I believe this is a Milkweed plant. All I know is, when I was a kid we used to love peeling these open and playing with the stuff inside.

The weather is ugly, life is boring and Cleo is hibernating. She has still not moved to her hibernation den in the basement, maybe she has still not given up hope that we will get some sunnier and warmer days in the near future. When I took this photo she was lying in the hallway.

I wanted to stop by to say hello, and post a little photo that I took with my new lens. Hoping to post more soon as time permits.

10/52 Weeks - Sleeping

Our garden areas are all in hibernation after several late winter snowstorms.

Hibernating in its natural habitat, waiting for the Sun to clear the snow and ice from the frozen lake. Just bushes and branches as its shield against the elements. Waiting for the owner to turn it around and bring the rows and once again it will swim freely in the water. Dreaming...

Snowed-in boats at the partly ice-covered Ishikari River, near its mouth into the Sea of Japan's Ishikari Bay (Ishikari, Hokkaido, Japan).

She knew she would miss her love this weekend while he was out of town, but she also couldn't deny the fact that she had fully planned out her time so she could simply fill it all with... doing nothing!

Winter and real frost in the Chilterns! But nature has its ways of dealing with this cold period. It has prepared already for the end of winter. It is just hibernating.

.... or greetings from the basement.

Hibernation isn't what it used to be. There were times when mom stored my cat food in a cupboard in the basement and I could have myself a snack whenever I wanted to. Opening the cupboard was easy and ripping the dry food bag open was done in 2 seconds. I don't know why but those extra kibbles always tasted better than the ones in my bowl. Life was good. That's over now because THE DIET has taken control of my life. My kibbles are locked away in what mom calls a cat-proof cupboard. No chance to get in there unless I learn to squeeze myself through a keyhole. Well, because of THE DIET I will probably soon be so thin that this will be a serious option !

Stay warm and may your food bowl be always FULL !

This tiny 1.5mm long 1st instar larva hatched on 20th July 2020 and, after eating its egg shell, went into hibernation within 24 hours of emerging. It has now been hanging in suspended animation on this piece of tree moss for 7 months (photographed on 20th Feb 2021). It should come back to life in early Spring and begin searching for fresh violets on which to feed. Hopefully, it will complete its cycle and emerge as a beautiful butterfly in mid-June. Still some considerable way to go! (2985).

Tightly curled up to keep warm - happy Caturday!

A little bit I envy these bees. I would also need more sleep in winter, but everyday life can't just be put on the sidelines like that... And your great photos always captivate me to the screen...
