A restaurant of heads covered by unbrellas . . . When I came upon this scene . . . all I could see was umbrellas and heads as far as I could see.

And I didn't have anything to drink either!!

Hoary-headed Grebe, Poliocephalus poliocephalus

This one was enjoying the first touch of sunshine over the reeds in its pond

Driving though Skye, the moody skies kept on coming, then some sunlight broke through. There was no particular point of focal interst to weight the viewers eye to, so I used some movement to convey the feeling the light was evoking, as it slowly swept its way across the vista.

A short stop by the side of the road and then onward to the next undiscovered beauty-spot.

I went to Thickson's Woods on Friday during a short break in the rain. I didn't expect to see much so I was surprised to find this Blue-headed Vireo down low in the woods. Such a beautiful bird.

The Grey-headed Swamphen, formerly considered a subspecies of the Purple Swamphen, was elevated to full species status in 2015. It was introduced to North America in the late 1990s in the Pembroke Pines, Florida area. State wildlife biologists attempted to eradicate the birds, but they have multiplied and can now be found in many areas of southern Florida. Clicked at the Chirakkal Chira.

The federal Minister of Transport announced tonight that, among other things, the Pelee Island ferry cannot operate in a way that would take me and my friends Paul and Jodie to the Island for our annual birding/photography adventure. I was looking forward to getting a better image of this bird - one that has eluded me. From Pelee last year.

Temperatures and fresh snow are falling as CN A435 gains speed at Vaughan approaching Goreway. Headed west into the night.

The lighthouse and fog horn at Dunnet Head, the most northernly point on the Scottish mainland. Built in 1831 by Robert Stevenson, it is another lighthouse by the famous Stevenson lighthouse builders, who built almost 100 of the Scottish lighthouses. This was the site of WWII RADAR stations used to track U-boats and aircraft attempting to pass through Pentland Firth. Orkney is on the horizon.

This beaver sleeps with its tail underneath it so you can actually see it there above the head. You can also see there's ice on the pond, brrr.

A couple of months ago I posted a picture of this Heron just after it caught a snake in the Musiara Marsh area. This is the next shot in the sequence. There's one final image to post in another couple of months.
