Mid December and the uk Gray Squirrels arn't hibernating.

An accidental trip to Bournemouth in the fog so the light was a flat disaster, but ok for close up photography.

This squirrel looks like a gray / red mixture?

Hopefully hibernating as in one of the old pitcher plant leaves!

New years morning (2010), Aiguille du Midi, 3842m above sea level with Mt Blanc the next peak (but 1000m or so higher). You get there via cable car from Chamonix, a ride where every metre of ascent makes you appreciate the oxygen you normally take for granted. Two important realizations that day:

1. I am not as fit as I though I was. Every step forward at this altitude felt like sprinting 1 mile

2. Avoid ascending to any unnatural altitudes when you are still sleepless and hung over from new years eve partying the night before.

Anyway, once you get up there there is a second segment of the 'ride' which takes you down the other side of the mountain to Italy. This is only open during summer months and by the look of things they leave the cable cars dangling there all winter. Hence the title.

Humperdink was caught napping on my bed. He's had his penguin blanket since his first Christmas, nearly ten years ago. And yes, if I'd awakened him, he would have been a grumpy bear!
