ENG: The Franciscan monastery church in Klosterstraße in Berlin's Mitte district is the ruin of a church dating back to 1250. Today it offers a view of one of Berlin's greatest landmarks. The television tower!
The ruins of the monastery church are located in a green area. Around 1270 the Franciscans introduced brick as a building material in Berlin with this construction. On the former monastery grounds, Berlin's elite school was established in 1574 with the grammar school "Zum Grauen Kloster", where Fontane and Bismarck, among others, studied. From the inside, the church was certainly one of the most beautiful churches in the city until it was badly damaged in the war. Its ruin is a memorial against the war. The walls are often used for art exhibitions, mostly sculptures.
GER: Die Franziskaner-Klosterkirche in der Klosterstraße im Berliner Stadtteil Mitte ist die Ruine eines bis auf das Jahr 1250 zurückgehenden Gotteshauses. Heute gibt sie den Blick auf eines der größten Berliner Wahrzeichen frei. Der Fernsehturm!
In einer Grünanlage befindet sich die Ruine der Klosterkirche. Um 1270 führten die Franziskaner mit diesem Bau den Backstein als Baumaterial in Berlin ein. Auf dem ehemaligen Klostergelände entstand 1574 mit dem Gymnasium "Zum Grauen Kloster" Berlins Eliteschule, in der unter anderem Fontane und Bismarck lernten. Von innen war die Kirche gewiss eine der schönsten Kirchen der Stadt, bis sie im Krieg schwer beschädigt wurde. Ihre Ruine ist ein Mahnmal gegen den Krieg. In den Mauern werden des öfteren Kunstausstellungen, meist Skulpturen, gezeigt. Die Ruine ist öffentlich und somit auch frei zugänglich.

My original photo was a spontaneous handheld iPhone shot. I think I did a pretty good job of holding still through the long exposure, but not good enough to capture the details of the clouds and halo around the almost-full moon. The iPhone night mode comes out too light, and the colors get saturated when the exposure is toned down. Still, i liked the Van Gogh-like colors of the sky. Finally, I thought this would be a good subject for the Prisma AI app, and was pleased to see what several did with moon and sky. This was my favorite. Perfect for Sliders Sunday.

From September 2020 in between the lockdowns an evening on a Timeline event which was very welcome and well run.
ENG: The Old Town of Lübeck is the historic city center of Lübeck and the first German area monument of the UNESCO World Heritage. It is located on a densely built-up island of about 150 hectares surrounded by watercourses and the remains of the ramparts, which was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List at the end of 1987. This historic island between the Trave River and the Elbe-Lübeck Canal is surrounded by the remains of the medieval city walls with the preserved city gates of Burgtor and Holstentor. The early modern fortifications and port facilities of the 19th century with the Wallhalbinsel also belong to the city center. The view of the old town is dominated by the Seven Towers of the five main Protestant churches of the Old Town Island (inner city churches). The street view is characterized by numerous gabled houses of different eras, including brick Gothic. Behind the gabled houses are typically the Lübeck corridors and courtyards.

GER: Die Lübecker Altstadt ist der historische Stadtkern von Lübeck und das erste deutsche Flächendenkmal des UNESCO-Welterbes. Sie liegt auf einer rund 150 Hektar großen, von Wasserläufen und den Resten der Wallanlagen umgebenen dicht bebauten Insel, die Ende 1987 von der UNESCO in die Liste des Weltkulturerbes aufgenommen wurde. Diese historische Insel zwischen der Trave und dem Elbe-Lübeck-Kanal ist von den Resten der mittelalterlichen Stadtmauer mit den erhaltenen Stadttoren Burgtor und Holstentor umgeben. Die frühneuzeitlichen Befestigungswerke und Hafenanlagen des 19. Jahrhunderts mit der Wallhalbinsel gehören ebenfalls zur Innenstadt. Die Ansicht der Altstadt wird durch die Sieben Türme der fünf evangelischen Hauptkirchen der Altstadtinsel (Innenstadtkirchen) geprägt. Die Straßenansicht wird durch zahlreiche Giebelhäuser verschiedener Epochen geprägt, darunter auch der Backsteingotik. Hinter den Giebelhäusern schließen sich typischerweise die Lübecker Gänge und Höfe an.

This beautiful town hall from about 1240 of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck has been responsible for the fate of the city for almost 800 years. It is one of the most famous brick Gothic buildings and it is one of the largest medieval town halls in Germany. Unfortunately, because of the Corona Ordinances, no building tours were allowed during my visit. So I had to be content with the entrance area as well as the exterior view.

GER: Zu sehen ist das Lübecker Rathaus und seine offene Halle unter dem Langen Haus mit der neugotischen Arkade.
Dieses wunderschöne Rathaus von etwa 1240 der Hansestadt Lübeck ist seit fast 800 Jahre für die Geschicke der Stadt zuständig. Es zählt zu den bekanntesten Bauwerken der Backsteingotik und es ist eines der größten mittelalterlichen Rathäuser in Deutschland. Wegen der Corona Verordnungen durften bei meinen Besuch leider keine Gebäude Führungen stattfinden. So mußte ich mich mit dem Eingangsbereich sowie der Aussenansicht begnügen.
ENG: The underground station "Rotes Rathaus" is one of the two newest open underground stations in the Berlin district Mitte of the same name. It is part of the extension of the U5 underground line from Hönow deep in the east of the city beyond Alexanderplatz to Brandenburg Gate and on to the terminus at Hauptbahnhof. The construction had its ground-breaking ceremony in 2010 and it has now been ceremoniously opened on 4 December 2020 at 12 noon. The second new station also opened on 4 December and is called "Unter den Linden". The third and last new station will then be called "Museumsinsel" and is scheduled to open in mid-2021.

GER: Der U-Bahnhof „Rotes Rathaus“ ist einer von zwei der neusten offenen U-Bahnhöfe im Berliner Ortsteil Mitte des gleichnamigen Bezirks. Er ist Teil der Verlängerung der U-Bahn-Linie U5 von Hönow tief im Osten der Stadt über den Alexanderplatz hinaus zum Brandenburger Tor bis zur Endstation Hauptbahnhof. Der Bau hatte seinen ersten Spatenstich 2010 und er wurde nun am 4. Dezember 2020 um 12 Uhr feierlich eröffnet. Der zweite neue Bahnhof eröffnete ebenfalls am 04.12. und trägt den Namen „Unter den Linden“. Der dritte und letzte neue Bahnhof wird dann den Namen „Museumsinsel“ haben und soll Mitte 2021 erst eröffnen.

On the weekend of Whitsun I allowed myself and my family a little rest at the Baltic Sea and on the way back I made a detour to the sculpture park Katzow.
The Katzow Sculpture Park is one of the largest in Europe with over 100 sculptures on an area of 20 hectares. It is located just outside Katzow in the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald. Sculptures by almost 100 artists from 23 countries can be found here in the Vorpommern landscape between Greifswald and Wolgast. The predominant material is wood and steel. Some of the sculptures have a dead weight of 20 tons and reach a height of 18 m. Thus they form a contrast to the wide landscape in which they stand.

Am Pfingstwochenende habe ich mir mit meiner Familie ein wenig Erholung an der Ostsee gegönnt und auf dem Rückweg einen Abstecher zum Skulpturenpark Katzow gemacht.
Der Skulpturenpark Katzow ist mit über 100 Skulpturen auf einer Fläche von 20 ha einer der größten in Europa. Er befindet sich etwas außerhalb von Katzow im Landkreis Vorpommern-Greifswald. Skulpturen von fast 100 Künstlern aus 23 Ländern, stehen hier in der vorpommerschen Landschaft zwischen Greifswald und Wolgast. Das vorwiegende Material ist Holz und Stahl. Die Skulpturen haben teilweise ein Eigengewicht von 20 t und erreichen eine Höhe von 18 m. Damit bilden sie einen Gegensatz zur weiten Landschaft, in der sie stehen.
ENG: I have seen and found this bear on a building facade in the Nikolaiviertel in Berlin's real center. The bear looks here so beautiful to the TV tower and that 24x7. ☻ He has virtually always a watchful eye on Berlin's largest landmark.

GER: Gesehen und gefunden habe ich diesen Bär an einer Gebäudefassade im Nikolaiviertel in Berlins echter Mitte. Der Bär schaut hier so schön zum Fernsehturm und das 24x7. ☻ Er hat quasi immer ein wachsames Auge auf Berlins größtes Wahrzeichen.
ENG: Welcome to the new year! ☻ You can see the Berlin Reichstag building with a christmas tree.
We have made yesterday equal times a New Year's walk through Berlin's center. Past the Red City Hall, where the Christmas market Ferris wheel still turns, further "Unter den Linden" to the "Tiergarten" and back to the Suburban train station „Friedrichstraße“. The small about 5 kilometers long City Walk was nevertheless very relaxing. Since it was just wonderful to watch the many tourists and to discover his own city times again.

GER: Willkommen im neuen Jahr! ☻ Zu sehen ist der Berliner Reichstag mit Tannenbaum.
Wir haben gestern gleich mal einen Neujahrs Spaziergang durch Berlins Mitte gemacht. Vorbei am Roten Rathaus, wo sich immer noch das Weihnachtsmarkt Riesenrad dreht, weiter „Unter den Linden“ bis zum „Tiergarten“ und zurück zum S-Bahnhof Friedrichstraße. Der kleine etwa 5 Kilometer lange City Walk war doch sehr entspannend. Da es einfach herrlich war, die vielen Touristen zu beobachten und seine eigene Stadt mal wieder zu entdecken.
ENG: Last weekend was an excursion day again for a long time. This time we went to the surrounding countryside, to the small town of Werder with its wonderful little island. It is not far from the state capital Potsdam in Brandenburg and directly on the Havel river. The weather was not very warm at 4 °C, but we had peace and quiet and very few people around us.
The trestle windmill is part of the historic silhouette of the island and reminds us of times when there were several of them here. Mills were allowed to be built in the town of Werder as early as 1500. The last of the three windmills on the island was still in operation until 1949 and ensured that the people of Werder could have their little grain ground during the famine years after the war. At the end of 1973, there was a fire and the windmill was irretrievably lost. But the inhabitants of the island were not deterred and built a new one of equal value. The windmill was reopened and turned its blades again in 1993 for the May festival.

GER: Am letzten Wochenende war seit langem mal wieder ein Ausflugstag. Diesmal ging es ins Umland und zwar zu der kleinen Stadt Werder mit seiner wundervollen kleinen Insel. Diese liegt unweit der Landeshauptstadt Potsdam in Brandenburg und direkt an der Havel. Das Wetter war mit 4 °C jetzt nicht gerade sehr warm, aber dafür hatten wir unsere Ruhe und sehr wenig Menschen um uns herum.
Die Bockwindmühle gehört zur historischen Inselsilhouette und erinnert an Zeiten, als es hier mehrere davon gab. Schon seit 1500 durften in der Stadt Werder Mühlen errichtet werden. Die letzte von ehemals drei Bockwindmühlen allein auf der Insel war noch bis 1949 in Betrieb, sorgte dafür, dass die Werderaner in den Hungerjahren nach dem Krieg ihr weniges Korn mahlen lassen konnten. Am Ende des Jahres 1973 gab es ein Brand und die Windmühle war unwiederbringlich verloren. Aber die Einwohner der Insel ließen sich nicht beirren und erbauten sich eine gleichwertige neue. Diese drehte dann zur Wiedereröffnung ihre Windblätter im Jahre 1993 zum Maifest erneut.

Over the thumb, the region Timmendorf is ehr something extravagant and requires a larger purse. Nice side effect is that you get a very nice beach head cinema offered with so many Pimped'People. ☻ Since 2011, the new approximately 150-meter-long Seeschlösschen Bridge now exists. At the bridgehead, a 36 by 16 meter platform was erected, on which a pagoda-shaped building was erected, that Mikado teahouse. Partial areas of the floor are made of glass and allow a view of the sea below, as well as a ship dock on the side. Currently, the teahouse houses a restaurant called "Cloudless".

GER: Wie man ja feststellen kann, war ich dieses Jahr ein wenig auf Seebrücken Jagd in der Lübecker Bucht. So führte mich der Weg von Tag zu Tag anfangs von Travemünde zum hier abgebildeten Timmendorfer Strand über Scharbeutz nach Kellenhusen.
Übern Daumen gepeilt, ist die Region Timmendorf ehr etwas extravagant und bedarf eines größeren Geldbeutels. Netter Nebeneffekt ist dabei aber, dass man ein sehr schönes Strand-Kopf-Kino geboten bekommt bei so vielen Pimped‘People. ☻ Seit 2011 existiert nun die neue rund 150 Meter lange Seeschlösschenbrücke. Am Brückenkopf wurde eine 36 mal 16 Meter große Plattform errichtet, auf der ein Gebäude in Pagodenform errichtet wurde, dass Mikado-Teehaus. Teilflächen des Fußbodens bestehen aus Glas und ermöglichen den Blick auf das darunterliegende Meer sowie ein seitlicher Schiffsanleger. Aktuell beherbergt das Teehaus ein Restaurant namens „Wolkenlos“.

The top sight of Würzburg. The Marienberg Fortress is a former hilltop castle and a former prince-bishop's palace on the Marienberg 100 meters above the river Main in Würzburg with its vineyard slope. It also bears the name Festung Unser Frauen Berg. An older designation of the fortress, which served as the seat of the former government of the Würzburg high monastery until the 18th century, was Marienberg Castle. The fortress was rebuilt several times in the course of history. The oldest still preserved parts are from 704 (late Bronze Age), the small Marienkirche.

Die top Sehenswürdigkeit von Würzburg. Die Festung Marienberg ist eine ehemalige Höhenburg und ein ehemaliges fürstbischöfliches Schloss auf dem Marienberg 100 Meter oberhalb des Flusses Mains in Würzburg mit seinen Weinrebenhang. Sie trägt auch den Namen Festung Unser Frauen Berg. Eine ältere Bezeichnung der bis ins 18. Jahrhundert als Sitz der ehemaligen Regierung des Hochstift Würzburgs dienenden Anlage war Schloss Marienberg. Die Festung wurde im Laufe der Geschichte mehrfach umgebaut. Die ältesten noch erhaltenen Teile sind von 704 (späten Bronzezeit), die kleine Marienkirche.

ENG: Today there was a small 4 kilometer Advent walk in Hobrechtsfelde to enjoy the first snowfall. This place is located just behind the city border of Berlin to Brandenburg.
Since 1985 the sewage fields around Hobrechtsfelde lie unused. Now a recreational area for people as well as a retreat for animals and plants is gradually being created in the area where Berlin's sewage was trickled away for about 100 years; it is now referred to as the landscape of the Barnim Nature Park.

GER: Heute gab es einen kleinen 4 Kilometer Adventsspaziergang in Hobrechtsfelde um den ersten Schneefall zu genießen. Dieser Ort liegt direkt hinter der Stadtgrenze von Berlin zu Brandenburg.
Seit 1985 liegen die Rieselfelder um Hobrechtsfelde ungenutzt brach. Nun entsteht in dem Gebiet, wo rund 100 Jahre lang das Berliner Abwasser verrieselt wurde, nach und nach ein Erholungsgebiet für Menschen sowie ein Rückzugsgebiet für Tiere und Pflanzen, man spricht jetzt von der Landschaft des Naturparks Barnim.
ENG: Currently, a fantastic laser and video projection on the Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-House is running in Berlin's government district. The 40-minute documentary on the subject of "The German People - The Reichstag" is really interesting and a feast for the eyes. It always starts when it begins to get dark. Admission is free and the whole thing is to go until October 3, 2021.

GER: Aktuell läuft eine fantastische Laser und Video Projektion am Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-Haus im Berliner Regierungsviertel. Die etwa 40 minütige Dokumentation zum Thema „Dem deutschen Volke - Der Reichstag“ ist wirklich interessant umgesetzt und ein kleines Fest fürs Auge. Los geht es immer, wenn es anfängt dunkel zu werden. Der Eintritt ist frei und das ganze soll bis zum 3. Oktober 2021 gehen.
ENG: The castle gate in Lübeck, built in late Gothic style in 1444, is the northern gate of the former four city gates of the Lübeck city fortifications and, along with the Holsten Gate, the only one that is still preserved today. It takes its name from the old Lübeck castle, situated high above the Trave River, which was converted into the Burgkloster in 1227. The passage was widened in 1850 and most recently in 1928, as well as expanded to four instead of three culverts.

GER: Das im spätgotischen Stil 1444 erbaute Burgtor in Lübeck ist das nördliche von ehemals vier Stadttoren der Lübecker Stadtbefestigung und neben dem Holstentor das einzige, welches noch heute erhalten ist. Es hat seinen Namen nach der alten, hoch über der Trave gelegenen Lübecker Burg, die 1227 zum Burgkloster umgebaut wurde. Die Durchfahrt wurde 1850 und zuletzt 1928 verbreitert sowie auf vier statt drei Durchlässen erweitert.
ENG: Actually, we wanted to go to the castle Henneberg (also called Alsterschlösschen) in the northwest of Hamburg, but unfortunately it was closed. This castle is a replica of the castle Henneberg from Thuringia. So the visit in Hamburg-Poppenbüttel (Wandsbek) was for nothing. But quite without photo successes I wanted to move now not from then and so the photo came from the pedestrian bridge to the suburban train station Poppenbüttel to stand.

GER: Eigentlich wollten wir zur Burg Henneberg (auch Alsterschlösschen genannt) im Nordwesten Hamburgs, nur leider war diese geschlossen. Diese Burg ist eine Nachbildung der Burg Henneberg aus Thüringen. So war der Besuch in Hamburg-Poppenbüttel (Wandsbek) umsonst. Aber ganz ohne Fotoerfolge wollte ich nun nicht von dannen ziehen und so kam das Foto von der Fußgängerbrücke zum S-Bahnhof Poppenbüttel zu Stande.

Genesis is alpha, Apocalypse omega. But Hebrews is the hinge that joins the other two together. Genesis says that we began in a swamp teeming with life, but that something went vastly wrong one evening at dinner. Apocalypse says that the difficulty was finally resolved into something called the Banquet of the Lamb. Hebrews tell how the resolution was accomplished, not in an orchard set in pleasant countryside but in a butcher shop located in the city's center. The World's story from beginning to end pivots upon this resolution, a resolution the faint of heart, the fastidious, and the squeamish find hard to bear.

ENG: The temperatures are currently very good here in Berlin and yet it rains from time to time. Our nature is in dire need of it. Like last weekend at the Charité Campus Virchow Hospital. So this close-up of the raindrops on my windshield was made.

GER: Die Temperaturen sind aktuell sehr gut hier in Berlin und trotzdem regnet es ab und zu. Unsere Natur hat das ja auch bitter nötig. So wie am letzten Wochenende mal wieder am Charité Campus Virchow Krankenhaus. So kam auch diese Nahaufnahme die Regentropfen auf meiner Windschutzscheibe zustande.
