Habitat: stony roadside of a dirt road; calcareous, skeletal, stony ground, sunny and dry place, moderately inclined mountain slope, south aspect; exposed to direct rain; elevation 1.300 m (4.260 feet); average precipitations ~ 3.000 mm/year, average temperature 3-5 deg C, pre-alpine phytogeographical region.
Substratum: soil among rocks and in rock crevices.
Place: Next to the dirt road from village Livek to Mt. Matajur, near Planina Matajur, East Julian Pre-Alps, Posočje, Slovenia EC.
Comment: Saxifraga hostii ssp. hostii is an endemic member of large genus Saxifraga containing numerous marvelous, mostly alpine pants. It is actually not a true high mountains species, since it can be found fully developed and in full bloom in Trenta valley below 500 m elevation. But it also climbs to alpine elevations well above 2.000 m. Habitus, leaves and inflorescence are much similar better known Saxifraga crustata, but it is larger in all its parts. The tallest plants can be more than 50 cm high and hence belong to the tallest members of this genus in the Alps. It can be found in northeast Italy, Slovenia and south Austria. Actually it is a sub-endemic plant because one can find it also in some places of Dinaric Mountains (Ref.1.). Slightly different subspecies Saxifraga hostii ssp. rhaetica grows in a limited region of south Alps in Italy.
Flowers of Saxifraga hostii ssp. hostii are generally white, however sometimes the petals are decorated with beautiful, tiny red dots as shown in my picture. Such dots appear also on other species of this genus. Saxifraga hostii ssp hostii is a perennial plant. During the winter, if not covered by snow, its leaves get beautifully colored.

The host plant for Monarch butterflies is the Milkweed. This is where the female Monarchs lay their eggs. It is a larval food for the Monarchs. Their caterpillars feed on the plant. Then, the Milkweed poison is stored, making this butterfly poisonous to birds. Of course, the Monarch helps with the pollination process of Milkweed.

Hajvery University hosted one day National Conference on Islamic Banking & Finance. The National Conference on Islamic Banking & Finance was attended by prominent speakers who shared their views with the Audience.
The keynote speakers discussed that interest in Islamic banking has grown considerably during the last decade. The main issues of concern are the conceptual framework and viability of interest-free banking, and the assessment of its performance and future. In a world where conventional interest-based finance is the dominant framework, Islamic banking faces many challenges that must be addressed.
The purpose of the National Conference on Islamic Banking & Finance is to analyze the past experiences of Islamic banks, to provide an objective assessment of their success and failure, and to discuss the contemporary issues and challenges confronting them.

An essential feature of Islamic banking is the prohibition of interest (“riba”). The interest-free Islamic banking is based on the concept of profit-and-loss sharing, where the lender shares losses with the borrower. The question is whether this system can be relevant in the world of revolutionary, technology-driven global finance. Islamic banks mushroomed across the world. Many conventional banks nowadays have Islamic windows or separate branches that deal with Islamic financial products. The fact that Islamic banks have been around for the last decades and continue to prosper is a proof of the viability of Islamic finance in a world dominated by interest-based banking.
The Guided-missile destroyer USS Roosevelt (DDG 80) hosted the family of the ship’s namesake, May 2.
Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt’s grandson, H. Delano Roosevelt, took a tour of Roosevelt with family and friends during a scheduled port visit in Manama, Bahrain.
The tour was led by Cmdr. Jay Clark, Roosevelt’s commanding officer. Sailors from the crew gave presentations about the various departments and capabilities of the ship including bridge fundamentals, navigation, engineering, damage control, aviation, search and rescue, and visit, board, search and seizure operations.
“It was an honor and a privilege to introduce USS Roosevelt to Mr. Roosevelt,” said Cmdr. Jay Clark. “The crew, as well as myself, take immense pride in being Roosevelt Sailors. I am sure that the grandson of our namesake saw that pride and knew we were honoring the legacy Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt left behind.”
After the tour, Clark led the group into the wardroom, where officers were assembled to attend the Surface Warfare Officer (SWO) designation pinning of Chief Warrant Officer James Smith. As a surprise, Smith bestowed the honor of pinning the SWO device to Mr. Roosevelt.
“It was dynamic,” said Smith. “To have the grandson of such a great man and woman, the namesakes of our ship, perform the pinning is a once in a lifetime occurrence I will never forget.”
Following the pinning Cmdr. Clark presented Mr. Roosevelt with Roosevelt memorabilia including a signed picture of the ship. In return, Mr. Roosevelt presented Cmdr. Clark with a coin from the battleship USS Iowa, which his family has been influential in helping to restore as a historical monument in Long Beach, Calif., where H. Delano Roosevelt and his family call home.

CEA Project Logistics played host to the KONECRANES Generation C launch at their Free Trade Zone Warehouse in Laem Chabang Thailand.
The event, organised by the KC Lift Trucks division of KONECRANES drew a multinational crowd from all over Asia with more than 100 guests in attendance eager to see the next generation in lift trucks. Before the grand unveiling Patrik Lundback Regional Sales & Service Director opened proceedings by welcoming all guests and thanking them for their interest in Generation C, further adding “The Generation C lift truck is a collection of refinements and bold new technologies that improve our lift trucks in ways that make them safer, cleaner, quicker and more cost effective. We are very happy to be the first region outside of Europe and North America to launch the Generation C.”
The C series lift truck includes a completely new driver’s cabin with first-in-class features to enhance safety, comfort and productivity. The C series also boasts increased reach stacker lifting performance, an enhanced TRUCONNECT® remote monitoring system and improved engine performance. The C series is equipped with common platform diesel engines that meet emission legislation levels EU Stage II / EPA Tier 2, EU Stage IIIA / EPA Tier 3, or EU Stage IV / EPA Tier 4f. These new engines are in general several decibels more silent and can save up to 6% in fuel consumption over previous ones.
After the formalities a sumptuous buffet lunch was provided for all allowing some time for networking and the forging of new friendships. After lunch a presentation was given about Generation C to showcase the state of the art systems developed by KONECRANES which are featured in their new line of vehicles. As the unveiling grew near a traditional Thai war dance began increasing in tempo until the curtain was dropped and the guests got their first glimpse of a Generation C Reach Stacker, the unveiling was accompanied by a fantastic light and smoke show. As the smoke cleared the guests got up close and personal by being allowed on to the vehicle and into the futuristic cabin.
The new driver’s cabin offers operators class-leading spaciousness and superior visibility made possible by an even more ergonomic layout with integrated seat-mounted controls. The industry’s first 7” touch screen color display provides full truck monitoring including eco-drive, fuel management and driver login. The touch screen monitor also supports an optional integrated rear-view camera and tire pressure monitoring.
The CEA Facility was chosen as a venue due to their state of the art Air Conditioning systems installed at their Free Zone Warehouse in Laem Chabang, although temperature outside was a sweltering 36 degrees centigrade all the guests inside were enjoying a lot cooler weather!
