I was watching a nice white egret across the lake, when a dark movement MUCH closer by caught my eye. This young Green Heron had hopped up from the ground beneath my field of vision onto this low branch.
I couldn't believe my luck... on other circumstances as well.. chief of them was the soft overcast light and a fence that could help maybe confuse its recognition of me. Overall I had about 3-4 good minutes to shoot a few fairly steady shots while he made this stretch.. fascinating throat and tongue, these things have..

This is Cherry Knowle Mental Asylum in the North East of England designed by the Architect: George Thomas Hine it was built between 1891 - 1895 and an isolation hospital and infirmary block were added in 1902, and is 1049 ft long from end to end and with corridors over 300 ft long, its a very creepy place to be near on a dark or foggy night and i don't scare easily , patients have been know to escape form this building quite alot , its now abandoned which i think makes it more creepy , if you go inside the place alot of the old stuff is still left behind just as if they left in a hurry , operating tables , medical cabinets , beds , and even patients oil paintings.
This place is totally MASSIVE and it even has its own build in church ( which you can see in the picture, the bit with the tall roof) it has a swimming pool and a theater with stage and its own morgue to store dead bodies, all of witch has been abandoned , it was abandoned in 1995 , 100 years after it opened.
This place really is MASSIVE, it goes on and on, some corridors are over 300 ft long and the building is spread 3 floors, the church alone is over 100 ft tall, its unbelievable how big this place really is, its not possible to see it all at the same time.
This has been comented on, on TV and in the news papers as been the most haunted hospital and mental asylum in the country.
On the same grounds where this stands is the new Cherry knowle mental asylum buildings that now houses all patients , them new building are alot less creepy because they look more new ( from the 70's ) and don't look like the style of building norman Bates lives in ( physco film ) lol.

I love long exposures, everything to do with night time, the dark, sunrise and sunset.
I like to take pictures mainly at night , sometimes during the day and in dull and fading light and I will sometimes display the time and date the picture was taken too.
I tend to take pictures of Light trails, Motorway traffic, Street lights, Buildings, Landscapes, Bokeh, Night bokeh and Hexagonal Night Bokeh in and around the North East of England.
All of my pictures are 100% natural and untouched in every way without ever been Photo shopped or altered or messed about with in anyway whatsoever, No multi layered photography, No HDR's and No image manipulation of any kind, all of my pictures look just the way they did when I saw them at the time of taking and I'm VERY PROUD of that.
I don't do any photo processing at all, I don't even own any photo software.
All of my starbursts are all 100% natural without using any filters or anything else, as is all my bokeh, night bokeh and hexagonal night bokeh, its all natural, no funny gimmicks at all.
I don't do anything with my pictures apart from take them and then upload them , 99.99999% of my pictures don't even get cropped , they are all 100% natural and untouched and then uploaded.

Fishing sounds good right about now, the largest one I ever caught, a 200 pound hammerhead shark, fighting that for 45 minutes to bring it to the boat. Totally memorable experience, just one of those things!

Television:
Analog TV signals will be switched off around Australia, region by region, by the end of 2013.
So, to keep watching you'll need to be digital ready. Many areas are already 'digital only'. In some areas (ie remote and difficult reception capability regions), will have access to satellite transmission.
Radio:
Radio transmission is going the same way, although only currently available in city areas.
Australia has adopted a unique DAB+ format for radio, so receivers with the designation of DAB will not work here. Initially few models and brands were available for the Australian market and were rather expensive, however there is now a wide selection available with correspondingly lower prices.
You can however listen to Australian stations on DAB+ radio here on your computer!

Reethi Beach, our first visit back to the Maldives since we dipped our toes into the water so to speak in 1996 to Thudufushi. After getting some more experience diving in the UK and on a couple of trips to Thailand I decided that warm water diving was for me, and there is no easier diving in the world than on the Maldives. The islands are usually quite small so after breakfast you just wander down to the Dive Centre, the staff will have put all your dive gear on the boat, all you have to do is turn up and go diving!
I would say Reethi Beach is at the budget end of Maldivian islands but as with most islands whatever level you are at it can be enough. Just being in the Maldives is enough, the whole vibe is just amazing. I guess the worst bit for us was the room, the tin roof was pretty noisy when it rained and there we had some scurrying furry creatures in the roof that can keep you awake at night. A good dive and snorkelling island though and there are a lot of repeaters here who love this place.....then again there are repeaters on every island!
I have started using a more impressionistic style to my photographs lately, I try to bring out the feeling of the place by varying the post processing effects that I use. To be honest I find it absolutely amazing what can be pulled from a pretty poor image these days by utilising current image manipulation techniques. The only slight problem is it takes time, something none of us have enough of, but I must say the final results are well worth the effort.
The thing we love the most about Maldives holidays is the mornings.....without a doubt the best time of the day. We are up at dawn for a run around the island and to see the sun come up. We usually have the whole island to ourselves at this time of day, it's just so calm and peaceful. Then it's into the bathwater temperature ocean for a snorkel before a well earned breakfast.....the best meal of the day.
The climate is perfect this time of year, you just have to put up with a few stray showers. For a chill out holiday the temperatures are absolutely perfect in the Maldives, around 30 degrees, day and night. The evenings are slightly balmy.....perfect for the tee shirt, shorts and the 'no news no shoes' uniform of the Maldives. Even the water is 30 degrees.....and it is the same 30 metres down, maybe dipping to 28 degrees on a cool day. This area of the world is just stunning, there is nowhere else like it. Absolute heaven!

Using Lab Color mode, in Photoshop (Image>Mode>Lab Color), I used a Curves layer to force the colors of this clover-like lifeform further apart for emphasis.
[ I might have used a Hue/Saturation Layer for "Transport" ;-) ]

This is a view of pattern in a macro taken at the Cobalt Gallery in Tubac. The original photo was a bit too soft, so I decided to add curves, ink outines and change the levels a bit to bring out the pattern.
Eerie & amazing colors briefly appeared late one mid-Winter day, delivering this one-off opportunity. There's no image manipulation, just an amazingly golden slash of sunlight during an otherwise-gloomy WestCoast sunset .. then POOF it was gone. When downloading the photo, I was absolutely struck by the quality of the light. Foreground is the Iona Island sewage treatment pond, adjacent to Vancouver International Airport, YVR. This is at Iona Regional Park, a prime but sometimes quite *scented* spot for birding and bird photography.

Zoé Duchesne is a Canadian artist who has worked as a model on the international stage for the last 15 years. She has traveled the world representing the most prestigious brands, and now shares her time between Montreal and Paris.
In her late 20s, Duschesne’s love for the camera led her to acting. Before long, she recognized that aspiring actresses are treated much like models, relying on whoever wants to film them. She realized that creating was crucial to her development and so Poupée was born; a moving and crude character poetically embodying the artist’s emotional and psychological experiences.
Poupée is a broad self-portrait of short films and photographs. This standalone project can also be incorporated in live performance art. Borrowing elements from silent film, theatre of the grotesque and visual arts, the works in this series are a symbolic representation of humans’ existential crisis and inevitable loss of innocence. Together, these films and photographs constitute a powerful exhibit echoing phenomena from our consumerist society, such as the reign of image, body worship and hypersexualization. Intimate, witty and touching, Duchesne explores the anxiety stemming from these phenomena and tells of the inevitable path leading to her own rebirth.
A self-taught artist, Duchesne produces her work in a traditional manner. She does not use any artifices or image manipulation techniques typically found in the fashion photography world.

Modern web browsers can take a Scaleable Vector Graphics (SVG) file as the source (src) in the IMG tag, and SVG files are text files in XML structure. Since SVG files are text files and not checkdigited or anything they're easy to edit. All you have to do once edited is precede the XML text with 'data:image/svg+xml,' (without the quotes) and lo! put the text in the src attribute of the IMG tag and it'll render, and automatically size proportionally, within the IMG element.
This holds great possibilities for image manipulation, not least because Adobe Illustrator can create SVG files from an image-traced raster image (Jpeg or whatever) and it puts all the colours within a STYLE block.
The graphic you see here has been made using this technique, using my latest software, the SVG Modder, using parameters: number of ranges: 21. Most colourful, yellow bias.
Early days with this but the possibilities are surely very promising.
Although I wrote the software I don't exactly understand what's going on, as regards the colour conversions, I understand the logic of the code, because otherwise I wouldn't have been able to design it, but I couldn't possibly predict what effect that will have. Next stage, at some point, one of the many next stages, will be to get the code to explain itself - may sound a bit creepy but isn't necessarily so hard to set up. Then I might understand it a little better.
I don't know how many other people are working on code-generated images like this. A woman on the radio in January 2018 referred to it as a medium in connection with an exhibition of drawings at Camberwell College of Art, but I got the impression she thought it was more an idea than what many are actually doing.
