Edwin Emerson, depicting Troy N.Y., C.F.H. (Charles F. Himes) and Prof. O.N. Rood, Warren's house in background, looking n.
Both were members of the Amateur Photographic Exchange club, which functioned from 1860-1863 when its secretary was called to war. Many of the earliest surviving stereographs in the LOC collection were generated via this exchange. As noted in a brief history (Image 1952, vol1, issue2, page4) one of their correspondents was Oliver Wendell Holmes. He invented the Holmes stereoscope and gave the design away. The instrument proved so popular it drove most rivals out of the market.

This was a grab shot, with my pocket Canon 35 mm. We were walking back to our hotel in the French Quarter after having begneis (sp?) . The locale is just up the street to the right of the Cathedral. After crossing in front of her something stuck in my mind and when I got between the cars acrross the street from here I turned and there was the composition. I did do a some tweaking and improvements in Photoshop. The lamp wasn't lit, and the sidewalkj was blown out with highlights, as well as the color of her skirt was to musted in the negative.
We got there right after a very cold freeze that had gripped this whole area of the country. Here in Austin, Texas it had gotten down to 18 degrees F. Evidently it had done the same in N.O. All the pipes were frozen and we were cautioned by our hotel to not flush until later that night.

Details and History
The Library of Congress website offers a multitude of historical images, many with no known restrictions on use. This image is cropped from the damaged 19th century Timothy H. O'Sullivan stereograph titled North Anna River, Virginia. Soldiers bathing. Ruins of Richmond & Fredericksburg railroad bridge in the distance.
