Een grote oefening in het Erasmus MC moet het personeel voorbereiden op de behandeling van patiënten met het ebolavirus. Dat is één van de maatregelen die ziekenhuizen in Rotterdam nemen om straks niet verrast te worden door de gevaarlijke ziekte.
Een dag lang zal er worden geoefend met een neppatiënt die het ebolavirus onder de leden heeft. Alle betrokkenen doorlopen tijdens de oefening het proces van de diagnose tot aan de behandeling.
"Hoewel de kans klein is dat er zich daadwerkelijk een Nederlandse ebolageval voordoet, is het wel belangrijk om met zijn allen de hele cyclus een keer te testen", zegt viroloog Ab Osterhaus van het Erasmus MC.
"Bij besmettelijke ziektes als het ebolavirus is het belangrijk om direct contact tussen patiënt en verpleging te beperken", vervolgt de viroloog. "Mensen die bij een ebolapatiënt naar binnen gaan, moeten bijvoorbeeld eerst door verschillende afgesloten ruimtes heen, zodat het overdragen van het virus uitgesloten is."
Nog geen ebola gesignaleerd
Op dit moment is het virus nog niet gesignaleerd in Nederland. Maar omdat het in delen van Afrika heerst, heeft het Havenziekenhuis (bekend om zijn deskundigheid op het gebied van tropische ziekten) alle afdelingen gewaarschuwd alert te zijn op mensen met de symptomen van ebola. Met name bij de spoedeisende hulp zijn de medewerkers extra alert.

Jonathan and Gary didn't QUITE fit in the back of the loaner car, which has kid seats in the back. We had to test it out after lunch at Rudy's.
This afternoon we shot a hyperlapse of the Zero Energy Lab over at Disco Park. I think it'll be pretty nice!
After work I got my car back from Tesla. There were a bunch of dudes there from other centers. A new SuperCharger is opening next week so they've got extra people in town. A few guys were in from the Denver store, and guess what--they totally remembered me! Last time I was in Denver with Andy I drug him to the store after shooting, and we spent over an hour there carrying my camera around the store.

This evening I met up with Ahna to shoot a hyperlapse of the Campus Theater again. Thin Line ended today, and I’d hoped to get a nice shot of the crowd coming out. Not only was the weather crappy, but the “N” in “THIN” on the marquee had fallen down, too. It looks like it says “THIW LINE,” which is totally dumb. So I just shot a few stills instead.
I ended up at Abbey Inn with Ahna, her Gary, and Erica. Emily had already thrown some tacos on at home, so I just scarfed down a beer and some cheese fries to hold me over while we visited. I told them how Emily and I found a house on Zillow that we’re checking out tomorrow. Might be a serious look!
