Upstairs at Smith Hall, now Playmakers Theatre, on the UNC Chapel Hill campus.
Copy of an image shown on exhibit at Davis Library in August 2012.
The building shown here, Smith Hall, now Playmakers Theatre, served as the library until 1910.
Steam radiators, which are seen here heating the room, were widely in use by about 1885 (invented late 1850s). I judge this image (see also study desks with cast iron bases, to the left) to date from about 1895.
I wonder where all the sculpture is now?
LATER: I was told, and a spot check of images bears this out, that the remains of this collection of casts of classical statuary is now located in Murchey Hall on campus, home to the Classics Department.

This special Kitchen Pendant Light Fixture works perfectly over a Kitchen island.
The specifications are:
Illumination: OSRAM LINESTA- 150watt bulb @ 39" long
Canopy: Nickel Plated Polished Steel.
Fixture: Stainless Steel Frame, wrapped in a Cloth and RicePaper Composite. Sealed.
Quite often Mica (specifically AMBER colored Mica) is associated
with Arts and Crafts Lamps and Furnishings.
Also- "industrial-strength" wire cloth such as this 8 mesh,
is rarely seen in Fine Home Interiors.
So to see these two materials used in this way- in a "Transitional-style" Home-
is to me, a unique and striking application of these materials.
Note, that by the by addition of the dark brownish/black color of the Black Patinaed Steel, the two colors- Amber and Black Patina combine for a simple , yet stark / clean look,
appropriate for many styles of Interior Design.

This spectacular Byzantine chandelier was installed in Holy Ascension Orthodox Church (Mt. Pleasant, SC) in April, 2012. When I designed the church eight years earlier, I planned for this chandelier. It is modelled upon the 'Munich Choros', a medieval Byzantine fixture similar to the one still in place in the Decani Monastery, Kosovo. Thanks to a memorial gift, I have finally had the opportunity to build this choros. It is 18 feet in diameter, 22 feet tall, and made primarily of plasma-cut steel parts articulated with hinges. The candles on top are electrified, while the glass lamps hanging below are able to hold oil or candles. The bars include an inscription in ornamental lettering from the book of Revelation: "There shall be no night there, and they need no candle, neither light of the sun, for the Lord God giveth them light, and they shall reign for ever and ever."
Ringling Museum portico - flying buttresses and niche with sculpture.
Barely discernible in this photo is a monumental sculpture located in a recessed arch at the terminus of the North portico of the Ringling Museum of Art. The subject is a 1920's fine bronze casting of *Laocoön and his sons beset by serpents. Laocoön was a Troyan priest of Apollo.
As related by Virgil, the priest tried to warn the citizens of Troy about the Trojan Horse. He dared to protest against bringing the wooden horse into the city of Troy, uttering the famous words "Whatever it is, even when Greeks bring gifts I fear them, gifts and all" (Virgil, The Aeneid, Book II, 59-70). According to the story, the Gods favored the Greek invaders, and sent sea serpents to strangle Laocoön and his sons at the altar of Neptune.
The original 1st Century A.D. sculpture was discovered in 1506 in the ruins of Titus Palace in Rome and is on display in the Vatican museum.
*Another example of the model, referenced by the Christie's link above, is the one retained by The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, Florida (Bequest of John Ringling, 1936, SN5084). John Ringling (d. 1936) purchased many fine bronze reproductions of famous ancient sculptures directly from the Chiurazzi Foundry, Naples, Italy, during the 1920s.

...i'll provide a little simple 2-prim water pool, but my idea is that most of us already have so many great things in our inventories, and i hope to just provide a space to put them in....

In Kerala bronze (bell metal or gun metal) popularly known as Odu is used for making small and big vessels, lamps etc. Huge wick lamps in different sizes and shapes like the Nilavilakku , Thookkuvilakku - hanging lamp, etc are widely used in each and every house. But even today for rituals and religious occasions 'Odu' wares are still used. A variety of bronze (Vellodu) is often used for making the uruli and it has more alloy content of lead.
The odu is cast mostly in northern Kerala. Places like Payyannur and Kunhimangalam in Kannur, Irinjalakuda in Thrissur, Pallippuram in Palakkad - are all in the northern regions and towards south Aranmula and Mannar in Alappuzha district have several bronze casting units.
The originals are pretty expensive.

Jupiter buy this lamp!
We are in love with how this turned out. We took a vintage thermos, an old church foyer pendant and the mounting plate of a discarded bathroom wall sconce to create this action packed lamp.
The top of the thermos sports the tip of a chandelier crystal that blinks a point of red light from a C7 bulb hidden inside the thermos. At the base we've installed a medium base flickering neon bulb to simulate rocket fire.
The vintage church pendant houses a C7 light green swirl painted bulb that gives the outer globe a "planet-like" glow, hence the Jupiter reference mentioned above.
Both components are controlled by a center mounted rotary switch. 18"W base x 19" at highest point...tip of thermos. All bulbs included.
Waddesdon Manor, Oxfordshire.
Visit to Waddesdon Manor (HP18 0JH) in September 2015. Usual National Trust stately home but with some problems for the photographer. Inside light very low (to protect furnishings etc.) and often very yellow. Lot of work to get some reasonable shots to put here.
Nice grounds and worth a visit. Exotic bird aviary, modern sculptures and older statutes to look at. Good cafe and restaurant but can get very crowded.
Shooting photographs through black wire mesh is never easy.
Would recommend.
