This is the Haystack Rock at Seaside. There is a larger one at Pacific City and a third one down near Bandon.. Yes it is confusing but they are a bit different even tho they have the same name... Happy Sliders Sunday, Everybody!!!!
Sunset at Cannon Beach, Oregon. Captured using stacked ND filters to facilitate a long exposure of 180 seconds.
The wonderful sea stacks known as The Needles that rest just next to Haystack Rock along Cannon Beach, Oregon. Enjoy!
We spent Thanksgiving at the beach and were lucky to have beautiful sunny weather and gorgeous sunsets every night.
(A couple days late posting to the 12 months group due to travel 😊)
On this day, Bald Eagles intermittently flying over Haystack Rock would stir up large numbers of Common Murres. The Murres filled the air with a cyclone of activity until danger passed. If you look creatively, you might be able to imagine that they are all Tufted Puffins instead. :-)
Captured using a Pergear 10mm F8 Pancake Fisheye Lens.

Haystack Rock is one of Oregon's most recognizable landmarks. At low tide, one can carefully explore the varied sea life clinging to rough surfaces.
The link below shares information about the Ochre Sea Star (Pisaster ochraceus). It is a commonly found sea star in the Pacific Ocean. Additionally is considered an important indicator for the health of the intertidal zone.
Many sea stars live to a minimal age of four years. P. ochraceus can live as long as twenty years.

Yeager rock is a glacial erratic. These large rocks litter the landscape in this area of Washington. They were transported here by glaciers or icebergs about sixteen thousand years ago. Yeager Rock was named after a family who homesteaded here.
I love it when the beach turns into a mirror, usually as the tide rolls out. Walking across a massive reflection of the sky has a sort of peaceful isolation to it. Each footstep can land on a cloud or a deep blue hole.
This was an amazing day. No sunset to speak of, but a long, drowsy time of golden and blue reflections.
Haystack Rock looks great in all kinds of light, but I particularly liked this morning. I wasn’t alone.

And Scavenge Challenge #8. What's the biggest rock (boulder) you can find? Show something with it for scale.

I re-edited an old picture of Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach, Oregon. I think this might have been around a 5 min exposure.... This is my favorite place on earth and I have a strong itch to go back!
I had to do a bit of work to get any even half-way decent pictures, but still, very exciting to see these birds!
Tufted Puffin, Fratercula cirrhata
At dawn. It was an unseasonable 38 degrees F (3.3 C), and I didn't realize the tide was coming in. My feet were suddenly very cold...

Gaia and I were out at the coast on Sunday to see if we could catch a sunset. We did. I haven't done many sunsets or sunrises lately. The pandemic has taken much of the wind out of my sails when it comes to being out in public. Way too many people still aren't paying attention to the guidelines, and it's dangerous for Gaia to be around people like that, even outdoors. So, everyone, please enable everyone, including folks with depressed immune systems, to enjoy the outdoors by masking up when near anyone not in your immediate household, and keep your distance. People can be infected when oudoors. To those of you who mask up, and follow the state's guidelines: Thank you very much. Your effors are much appreciated.
