This set of four images of the saucer magnolia in my driveway were done by the light of my off-camera flash, softened with a semi-inflated plastic Walmart shopping bag. I gathered the opening around the flash while encouraging the bag to stay as air-filled as possible.. like a big pillow/bubble... which I would hold wherever I wanted the soft light to come from. All educated guesswork, since I couldn't see the results before the shot, but could adapt by checking the review screen on the camera. I used the 18-55mm kit lens set toward the wider-angled end to get a more intimate perspective.

Some tonal tweaking and selective sharpening done in Photoshop.

In this image manipulation, we have used some of trhe basic image manipulation techniques- #ClippingPath, #ImageMasking, Blending, #ColorCorrection, Exposing, Effect etc.

Captain Jack Sparrow will be commandeering the Port as well. The ol' scallywag that he is. According to verifiable sources: " It is my intention to commandeer one of the ships, take you as some of my crew, raid, pillage, plunder and otherwise pilfer my weaselly black guts out. Okay, maybe not that last part. I don't think anyone wants to see that, savvy?"

"Gentlemen, m'lady...you will always remember this as the day that you almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow!"

Rolling in over my attempts at creating more images for my new series. I like this, but it doesnt work for the series.

3 photos blended together in PS.

18/52 for the group 52 of 2012

This week's theme was: Lights

Also 18/52 for the group T189ers weekly alphabet challenge.

I normally try to take two separate shots. In fact the different themes usually mean that I have to anyway, however, I don't have much time this week, so I'm pleased to say that this shot fits perfectly for both because the T189ers weekly challenge is "I is for image manipulation".

I took the shot using manual settings because the camera kept over-exposing the ball. I also used the timer so I could photograph my own hands. :) The shot was in RAW, so I processed two versions, one with the white balance correct for the hands and sweater and the other a slightly brighter version with the white balance set to make the lemon yellow of the ball into a more golden glow.

Both images were then combined in PhotoShop Elements by copying and pasting the version that was correct for the hands over the top of the more orangey version. I deleted parts of the top layer and also tweaked the curves to brighten the image a little just around where the light from the ball was falling onto my hands.

Details and History

The Wikimedia Commons website offers a multitude of historical images with no restrictions on use. This 1883 stereoview shows a busy street in Bismarck, Dakota Territory (now North Dakota). The city was founded barely a decade before but became an important freight transportation center after the Black Hills gold fields were discovered in 1874.

Technical trivia

Contrast was enhanced using Jeff Masamori's quick method (generate a copy, equalize histogram, then blend with the original). Subsequent image manipulations and animated gif generation done with StereoPhotoMaker, a freeware program by Masuji Suto & David Sykes.

These 6 images were made possible through a collaboration of rita_vazquez and myself. She was gracious enough to give me permission to borrow sections from her brilliantly shot set of photographs entitled "Chihuly Garden & Glass", which appears in her photo stream. You can view the set by clicking on the link below;

Colour splash edit, two layers with one alpha channel done in GNU Image Manipulation Program. Shot through window, not as sharp as I would have liked. 3/4 crop.

Subject: Half

This is two halves of identical twin, aligned and joined together. There was a bit of image manipulation to get them to come together. Can you see how similar they are? Even with their second teeth, they are coming through at similar times.

I had a couple of different shots for this week, I might post one or more of the alternatives later. This one was the obvious shot with identical twins. However, trying to get similar expressions with 6 1/2 yr olds was impossible.

I'm not sure I like the result or not, more interesting than successful. What do you think? Can you tell which is which?

Group: Project 52 - 2014 Ellenburg Photography

Before the explosion of Scanners,Photoshop and other image manipulation tools, I used to do collages, often using Ephemera such as this. Finding ways to isolate areas that i wanted to capture was a challenge for me back then- often leaving me frustrated with the final result.

Due to todays "Snow Day" in Chicago, and not being able to safely drive to my studio (and back) I chose to go through some older files- and ran across these beauties, that I thought I'd share w/ my flickr homies!

The other aspect to these scanned label images is their complete innocence, in the imagery displayed. For not only were these products created to "lighten" the skin of people of color (which I really don't get - White folks want to tan and look darker- people of color want to look "fairer"- ain't nobody really happy w/what they were born with!!) they were created to be marketed (a word that wasn't used back in the '40's and '50's) to a targeted audience....

Enjoy!

Zoé Duchesne is a Canadian artist who has worked as a model on the international stage for the last 15 years. She has traveled the world representing the most prestigious brands, and now shares her time between Montreal and Paris.

In her late 20s, Duschesne’s love for the camera led her to acting. Before long, she recognized that aspiring actresses are treated much like models, relying on whoever wants to film them. She realized that creating was crucial to her development and so Poupée was born; a moving and crude character poetically embodying the artist’s emotional and psychological experiences.

Poupée is a broad self-portrait of short films and photographs. This standalone project can also be incorporated in live performance art. Borrowing elements from silent film, theatre of the grotesque and visual arts, the works in this series are a symbolic representation of humans’ existential crisis and inevitable loss of innocence. Together, these films and photographs constitute a powerful exhibit echoing phenomena from our consumerist society, such as the reign of image, body worship and hypersexualization. Intimate, witty and touching, Duchesne explores the anxiety stemming from these phenomena and tells of the inevitable path leading to her own rebirth.

A self-taught artist, Duchesne produces her work in a traditional manner. She does not use any artifices or image manipulation techniques typically found in the fashion photography world.

I love long exposures, everything to do with night time, the dark, sunrise and sunset.

I like to take pictures mainly at night , sometimes during the day and in dull and fading light and I will sometimes display the time and date the picture was taken too.

I tend to take pictures of Light trails, Motorway traffic, Street lights, Buildings, Landscapes, Bokeh, Night bokeh and Hexagonal Night Bokeh in England.

All of my pictures are 100% natural and untouched in every way without ever been Photo shopped or altered or messed about with in anyway whatsoever, No multi layered photography, No HDR's and No image manipulation of any kind, all of my pictures look just the way they did when I saw them at the time of taking and I'm VERY PROUD of that.

I don't do any photo processing at all, I don't even own any photo software.

All of my starbursts are all 100% natural without using any filters or anything else, as is all my bokeh, night bokeh and hexagonal night bokeh, its all natural, no funny gimmicks at all.

I don't do anything with my pictures apart from take them and then upload them , 99.99999% of my pictures don't even get cropped , they are all 100% natural and untouched and then uploaded.

This is Cherry Knowle Mental Asylum in the North East of England designed by the Architect: George Thomas Hine it was built between 1891 - 1895 and an isolation hospital and infirmary block were added in 1902, and is 1049 ft long from end to end and with corridors over 300 ft long, its a very creepy place to be near on a dark or foggy night and i don't scare easily , patients have been know to escape form this building quite a lot , its now abandoned which i think makes it more creepy , if you go inside the place a lot of the old stuff is still left behind just as if they left in a hurry , operating tables , medical cabinets , beds , and even patients oil paintings.

This place is totally MASSIVE and it even has its own build in church ( which you can see in the picture, the bit with the tall roof) it has a swimming pool and a theatre with stage and its own morgue to store dead bodies, all of witch has been abandoned , it was abandoned in 1995 , 100 years after it opened.

This place really is MASSIVE, it goes on and on, some corridors are over 300 ft long and the building is spread 3 floors, the church alone is over 100 ft tall, its unbelievable how big this place really is, its not possible to see it all at the same time, the building goes on for about another 400 ft to the right of the church.

This has been commented on, on TV and in the news papers as been the most haunted hospital and mental asylum in the country.

On the same grounds where this stands is the new Cherry knowle mental asylum buildings that now houses all patients , them new building are a lot less creepy because they look more new ( from the 70's ) and don't look like the style of building Norman Bates lives in ( physco film ) lol.

The moment I spotted this fishing net shed I had to take a photo of it...actually I took more than a dozen and this is one of the best ;) Long exposure gives painting-like reflection for the shed, and nice texture for the water around the buoy. Photo looks pretty good in black & white as well.

8 second exposure on tripod with circular polarizer and Hoya ND400 filter. I increased contrast of the sky a bit to get the clouds more visible, and removed the cool cast given by the ND400 filter. So only a bit of image manipulation done :)

Having a bit of fun with image manipulation...my first try at it so be nice!!

Reethi Beach, our first visit back to the Maldives since we dipped our toes into the water so to speak in 1996 to Thudufushi. After getting some more experience diving in the UK and on a couple of trips to Thailand I decided that warm water diving was for me, and there is no easier diving in the world than on the Maldives. The islands are usually quite small so after breakfast you just wander down to the Dive Centre, the staff will have put all your dive gear on the boat, all you have to do is turn up and go diving!

I would say Reethi Beach is at the budget end of Maldivian islands but as with most islands whatever level you are at it can be enough. Just being in the Maldives is enough, the whole vibe is just amazing. I guess the worst bit for us was the room, the tin roof was pretty noisy when it rained and there we had some scurrying furry creatures in the roof that can keep you awake at night. A good dive and snorkelling island though and there are a lot of repeaters here who love this place.....then again there are repeaters on every island!

I have started using a more impressionistic style to my photographs lately, I try to bring out the feeling of the place by varying the post processing effects that I use. To be honest I find it absolutely amazing what can be pulled from a pretty poor image these days by utilising current image manipulation techniques. The only slight problem is it takes time, something none of us have enough of, but I must say the final results are well worth the effort.

The thing we love the most about Maldives holidays is the mornings.....without a doubt the best time of the day. We are up at dawn for a run around the island and to see the sun come up. We usually have the whole island to ourselves at this time of day, it's just so calm and peaceful. Then it's into the bathwater temperature ocean for a snorkel before a well earned breakfast.....the best meal of the day.

The climate is perfect this time of year, you just have to put up with a few stray showers. For a chill out holiday the temperatures are absolutely perfect in the Maldives, around 30 degrees, day and night. The evenings are slightly balmy.....perfect for the tee shirt, shorts and the 'no news no shoes' uniform of the Maldives. Even the water is 30 degrees.....and it is the same 30 metres down, maybe dipping to 28 degrees on a cool day. This area of the world is just stunning, there is nowhere else like it. Absolute heaven!

Impression created from a view of the lake surface, including a floating sweep of detritus ensnared in a web of underwater vegetation, and a reflection of the sky, on an afternoon walk. The vegetation, underexposed, becomes a mysterious sweep of texture, defining the foreground plane, against the reflection, which has diminishing focus from the tree branch reflection on through to the cloud-diffused sun disc.

The whole thing was another exploration of the perceptual dimensional mixup that such a view creates. Somehow, to my own eye, the "upward" curve makes the image look upside down, but it's not.. just happened to be curved in that direction.

This selfie 3-shot compilation is posted in answer to a quote theme from The Lord of the Rings for the "Me Again Monday" group. The background image is inside Canterbury Cathedral that I took last year with the SP & the floating ball taken a couple of days ago.

With a little assistance from Photoshop Elements & a whole lot of patience, "Hey presto!".

yre is a tool for producing computational artwork based on histograms of iterated chaotic functions. At the moment, it implements the Peter de Jong map in a fixed-function pipeline with an interactive GTK+ frontend and a command line interface for easy and efficient rendering of high-resolution, high quality images.

This program was previously known as 'de Jong Explorer', but has been renamed to make way for supporting other chaotic functions.

All the images you can create with this program are based on the simple Peter de Jong map equations:

x' = sin(a * y) - cos(b * x)

y' = sin(c * x) - cos(d * y)

For most values of a,b,c and d the point (x,y) moves chaotically. The resulting image is a map of the probability that the point lies within the area represented by each pixel. As you let Fyre render longer it collects more samples and this probability map and the image becomes more accurate.

The resulting probability map is treated as a High Dynamic Range image. This software includes some image manipulation features that let you apply linear interpolation and gamma correction at the full internal precision, producing a much higher quality image than if you tried to create the same effects using standard image processing tools. Additionally, Gaussian blurs can be applied to the image using a stochastic process that produces much more natural-looking images than most programs, again without losing any of the image's original precision.

this is my 3rd entry to down under challenge for image 55 posted by Claire Thomson

okay, I've had enough... the only time I seem to have time to do any image manipulation is on my lunch break at work, and my work computer can't REALLY handle running GIMP and running the stuff that I need for work. So I've been trying to get this done for two days on my lunch break... the masks wouldn't work right, the computer was being slow... so I cheated... this isn't REALLY a clone, and it's not even a very good image stitch (you can totally see the dividing line), but I promise I'll replace it later with a properly GIMPed (or photoshopped or whatever) image ;)

for the record, I first "cloned" with Micrographics Picture Publisher in the early 1990s... except it wasn't called cloning then... ;)

oh, and this is for the November Starter's Roulette - cloning.

those trees was damaged by an arson attak...

This is Cherry Knowle mental asylum in the North East of England designed by the Architect: George Thomas Hine it was built between 1891 - 1895 and an isolation hospital and infirmary block were added in 1902, and is 1049 ft long from end to end and with corridors over 300 ft long, its a very creepy place to be near on a dark or foggy night and i don't scare easily , patients have been know to escape form this building quite alot , its now abandoned which i think makes it more creepy , if you go inside the place alot of the old stuff is still left behind just as if they left in a hurry , operating tables , medical cabinets , beds , and even patients oil paintings.

This place is totally MASSIVE and it even has its own build in church it has a swimming pool and a theater with stage and its own morgue to store dead bodies, all of witch has been abandoned , it was abandoned in 1995 , 100 years after it opened.

This has been comented on, on TV and in the news papers as been the most haunted hospital and mental asylum in the country.

On the same grounds where this stands is the new Cherry knowle mental asylum buildings that now houses all patients , them new building are alot less creepy because they look more new ( from the 70's ) and don't look like the style of building norman Bates lives in ( physco film ) lol.

After 16 years abandoned, this place is no longer standing, so don't waste your time.

I must say, I'm very sad to see the old girl go.

I love long exposures, everything to do with night time, the dark, sunrise and sunset.

I like to take pictures mainly at night , sometimes during the day and in dull and fading light and I will sometimes display the time and date the picture was taken too.

I tend to take pictures of Light trails, Motorway traffic, Street lights, Buildings, Landscapes, Bokeh, Night bokeh and Hexagonal Night Bokeh in and around the North East of England.
