The Host project suggests that for a moment we abandon our anthropomorphic worldview and think about life (well actually think about sex) from the perspective of an insect. We are invited to join an audience of 200 live crickets, who are attending a very serious scientific lecture on the sex life of insects, which we quickly realise is rather more complex and interesting than our own! One screen shows the heavily pixelated talking-head of the scientist, the other an image of an oscilloscope signal. The oscilloscope image with its crackling sound-track was obtained under laboratory conditions and is a direct recording of the electrical activity in the aural nerve centre of a cricket listening to the sex lecture. From one perspective the creature becomes a type of electro-physiological microphone—but at a deeper metaphorical level we are asked to re-consider our own perceptual assumptions about the world.

College of DuPage was the proud host of a recent 50th anniversary event for Vietnam Veterans coordinated through the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs. The event, held April 25 in Belushi Performance Hall of the McAninch Arts Center, drew hundreds veterans who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces between Nov. 1, 1955 and May 15, 1975. College of DuPage President Dr. Ann Rondeau and Board Chairman Deanne Mazzochi, along with state and military representatives presented each guest with a commemorative lapel pin.

NHS Change Day Regional Event organised by NHS East Midlands Leads and hosted by Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
Elmora School 12 hosted its annual Multicultural Show, ”One World, Many Stories” on Friday, June 5th. Parents and students in the audience danced and sang along with the performers on stage. Many standing ovations were given to the performers. Dances, poetry, and songs from all over the world were showcased. Teachers surprised the audience with a dance of many Medleys from all over the world.
The highlight of the show was the parade, where over 100 students walked into the Gym to the song “Coming to America.” Students and staff members walked in a line wearing native clothing from their country, waving the American Flag. It was an emotional and patriotic beginning. Students and parents were able to celebrate diversity, learn about other cultures, and pay tribute to this great country for educating so many children from all over the world!
