Cheri is a 12-year-old Rat Terrier-Jack Russell Terrier mix.

“Cheri may be a senior, but she loves to jog with me in the mornings and gladly takes all the cuddling afterward as her reward,” says Marissa, her dog mom.

“What I love mostly about Cheri is her ability to jump high like a circus dog when she gets excited to go outside or play with her bone,” Marissa says. “I also love that Cheri tears through her toys, in just one minute tops, to get to the squeaker. She always has her eye on the prize!”

Grace is 6 years old. ”We never wanted a show dog, just a couch dog, and BOY! is she a couch dog,” says her dog mom, Beth. “Not much of a watch dog, though, as she instantly loves everyone she meets." Beth says Grace’s most unique trait is that she will eat the two pills she takes daily right out of her pet parents’ hands, because she knows she’ll get a treat afterward. “She even reminds us when it is time to take her pills, because she wants her treat,” Beth says. “Silly girl!”

Tequila is a 2-year-old Indian Pariah (InDog) mix. Among her favorite things to do are fetching balls and stones, jumping through a hoop, climbing trees and running, according to Rajvi, her pet parent.

“As a puppy, she was found abandoned and was being tortured,” Rajvi says. “She grew up extremely nervous, hence aggressive. She is now much improved and has gained confidence through her agility skills. She is easily able to scale a 5-foot wall and jump down at least 8 feet. We have had to raise our boundary walls, as she easily jumps over them.”

Vader (Shal-Mars Sith Lord Darth Vader) is an 8-month-old, purebred Doberman Pinscher. “He has continued his education with certified training to be able to play and socialize with anyone and everyone, big and small,” says Candice, his dog mom. “He's quite the sweetheart and loves to play with anyone who will join him. We go on daily walks by an elementary school, and one of Vader's favorite things to do is go on the kindergartners’ slide.” This picture from last Halloween shows Vader with his favorite toy skunk.

When 3-year-old Gigi was adopted two years ago, she was “a mess, scared of everyone and everything,” says her dog mom, Stephanie. “She was a ‘pancake dog’ – she couldn't stand up when we walked her, but kind of crawled while shaking and drooling instead.” Today, Gigi works at hospitals as a therapy dog and loves playing with her two pawls, a Boston Terrier and Pit mix. “She is a total cuddlebug. Despite her 55-pound weight, Gigi loves to curl up in a ball on my lap and watch TV. She is the sweetest girl in the world,” says Stephanie.

This is Jackson and Annabelle at the dog park. Jackson, a year-old Australian Cattle Dog mix, was rescued last year from a high-kill shelter. “As you can tell by the giant tongue, he loves to give kisses!” say his pet parents, Caroline and Shaun.

Jackson is the personal trainer for Annabelle, a 6-year-old Jack Russell Terrier.

“When we got Jackson, Annabelle had been more sedentary and was up to 22 pounds,” say Caroline and Shaun. “Once Jackson came into the picture and riled her up a bit, she dropped down to 16 pounds. After a lot of tennis ball chasing, rope tug-of-wars, hiking and general rowdiness, Annabelle is up to 18 pounds (of pure muscle!) and we're still trying to put weight on Jax!”

I grew up with Cocker Spaniel's, (all of them were named Tinker) and I still love them! This is Albert... he belongs to some really nice neighbor's of mine.

Duchess is an 18-month-old, black-and-tan, pure-bred Dobie. “She is bossed around the house by Kitty and loves to chase spiders,” says Kimberly, her pet parent. “We adopted this little girl from a family who left her alone outside. Now she spends her days lounging on the chaise lounge by the fireplace!” Kimberly says Duchess “drinks up my hot tea when I’m not watching, enjoys the broccoli under the table from my son and loves us unconditionally…as we do her!”

Kimberly says that in this photo, Duchess is saying, “What do you mean I can’t eat your yogurt? I can if you set it down….”

“This is ‘Santa Liza,’ my silly Dobergirl, at 7 months old,” says her dog mom, Karen. Liza, a purebred Doberman, is now 10½ years old. Karen says that when she needs cheering up, Liza kneels down and buries her head between her front paws, with her rear end still up, and wiggles her whole body at the same time. Of course I start cracking up laughing. The more I laugh, the harder she wiggles. Then I end up on the floor, with her showering me with ‘Doberkisses.’”

Rocky is a 2½-year-old Morkie (Yorkie-Maltese mix). “Rocky is very long and lean, but we love his cute belly because it always looks chubby,” say his pet parents, Nicole & Tyler. “He likes to sleep on his back and show off his belly.” Rocky also likes to go for walks and chase birds and rabbits. “He shows his affection for us constantly by giving kisses and snuggling with us. He is a very loveable dog.”

Rufus is a 10-year-old Pug who recently had surgery to remove mast cell tumors from his muzzle and belly. “He was so sad with this cone on, he wouldn't even sit down for two hours,” says Gina, his dog mom. “I gave in and took it off, and thankfully he has left his incisions alone so far.” Gina says Rufus was her and her husband’s first “baby,” but he adapted well after the couple had twins. “Since caring for twin babies was so demanding, I had to resort to petting him with my feet -- they were the only free ‘hands’ I had available!” Gina says. “He now sits down in front of people, waiting to be petted by their feet. He thinks this is normal. This is only one of the reasons why I love him so much!”

Toodles is a 3-year-old yellow Lab rescued a year ago from a hoarder situation. “When the police officer opened the front door and let out a few dogs, Toodles immediately came and stood by my side,” said her pet parent, Casey. “For three straight hours she went where I went, helping me locate puppies in the home and getting the bigger dogs to trust me into getting them out of that horrible situation.”

Toodles had mange, heartworms, fleas and other problems, but has completely recovered and is healthy and happy. “I am a massage therapist, and she goes with me and sits at the end of my table when I am working on a client. She has a wonderful calming energy, and has really helped a few of my clients heal so much faster than if I was working alone,” Casey said.

Meet the adorable labrador pup Sky - nine weeks old when these photos were taken.

Soon after Tilson, a Border Collie, was adopted, “she apparently fractured her toe chasing the cats (caught it on a doorframe, maybe?)” says her pet parent, Marty. “Here she is at her most miserable after they amputated her toe. The good news is that a few years later we are now in hot pursuit of our agility dog championship and she doesn't miss the toe at all.”

Bogart is a 4-year-old Beagle. “Bo’s eyes are so adorable and can work magic,” says his dog mom, Kelly. “All he has to do is flaunt them right, and he can get about anything he wants! Bo is a puppy that never grew up. He’s young at heart and always ready to play. He has an iron stomach and is the winner of several dog eating contests, including everything from hot dogs to pies! He snores louder than anyone I have ever met and is always is the mood for a good belly rub. By far, he is the best friend a girl could have!”

Two-year-old Freddie, aka Fredley, Fredward and the Gremlin, joined Hayley’s family almost a year ago. “He chews my clothes up, roughhouses with my two other dogs and, every once in a while, decides to pee on the carpet,” Hayley says. “He is not perfect, but that is why he fits in this family perfectly. I love how he sleeps under the covers with me every night, how he looks like a praying mantis whenever he ‘attacks’ his biscuits, how he zooms around the house in random spurts of energy, but most of all, how he sticks his pink little tongue out whenever he's concentrating on something too hard. “
