I've been fighting a cold, determined not to let it get the better of me but the wretched thing snuck up on me when I had my guard down...so honey and lemon is the order of the day. We were meant to be going away for the New Year but since I have this cold and my poor husband has a really bad bout of gout, we are staying home :( I hope you are all keeping bug free and have a happy, healthy and prosperous 2017! I'm quite behind with commenting hoping to catch up soon.

One day Narcissus was walking in the woods when Echo the mountain nymph, saw him, fell deeply in love, and followed him. Narcissus sensed he was being followed and shouted, "Who's there?" Echo repeated, "Who's there?" She eventually revealed her identity and attempted to embrace him. He stepped away and told her to leave him alone. She was heartbroken and spent the rest of her life in lonely glens until nothing but an echo sound remained of her. Nemesis the goddess of revenge, decided to punish Narcissus. During the summer, he was thirsty after hunting, and the goddess lured him to a pool where he leaned upon the water and saw himself in the bloom of youth. Narcissus didn’t realize it was merely his own reflection and fell deeply in love with it, as if it was somebody else. Unable to leave the allure of his image, he eventually realized that his love could not be reciprocated and he lost his will to live, and perished.

I declare February LOVE, romance and beauty month.

Mon cœur est un bouquet de violettes...

The viola is a large family containing 500 species,they are on record in Greece from the 4th century B.C.

Later in Europe, it was discovered that a plant similar to a viola grew in open areas. The plant found mostly in fields and amongst rocks in the Alps, hence Alpine.

It became known as a wild pansy (French:pensÈe). It might have been a romantic Frenchman who 'named' it... A pensÈe can be a thought or a saying, short or it can be as long as a paragraph, a page, a poem!

Maybe he thought of his loved-one, dried one amongst some book he carried? Juste une pensée… (pansy?) lol.

These delicately fragrant flowers come in a wonderful variety of colours. The dark centres in some flowers are thought to resemble little faces.

These are a smaller variety (a flower not much bigger than my thumbnail!), that I have in the garden, I could not resist photographing them in the studio...

Eelco and I were astounded at the beauty of the Slot Canyon near Page, Arizona. Our guide, Rob, attempted to provide us the best photographic opportunities in the narrow, dark canyon. Eelco and I were kind of doubtful any of our photos would come out because it was so cloudy that day. Additionally we had some techinical difficulties with tripods and determining the proper ISO for such a place. Nevertheless, we managed to get a few good snaps.

I loved this pond with Pickerel weed and a Water lily. Pickerel weed has heartshaped leaves, as you can see here. The blue flowers have a yellow spot on the upper petals, probably to attract insects.
