Tsukihime wearing my handmade doll kimono.
I bought some undyed kimono fabric to dye myself! It's the first one I've made for my dolls. I love the pastel rainbow green.
This kimono has been sold.
Handmade crane kanzash, a kind of Japanese fabric art. These are made out of the same silk that is used in making kimono. I used kimono fabric, which you can see in red and gold, and ivory habutae (the very light weight silk used in lining kimono; it is very expressive).
This kimono fabric is from a wedding kimono fabric...I only have a very small amount of this fabric, so this is a special design.
正月飾りで作った鶴です。このつるはいつものより二倍おおきくて作るのを工夫しました! 綺麗にできたら嬉しいです。
Playing with weft floats and loops, and finishing with vintage metal buttons. Inspired by colors and patterns outside my rowhouse in Philly. #handmadebyme #handwoven #weaving
I made some kimono for these fashion dolls! They are Monster High and Ever After High dolls Clawdeen and Apple White. I'm making tiny tsumami zaiku to go with them soon. These are 1/6 fashion dolls.
I used kimono fabric to make these kimono.
This purple kanzashi is a custom for a lovely customer!
Loving the sheer uchikake. It's so mythical and sweet!!
The festive flowers are wonderful for this little doll!
I love the colors.
Do you like the karuta obi? It's quite big on Indigo...
Etsy Trashion Palchemy: my 1st creation!
This beautiful Kanzashi flower, is mounted on a pin back, so it would look gorgeous on your hood! It has been constructed out of recycled materials, provided by bloomsburygroup.etsy.com, as a part of Trashion Palchemy project! For this project I used a button, a funny wooden o bead wrapped with turquoise twine, 2 beads, 3 pieces of scrap fabric, and some hemp string from my Palchemical conection with Bloomsburygroup. I added a pinback, some nylon thread, love, and joy from my own stash.
Length: 4 ½” from the top of the petal to the bottom of the bead
Width: 3” from petal tip to petal tip
Depth: 1”
Both the flower and the hood are in my Etsy Shop! To find out more about my shop please see my profile.
My exclusive 'Bambi Forever' design...but this time for spring. No longer wading through snow, this little deer is romping with butterflies in a field of flowers!
:o)
Vintage kimono. I sewed this one for dolls. I decided to preserve the texture of shibori. Shibori is most well recognised by the puckering resist dye.
NOTE: I am the sewer, not the dyer. Kimono dying is very specialised, and not really something you'd do as a hobby, as the designing and dying of kimono is both intense and expensive.
I get my kimono from vintage shops, "recycle" quality that has obvious flaws in parts of human kimono. I cut around these places as best I can, and hope the kimono can be born again for dolls.
That said!
Resist in the dying means "stays the same color after you dye the rest," so you can see the careful white patterns. These are made by stitching a thread through the fabric, winding the thread around the fabric tightly so the dye cannot reach. Then, it is carefully unspun after you dye it, and you can see the beautiful white among a sea of blue.
February is the month for chocolate, and my two tiny girls can't but agree. ♥
Mio is wearing little silk flowers, hand dyed by me for a cute spring-y look.
BJD photos of works-in-progress. :)
The purple kimono is an inner-kimono, a nagajyuban, so it's very soft. This is the first kimono I made to fit doll chateau-- small torsos and loooong legs. :) ♥ The fabric is shibori (a specialized dying technique)
The obi (outer ribbon/belt...it's an obi...) is made of vintage kimono too... I was playing with sizes. How do you like this design?
The light red with leaves fabric is the 裾除け (susoyoke) a kind of slip for kimono. The blue bit with string is the obiage (the sash) is doubling as a tie to keep it on.
The red fabric bit is the date-eri. It's representing a full layer of under-kimono. ♥ It's pretty either way.
Her knees are tied together to help her not kick when standing.
All handmade by me. I don't own a sewing machine, so it takes a very long time...

Handmade kimono set for a custom order.
The uchikake is made from a wedding kimono, so it is gorgeously detailed with hand-painted Yuzen kimono and gold fleck.
The resin hairpins are size 7 and size 12. (Size 10 would be perfect, if it existed...)
Ariadne is wearing a peach-pink kimono I made,and bush-clover belle flower kanzashi.
Lovely Ariadne lounges so nicely.
The silk has a common motif called 麻の葉 asa no ha, and it is a traditional design, with an addition of flowers.
Which do you prefer?
I love both! For different occasions, obviously.
