The weather has been terrible in recent weeks with non-stop rain. Today was my first chance for a long time to get out and enjoy some sunshine on just a short walk on nearby Esher Common.

I decided I needed a smaller camera for general use. I've no intention of ditching the D600, which I love, but sometimes it's good to reduce the weight and bulk and be less obtrusive. I opted for the Lumix GX7 micro four thirds camera with the power zoom 14-42mm for compactness. Despite very limited opportunity to use it so far I have been impressed. This hardly shows it's full capabilities, but is a seven exposure HDR captured in RAW, processed in LR5 and Photomatix, and with motion blur added in PS.

Située à quelques encâblures de Roscoff dans le nord Finistère, l'île de Batz est un petite île paisible longue de 3,5 km tournée vers la pêche et surtout l'agriculture qui a transformé l'île en un grand jardin.

En dehors de ses paysages agricoles, l'île offre une grande diversité d'espaces naturels : plages de sable fin, massifs dunaires, côtes rocheuses, landes et zones humides se succèdent tout au long du littoral.

Baignée par un micro-climat, l'Île de Batz a su conserver une flore très riche comme en témoigne le jardin Georges Delaselle qui a été remis en valeur par le Conservatoire du Littoral.

We were very fortunate to spend this year's 4th of July holiday with family & friends, and we had an absolutely fantastic time! We also had a rare opportunity to attend a fireworks show as a guest of the team responsible for running the event.

Just wanted to say thank you to Doug, Brian, and the rest of the team for giving us the opportunity to see how a professional fireworks display is choreographed and executed. The show was outstanding, and will be remembered by us for a long time to come.

Here's a few of my favorite fireworks shots that I took at their show... These are all non-HDR captures, and have been finished in Photoshop.

This swift moving creek along the Cataract Trail feeds the Cataract Falls in the Mt Tamalpais watershed. A 3 shot HDR capture. The hike was around 6 miles round trip!

Here's another late afternoon HDR capture, looking west from the CN Tower.

You can see Lake Ontario, Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (island to the left), the Rogers Centre (previously the Skydome) at the bottom (home of the Blue Jays) and the Gardiner Expressway.

Une expo longue (32 secondes) sur le Vieux Château de l'île d'Yeu au soleil couchant.

Il a été bâti au Moyen-Age sur un îlot de la côte sauvage et servait de refuge à la population. Tout au long de son histoire, l'île d'Yeu isolée en haute mer a en effet été visitée par des flottes ennemies qui venaient s'y ravitailler et rançonner la population.

Assailli par la mer, le château se retrouve à marée haute isolé de la terre ferme.

On dit qu'il aurait inspiré Hergé pour son album l'Île Noire.

[ The Old Castle of l'Ile d'Yeu was built during the Middle Ages on an island of the wild coast and was used as refuge to the population.

It may have inspired Hergé for the album The Black Island. ]

Une autre version très différente de celle précédemment postée du Vieux Château de l'île d'Yeu, expo longue en noir et blanc (61 secondes), prise depuis la Raie de la Vache.

As my previous "Poulteney Bridge , Bath" picture, this capture is again an HDR capture however 5 shots at a faster shutter speed....so a lot of questions in my first capture was asked about "How did I do this"...so hopefully this will explain.

Both sets of captures were taken handhelp , both sets of shots were taken in manual , to keep the camera still i pressed my camera against a railing that now is stopping people from getting up close to the wier.Setting the Sony Alpha A550 dial was the hardest part as I did not want the camera to move...slowly but surely I managed each shot however not know if I got the shot I wanted I finally captured around 30 shots of the water ect...The last thought on this image was to also play about with the F stops and so left it at F14 and in my own opinion they came out ok....hope you enjoy

Taken at the conclusion to a great ride. Saw the sunset forming an hurried to this overlook to capture the image. My first attempt at an HDR capture. 4 exposures at 2 stop increments.

Doge Suite Inspired by the ornate chambers of the Doge’s Palace in Venice, this richly decorated suite of two bedrooms and a private sitting room was assigned to Mr. Hearst’s special guests. They were literally surrounded by museum-quality art, including beautifully painted antique ceilings overhead. An arched marble balcony featuring carved lions— long a symbol of Venice—frames views of the eastern mountains. HDR Capture, hand held, bracketed 3 shots using my 40D. I waited until all the guest left as they moved on to the next room. Its great to be the last in line.

Un nouveau cliché pris lors d'un des couchers de soleil les plus mémorables auquel j'ai eu la chance d'assister sur l'île de Ré au pied du phare des Baleines.

Il faut dire que les conditions étaient particulièrement difficiles : un vent terrible (pas question de faire une pose longue !), des embruns qui venaient constamment salir mes filtres et aussi quelques gouttes de pluie, mais quel spectacle !

Sur la gauche, la Vieille Tour des Baleines construite en 1682 sur ordre de Colbert d'après un programme établi par Vauban pour protéger l'arsenal de Rochefort.

En arrière-plan une écluse à poissons (construction en pierres qui permet de capturer des poissons en les piégeant à la marée descendante et qui participe aussi à limiter l'érosion marine).

Sur la droite le phare des Baleineaux.
