An older milkyway shot from the end of last summer I found browsing my picture library.
Fore- and background (tracked with a Vixen polarie, but poorly aligned with Polaris) were taken separately and merged in photoshop.
Catholic Sekiguchi Church, or St. Mary's Cathedral, Tokyo, Japan.
The inside is a spectacular brutalist space, with the light entering the building in a gorgeous way.
Unfortunately: photography forbidden on the inside.

This is my favorite photo of heavenly rays that were on display Friday evening on my commute across the Salish Sea.
Searching through the archives for my friend Ana...( www.flickr.com/photos/7383661@N08/ ) I found this one to wish all our Flickr friends a wonderful Easter weekend...

This image ticks a few firsts for me. It is a blend of 2 images, sky and foreground (done that a million times). Both images were taken at the same location on the same night. The difference is it is the first sky image I have taken using a star tracker. To add even more complexity, it is the first time I have used Pixel Shift on my Sony to capture a star image. The real highlight for me is I did this while on the star tracker and it worked perfectly.
The sky alone is a whopping 322MB ultra high definition image with amazing detail and sharpness. Seeing it on Flickr just doesn't do it justice but on my 4K screen it is just amazing!
It may not be the most appealing image I have done but it certainly is the most technically perfect.
Commemorative mural depicting the damaged B-17 that crashed into the Thames off Canvey Point in 1944, the pilot narrowly avoiding a residential area. Full story in the link. I salute you gentlemen.

The Milky Way shines bright over Lassen Peak as seen from the shores of Manzanita Lake. Jupiter and Saturn can be seen flanking the left and right sides, respectively, of the Milky Way's central core. A 5-day old moon provided just enough illumination for the lake, the forest, and the peak itself. Snow persists on the peak year round, and when I went at the time of this photo, many of the attractions in the southern portion of the park remained closed due to snow!
The colors of the sky are natural but enhanced to show details invisible to the unaided eye.
Image is a composite, consisting of:
* 5 tracked shots of the sky, exposed at 60" f/2.0 ISO 1600. A Star-Adventurer Mini was used for the tracking.
* 5 untracked shots of the landscape, same exposure settings.
* Dark and flat frames, to correct for vignetting and sensor noise.
All exposures were preprocessed in RawTherapee. I used Sequator to stack the tracked shots of the sky, and GIMP G'MIC plugin to stack the untracked shots. The resulting frames were then blended, processed, and finished entirely in GIMP. Overall, processing took about 14 hours of effort.
Captured via Sony a6500 and Sigma 16mm f/1.4 lens.
Thank you all for explore! This photograph was truly a labor of love and my most challenging edit to date.
On these gray, chilly days of January, any color in the landscape really pops out. This is heavenly bamboo, aka Nandina domestica, as identified by the "Seek" App that I keep on my iPhone. During my daily walks, I have added many species to my library. Just open the App, snap a picture and the plant is immediately identified. Sometimes the id's are rather vague, but when there's a brilliant bloom like this, the app has no difficulty in coming up with the right answer.

A thin layer of fog is exploded by morning winter sun as it shines through a Douglas fir forest near Portland, Oregon, creating a magical effect.
A sunburst consists of rays or "beams" radiating out from the sun in the manner of sunbeams.

My mission visiting Heidelberg was to capture the city early morning from a good vantage point along the Philosophers’ weg/walk. My research showed this other path called the snake path and being the lazy fat middle aged man that I am, I opted for what looked to be the shortest fastest route to getting my shots, the snakes path.
After finding some parking under the old town I walked across the old bridge to the other side of the river to catch the snakes head to begin what seemed like the ascent to Everest, the hill goes almost 55 degree in slope and is all stairs to the top.
About ¼ of the way up the hill I realized that the Philosophers walk was the way to go for traversing this hill it meanders in a very slow curve up the hillside whereas the snakes way is virtually straight up. After securing a vantage point ¾ of the way up the snakes path and having waited for my heart to stop hammering out of my chest I captured this image of the city and castle at 6:00am.
I took this with my D750 and Tamron SP 24-70 2.8 G2 Lens processed in LR and DXO Nik
Auroras on Iceland, on the road between Geysir and Thingvellir. The lights were actually quite dim to the naked eye, it was only on the picture that I noticed the purple auroras on the horizon.
With the magnificent Howgills on the skyline, a very late 4M48 - the southbound "Tesco" - runs down Grayrigg bank at Hardrigg on January 8 2010 behind 92017.
The colour scheme and bold lettering looked very smart, though there were a few perceived anomalies.
Firstly, the cast alloy Channel Tunnel Roundels were not removed and were left unpainted, though the lettering (which I assume were vinyl) did cover them.
Then there was the cab-sides below the windows. Had the darker blue been extended across the lower cab half with a hard edge below white windows it would have looked (IMHO) very smart, but the lighter blue with Stobart chevrons that faded to the white looked somewhat dissonant.
Also, strangely, the locomotive name was in white lettering on an almost white background which - I like to think – was to disguise the silly name.
The freshly restored and painted gates to Arnos Vale Cemetery. They are not finished quite yet, but they exude that Victorian confidence that made this Necropolis a fashionable place to find your plot
