Sargie is a 10-year-old Miniature Schnauzer. “Sargie is my little instigator – he loves to stir things up,” says his dog mom, Jennifer. Although he’s the smallest of Jennifer’s three adopted dogs – the others are a 12-year-old Bassett Hound-Rottweiler mix and a 5-year-old German Shepherd-Black Lab – Sargie thinks he’s as big as the others.“Sargie does, however, have a debilitating disorder called Canine Epileptoid Cramping Syndrome,” Jennifer says, which causes muscle cramping and seizures. Still, “He is the sweetest little guy. We call him our Little Man. He is special because he brings joy to our lives every day.”

Daisy is a 13-month-old Golden Retriever. “She loves getting baths, but hates it when she gets doggie shampoo in her eyes, so she loves wearing her doggie goggles during bath time,” says her dog mom, Florence. “She loves getting brushed every day. The thing I love most about Daisy is that she is very loving and is always begging to be petted.”

Freddy is a 10-year-old King Charles Spaniel mix rescued when he was 6 months old. “I work at a veterinary hospital so usually Freddy is excited to come to work with me,” says Chanel, his pet parent. “However, this day Freddy had a few teeth extracted and was put under anesthesia during his dental cleaning. I will tell you, the least traumatizing part was the cone of shame!” Chanel loves Freddy “because he is always sweet when you need him to be. Every night he comes up to me to cuddle or to kiss my face. If he could sleep in our bed, he definitely would!”
Max, who might be a Poodle-Schnauzer mix, was found roaming the streets earlier this year, with no collar or chip. “The vet thinks he is about 4 or 5, but Max thinks he is 2!” says his dog mom, Liz. “While Max was not trained, boy, did he know how to play fetch. Max will fetch a tennis ball anytime day or night – he never gets tired. He loves chasing tennis balls more than treats, I think.”
At the dog park a few months ago, Liz overthrew a tennis ball and it landed in a pond. “Max did not hesitate to jump in and swim after his ball,” she says. “Now, whenever we go to the dog park, he immediately runs to the water. He is a swimming fool!”

Rambo, who’s 8 years old, was adopted from Illinois Doberman Rescue when he was only 5 months old. “He had mange and was going through treatment, so he was bald in some spots when we first saw him,” says his dog mom, Dianna. “He reminded me of a cancer patient (I am a 20-year cancer survivor), so he stole my heart and we brought him home. He grew into a beautiful, loving boy and was our very first Doberman. His favorite activity is running 5K races with me!”

Nelson is a 7-month-old Toy Poodle. “He loves to snuggle with us on the couch and there's never a shortage of kisses,” says his dog mom, Elizabeth. “Even though Nelson is only 5 1/2 pounds, he's become a terrific watch dog. He is always rolling over and asking for tummy rubs. We just can't resist that adorable tummy!”
Sophia-Louise is a Pomeranian-Chihuahua mix who’s about 7 years old. Two months after her dog mom, Ann-Marie, adopted her from a rescue, she felt a tiny lump near Sophia-Louise’s lower breast. Her vet said it was a tumor, “so just to be safe, they removed her breast and biopsied the tumor. It turned out to be benign,” Ann-Marie says. “This is Sophia-Louise, after her surgery. She looked like a suffering saint! Ann-Marie says her dog “is the cutest, sassiest piece of work I ever met. People smile when they see her.”
