On the trail down to Bumpass Hell - Lassen National Park.
Watch out on windy days, as the hot gas will blow over the platforms when your walking around.
An activity group were gorge walking Hell Gill's limestone Gorge. This is taken looking straight down from the bridge.
Here is a depiction of hell, from the Angkor Wat southeast gallery. The whole bas relief depicts heaven, earth and hell on 3 registers, with Yama, the judge of the dead, in the center. Hell seems to inspire the most interesting imagery (in heaven, they just sit around in palaces with servants). In this panel, the damned have been strung through their noses and are being pulled along by demons.
While walking in Singapore we noticed these drums with paper being burned and asked our taxi driver about them. He told us it was to mark the day of the year when those in Hell got a day off.

As I was looking at these, it occurred to me that if they had a name, these could easily be called Hell's Bells - as a sort of counterpoint to Bluebells... Because these are everything that Bluebells aren't... These are sharp, and menacing, and filled with jagged edges and spines... They are devoid of the pretty blue colors of the bluebell - yet they have an elegant, ethereal beauty of their own, I think... You really should check out the video next door too - it's short, but interesting, I think...

Hells Canyon National Recreation Area is a United States National Recreation Area located on the borders of the U.S. states of Oregon and Idaho. The recreation area, which is managed by the United States Forest Service as part of the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, was established by U.S. Congress in 1975 to protect the historic and archaeological values of the Hells Canyon area and the area of the Snake River between Hells Canyon Dam and the Oregon-Washington border. Roughly 215,000 acres (900 km2) of the recreation area are designated the Hells Canyon Wilderness. There are nearly 900 miles (1,400 km) of hiking trails in the recreation area. The largest portion of the area lies in eastern Wallowa County, Oregon. Smaller portions lie in southwestern Idaho County, Idaho, northwestern Adams County, Idaho, and northeastern Baker County, Oregon
