Cannon Beach, Oregon
I'm back home from one trip, flying out in the morning for another - a whole 10 hours away from the airport.
Haystack Rock and Cannon Beach shot from Crescent Beach in Oregon. Framed by the bird rock haystacks.
Haystack Rock is one of the most recognisable features on the Oregon coast.
It's a 235 foot (72 metre) tall basalt rock originally formed from lava flows about 15 million years ago.
Shot from a distance. I liked the light at this moment. Desaturating it made it more dramatic I think.
A break in the storm front, a little before sunset, yielded these interesting colors in the sky. An hour later it was pouring, again.
Cape Kiwanda is part of the Three Capes Scenic Route (along with Cape Meares and Cape Lookout). Kiwanda is the smallest of the three, but it is one of the best places to experience spectacular wave action. Pacific City is the home of the Pacific Dory Fleet. South of Cape Kiwanda is the dory boat launching area. North of Cape Kiwanda to Tierra Del Mar is a stretch of beach popular with picnickers. Kiwanda provides great hang gliding and kite flying opportunities.
This early morning view at low tide is from Ecola Point with Cannon Beach and the famous Haystack Rock visible in the background. Misty rain clouds were making their way up the coastline which added to the moodiness of the scene.
Cannon Beach, Oregon
By midday Cannon Beach is bustling with tourists and families enjoying the long stretch of sand, but in the early morning fog it was nearly deserted. It has been such a hot and dry summer that I reveled in walking through the mist, feeling the coolness of it and the damp air on my face, hearing only the sounds of the crashing waves and the occasional squawk of the seagulls.
Shortly after I took this photo looking toward Haystack Rock, the fog rolled in closer to shore, obscuring the rocks. As the lines between sea and shore blurred and the fog swirled around, it was a moment to feel at one with the beach and the ocean.
I was in Cannon Beach, on the coast of Oregon with my wife. We took a sunset walk in dull gray light, but it transformed into this amazing scene. It was really spectacular!

A dreary, foggy evening on the beach at Cannon Beach, Oregon. Had a great day with a late breakfast, a long run, a nap, this photo session, then dinner at Pizza a' Feta, finishing with The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown with some beer in the hotel room.

This image was taken at Cannon Beach. The silhouette is that of Haystack Rock! Just another pic from our trip to the Oregon Coast. Increase Contrast and Hue/Saturation in Photoshop. Added Lens Flare in Photoshop for that final touch. No HDR here. Just one long exposure shot of 1 second at wide aperture of f/2.8.
Have a great Friday everyone! TGIF!

A group was parked in the spot I wanted to stand in. They took endless photos of themselves as the sun went down. So they became part of my subject.
