Home made lens made from one of the plastic plano-convex elements from a battery powered slide viewer. The lens was selotaped onto a piece of plastic tube, which in turn was placed over a narrower tube which fitted snugly into an extension tube mounted on a digital SLR. An old sock completed the assembly, providing just the right amount of friction between the two tubes to allow the outer tube to be slid backward and forward to focus. The focal length is approximately 280mm, so with the inner tube having a diameter of 40mm, this gives an aperture of around f7.

I took this series of pictures on April 28, right after the auction sale I was at. I don't know home many people I met that day that had a majority of their teeth missing.
When I pulled in to take pictures, the Terra-Gator driver turned up the same road I did, stopped because I waved, and got out. "You alright?" he asked, grinning a big ol' toothless meth-head grin.
"Yeah. I'm just going down to the river to take pictures."
"Oh. I sa' the outta-state plates an' taut-cha migh' need hep." (To translate for those that don't speak Meth-Head Hillbilly; "I saw your out of state plates and thought you might need help.")
"Nope. I'm fine. Just taking pictures."
"Okay, den. Jus' taut cha migh' need hep. Hav' a good-un."
I wonder if he was one of my cousins.
My house is buried in the deepest recess of the forest
Every year, ivy vines grow longer than the year before.
Undisturbed by the affairs of the world I live at ease,
Woodmen’s singing rarely reaching me through the trees.
While the sun stays in the sky, I mend my torn clothes
And facing the moon, I read holy texts aloud to myself.
Let me drop a word of advice for believers of my faith.
To enjoy life’s immensity, you do not need many things.

My modest house and its backyard are reputed to have a nearly 100 year history, which is a lot for a state that only became one in 1889. I have several fruit trees including the Asian Pear (always fighting Coddling Moth) and a Bing Cherry which is already in full swing by the end of June.

I am working on a project for an open exhibition that explores the topic "home".
I am looking at the journey home, taken by thousands every day. The commute is a uncomfortable and unenjoyable experience at the height of rush hour. The reason however that it is endured by so many people rather than waiting a bit to avoid it, is to get to a place they call home as quickly as possible.
I hope to take documentary style photographs to explore this rush to get home. Using repetition as a visual metaphor for the daily grind.
I know HDR is terrebly unfashionable in some circles for subjects like this *grin*. Well whatever, wanted something to remember it by, we are currently flat hunting.
