It is a sorrowful thing is it not?

when summer comes to pass

with cruel winds and driving rain

unleashed upon our paths

The trees do bare their barren souls

like blankets their leaves create a warmth

no longer basking in the summer's sun

but huddled close about their feet

The wind howls, for no man dare to wonder

and the treachery of a driving storm

brings blackened angry thunder

And yet deep inside us waits to greet

a passion so intense and strong

for is it not a creature hidden

to be unsuspectingly sprung upon?

Alas the snows have now begun

wrap warmly, keep safe and stay inside

for not before you have kissed good night

with snuggle-down cosiness can you hide

It is a sorrowful thing is not?

when summer comes to pass!

TODAY'S RANDOM FACT:

Wet ducks never fly at night.

I took my chances as she was so dozy. And covered in dust. She must have been there for at least three months. Kind of nice to see her up so close. She's at 4:1... or her head is, anyway.

for Illustration Friday

Well, no sunshine this week, rain all week long, so I guess these girls will be hibernating in the dolly house......

Everything I need for an early night. Watching Little Britain on BBC iPlayer on the iPod touch, keeping up with my friends tweets on Twitter via the PowerBook, news on the TV which I'm completely ignoring and a comfy bed which I shall soon be snoozing in.

When he comes out he will be 68 years old.

There are actually two bears in this den..can only see the one.

I suspect this is a hibernating Nigma walckenaeri but not certain yet.

I decided to only clean off one of my cars and just let this one sit until some melting has taken place. Pushing 22 inches of snow off a parked car is no picnic.

Update: I dug it out and cleared it off on Tuesday 12/22. A little melting happened Sunday and Monday, but I figured if I waited for all this to melt away I wouldn't be driving it again until the new year...

Found this Ichneumon wasp on the inside of a folded leaf in the ground leaf litter. It didn't move at all but does not look dead. Assume it must be hibernating

The ship's lobby and atrium.

the k20a of my EP3. kept away for a few months, it is starting to wake up and should be breathing fire very soon !

my final "show" for the year.

Anthill customized by bear for wintertime hibernation

Lately, Idefix has been in hibernation mode. He sleeps later and more often than usual (which is a lot!), and has become even more snugglicious than usual (which was a lot). Hey, we don't mind...

Found this group of ladybirds under a nobbly bit of a beech tree trunk. Careful searching showed several other groups too.

MKT142 waits for warmer weather

Black bears are out of hibernation here in southwestern New Hampshire and are visiting bird feeders in the neighborhood. They LOVE sunflower seeds and are reported to be able to smell them up to a mile away!
