This is my backup drive, and while it's mostly the contents of my Mac, it had some files I didn't have elsewhere.
And I dropped it.
It started making exactly the kind of noise that hard drives don't - a sort of squeaking noise, instead of the drive spinning up.
I guessed it was probably the kind of catastrophic hardware fault that costs several hundred pounds to fix - and the missing data really isn't worth that much. So, nothing to lose in opening it up...
It seems that the spindle motor has jammed. This is repairable, but as this page suggests, the motor is fixed to the bottom of the case, and would require removing all the spindles and a second drive to transplant them into. It's not easy, which is probably why it costs a lot of money.
Oh well. I'll be more careful next time.

An old out of date hard drive from my old computer. I have seen many images of these things of flickr so I had to give it a go. I suppose this is a kind of product shot. The set up was pretty hard to do in the beginning but I soon realised that keeping things simple made things easier.

Accidental File and Folder deletion happens. Whether it was a result of a mass deletion followed by the realization that you needed just one of the files, deleting the wrong version of a document, or just accidentally hitting the delete button, everyone has been there. Some people sulk, complain, and/or throw the computer out the window, but those with the right knowledge — and the right software — can have a much happier outcome. Even if this is from my old camera, this does not mean I switched back. It is only that there is a backlog of roughly 1500 old photos on my harddisk... And I am still intent on bringing that down to 2 digits numbers.

I held a masked ball for my 20th birthday. (2008)
Spending months planning and dreaming (and sewing a huge ball gown and making a matching mask) and ofcourse making the perfect invitations. The style of the ball was pink and over the top a la Marie Antoinette and it really was a great party!
* Sadly a few days after my harddisk died, having had no time to make a backup of the pictures. so I don't have any pictures of the actual party. :(
It is very easy to work with the Harddisk box where it is possible to install up to four Harddisks. The box can be taken out, then connect all the cables, and then re-install the box in is proper place.

Two days before these pictures resulted, i had taken better ones. Unfortunately, my notebook's harddisk broke down exactly when I was moving the data to the external harddisk, which means that those pictures were deleted :(
The latest member in the family.
Two days after I decided not to buy it David and I asked a friend to buy the kit with the EF-S 18 - 135mm at the IT Show - David got the lens, I got the body, memory cards, tripod, and the Canon Crumpler bag. We plan to sell the free harddisk drive to recover part of the cost.
I can retire my old workhorse the 350D now.
Ik was oude foto's aan het kijken op mijn harde schijf en kwam deze tegen / I was watching some old photos on my harddisk and I found this one.

Net een mega computer en harddiskcrash gehad. Al mijn foto's van de afgelopen jaren kwijt. Voortaan maar een dubbele disk back-up! Nu wel een nieuw moederbord ingebouwd met meer geheugen dus photoshoppen gaat een stuk beter.

Just had a major computer and harddisk crash. All photo's of the past years are gone. From now on a double disk backup! I now have a new motherboard with more memory so photoshop works a lot better.
