Alasdair is a Chocolate Lab who’s now 5 years old. “Due to a series of disasters and puppy-mill-caused allergies, he has spent far too much time wearing a variety of oversized collars,” says his dog dad, Nick. “He hates each and every one of them. In this particular photo, from about three years ago, he was recovering from surgery to remove a benign growth from his leg and destroying yet another collar.”
Nick says the vet was amazed when he asked to purchase extra collars for Alasdair. “I think it's pretty obvious why. I think we went through about a dozen with this particular surgery,” he says. “Despite his issues, his personality, which comes through in this photo, is amazing.”
Athena and Rocket-Man, seen here on their way to the beach, are a loving pair of littermates. “They love hiking, going to the river when we fish, or just laying on the sofa, watching TV with us,” says their pet parent, Mischel. “We have had Rat Terriers for the past 14 years. Once you have one, you will never have anything but a Rat Terrier. We would not trade them for the world.”
Two-year-old Flash “has the best personality,” says his dog mom, Kathy. “He’s super-easy to live with but ready at the drop of a hat to work. Flash loves to swim and run agility. I want to believe that out of all of those things, he loves me best."
Nemesis (Nemmi) and her 8-week-old puppy were trotting down the street when their pet parent Shay rescued them in 2004. Shay found a great home for the puppy, and fostered Nemmi while the Pit Bull had some parasites cleared up. “During that time I fell in love,” Shay says. “She has this thing where she holds down smaller critters, dogs and cats alike, and nibbles (grooms) them up and down with her little front teeth. It is so cute to watch.” While her cats will only put up with it for a short period of time, Shay says her hound dog “will let her do it forever.”
Rocco is an 8-year-old Golden-Lab-Chow mix. “He tolerates baths, but loves to be brushed,” says Kris, his pet parent. “I love his soft and shiny coat, and the way he will just sit and smile at you when he wants a treat.”
Tank is a 3-year-old American Pit Bull Terrier whose dog mom Christina says is “the friendliest dog I know, and loves to be around people and other animals.” The cuddler loves to sleep under the covers with his head on the pillow.

Theo is a 15-month-old Doberman-Beagle mix. “He was found tied up to a McDonald's dumpster when he was 5 months old,” says Sara, his dog mom. “We adopted him and found that he is extremely loyal and lovable. He has inspired me to start a dog-walking business and is my mascot/business partner. He's our newest family member and is more than we could have ever hoped for.“
Three-year-old Saki is unique because “she is a snuggle bug, which is rare for Shibas!” writes her dog mom, Lydia. “When my alarm clock goes off she jumps on my bed and gives me kisses till I get up!”
A dog greeted me as I got home from work today. Her name was Maggie and I found her owner two doors down...such a friendly dog.
Glacier is a 10-year-old German Short Haired Pointer-Chocolate Lab mix who has survived cancer three times. “He is most appreciative of his tummy rubs and always rolls over on his back whenever you ask if he wants one,” says his dog dad, Rich. “And even if you don't ask, he tries to finagle one out of you!”

Snickers is a 1-year-old Goldendoodle (Golden Retriever-Poodle mix), whose dog mom, Aimee, calls her “76-pound lap dog.” Aimee says he got his name “because I love Snickerdoodle cookies, which are sugar cookies with cinnamon. Snickers is white, with a light dusting of red, and he is just as sweet.”
Three-year-old Lady Bug had some problems when mange when her dog mom, Beth, and her daughter rescued her. Lady Bug is fine now and is in the process of becoming a therapy dog.
