My Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier (Logan) doesn’t give me oodles of opportunity to make portraits. She sees the camera come out and immediately looks away… I can hear her thinking “oh no, here comes that crazy cameraman again.”

The Wheaten Terrier was bred in Ireland for over two hundred years to be an all-purpose farm dog whose duties included herding, watching and guarding livestock, and vermin hunting and killing.
They share a common ancestry with the Kerry Blue Terrier and the Irish Terrier but were not owned by gentry. In Ireland, they were commonly referred to as the "Poor Man's Wolfhound." Their tails used to be docked to avoid taxes and were often kept to a specific size.
They are medium-sized dogs, which range on average from 17 to 20 inches (43 to 51 cm) in height and about 30 to 45 pounds (14 to 20 kg) in weight. The breed has a square structure and is well built.
Their soft, silky hair does not shed like most dogs; like human hair and Poodle hair, it keeps growing; they do need trimming and should be brushed and combed once a day to avoid mats.
They are very smart dogs and are easy to train. They love people, and they rarely have aggression issues if obtained from a reputable breeder.

At first glance from a distance I thought this was a real person....he was sitting at the edge of the water at a boat mariner, I assume he's a pirate. I loved his long hair, it looked real!

Cirrus is an atmospheric cloud generally characterized by thin, wispy strands, giving the type its name from the Latin word cirrus meaning a ringlet or curling lock of hair.
It forms when water vapor undergoes deposition at altitudes above 5,000 m (16,500 ft) in temperate regions and above 6,100 m (20,000 ft) in tropical regions.
Cirrus cloud ranges in thickness from 100 m (330 ft) to 8,000 m (26,000 ft)
Contrails are a manmade type of cirrus cloud formed when water vapor from the exhaust of a jet engine condenses on particles, which come from either the surrounding air or the exhaust itself, and freezes, leaving behind a visible trail. The exhaust can also trigger the formation of cirrus by providing ice nuclei when there is an insufficient naturally-occurring supply in the atmosphere.

Oryctes nasicornis reach a length of 20–42 millimetres (0.79–1.65 in), with a maximum of 47 millimetres (1.9 in). It is one of the largest beetles found in Europe. Elytra are reddish brown with a glazed appearance, while head and pronotum are slightly darker. The underside of the body and the legs are covered with long red hair. It is a sexually dimorphic species. The male's head is topped by a long curved horn (hence its common name), while the females have no horns.
The frayed end of the bookmark was initially intended as an imperfect motive. On the screen of the camera, I have not seen the single, almost dropping hair. It was not until the development of the photo on the computer that I noticed it - a nice surprise

Just came in from the first half of cutting my St. Bernard's hair....it takes a good 3 hours or so and I needed a little break....was digging through the archives and decided to pull this one out! This image should be a little dark on your screen, yet there should be good details when viewed large in the clouds and mountain!!!

Osmia bicornis, synonym Osmia rufa, is a species of mason bee, and is known as the red mason bee due to its covering of dense gingery hair. It is a solitary bee that nests in holes or stems and is polylectic, meaning it forages pollen from various different flowering plants. These bees can be seen aggregating together and nests in preexisting hollows, choosing not to excavate their own. These bees are not aggressive; they will only sting if handled very roughly and are safe to be closely observed by children. Females only mate once, usually with closely related males. Further, females can determine the sex ratio of their offspring based on their body size, where larger females will invest more in diploid females eggs than small bees. These bees also have trichromatic colour vision and are important pollinators in agriculture.

the adults are sexually dimorphic; the females are generally larger and plainer in appearance. The males have more contrasting markings and usually smaller. Both exhibit the distinctive forward-facing 'furry' legs at rest.
The moths fly in May and June and are attracted to light.
The larva is very distinctive; similar to that of the Dark Tussock (Dicallomera fascelina), but is generally greenish or yellow, with four conspicuous tufts of yellow hairs. It feeds on a range of deciduous shrubs and trees, and used to be a pest of hop (Humulus lupulus), when it was commonly grown.
Linus under the Plumbago, one of his favourite plants. I caught him nibbling on the flowers, thus the expression on his face. The Plumbago gets a lot of attention and is covered in ginger cat hair. It will soon look like a twin of Linus.

Nest sites are traditional, and are used by successive generations of birds. The nest is a domed structure of moss, grass stems and leaves, with a wide entrance usually pointing down towards water. There is an inner cup of stems, rootlets, leaves and hair. It is built by both sexes over a 28 day period, with the female completing the lining to the inner cup. Info: RSPB.

Good thing I didn't eat the rainbow striped lollipop although I'm a bit surprised how much dust and hairs it collected. Actually no worries, I don't think it will every actually be eaten. :)
Maybe a bit of a stretch but it is Crazy Tuesday and the theme is "Stripes" and I took this photo of a striped lollipop on Monday 13 Sept. Maybe I went overboard with the stripes but once I started I couldn't stop and I think it looks cool so there you have it! Perhaps I can take this even further, we'll see.

I like to think about what I did today and what I want to do tomorrow and all the other tomorrows... I'm telling a story where I am the hero... (and the little girl smiled and turned her gaze towards the old ladies... her grandmothers)...

Other tomorrows... after tomorrow there is another tomorrow... and another one... and another one... other tomorrows (this time the girl was puzzled)
She expected that her grandmothers understood this... after all they have more yesterdays than her... you can see them in their hair... it's all white and grey... one has the color of the winter sky and the other has the hair white with golden accents, just like the golden fields from summer)
The old ladies were surprised... and once again silence descended in the little room.
All was quiet... all except for the fire... You could hear a crackling and popping sound... and it seemed louder... and maybe something else... Was it the wind?

Skull of a carnivorous Marsupial Mouse I found that had been run over on the back road. The ears helped me identify it at the time.
"Small native carnivorous marsupial, greyish-brown above and paler below. Long pointed head with bulging eyes and four pairs of small sharp incisor teeth. Ears are large, thin and crinkly with a notch in the margin. Tail is the same length as the body or shorter and is sparsely haired. It weighs up 71 grams."

(Milvus milvus) I was really thrilled to be able to photograph this incredibly agile wild leucistic red kite on a recent trip to Mid Wales. Apparently it is a youngster and started appearing at the farm around December time. There are only about 10 of these birds known in the world and three of them have been seen at Gigrin Farm! Leucism is an animal condition in which there is partial loss of pigmentation resulting in white, pale, or patchy coloration of feathers, skin or hair. It is not albinism as they lack the red/pink eyes of a true albino.

Apparently it is a youngster and started appearing at the farm around December time. There are only about 10 of these birds known in the world and three of them have been seen at Gigrin Farm! Leucism is an animal condition in which there is partial loss of pigmentation resulting in white, pale, or patchy coloration of feathers, skin or hair. It is not albinism as they lack the red/pink eyes of a true albino.
How love how the wind is blowing Cisco's mane and Critters ear hair, it looks like I have caught them riding off on whatever adventure they wish to go on.

Very variable species with the largest flowers in the genus ranging from 100-400 mm in diameter. Clump-forming succulent with fat, green, erect, deeply ribbed stems, up to 200 mm tall and 30 mm thick.
The flowers are large, star-shaped 5-petalled, pale yellow in color, with transverse crimson lines variable in color and covered with purplish or crimson hairs.
It is the most widely north-south distributed species and occurs in Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa.

The François' langur (Trachypithecus francoisi), also known as the Francois' leaf monkey, Tonkin leaf monkey, or white side-burned black langur is a species of lutung and the type species of its species group. François' langur is a medium-sized primate with black, silky hair. It has very distinct white sideburns that grow down from its ears to the corners of its cheeks. It is one of the least studied of the species belonging to the Colobinae subfamily. The species is distributed from Southwestern China to northeastern Vietnam. The total number of wild individuals is unknown, but fewer than 500 are believed to be left in Vietnam and 1,400–1,650 in China. About 60 langurs are in captivity in North American zoos. The species is named after Auguste François (1857–1935), who was the French Consul at Lungchow in southern China.

On my way to Woodward the other day, I stopped by the lake to see what I could see. I found this great blue heron who was unwilling to move due to the wind. I was closer to it than it wanted me to be. I had to get close enough to capture that bad wind hair! It never flew and I moved on, giving it some space.
