The Beverly Area Arts Alliance
The inaugural Beverly Art Walk (2014) was a grassroots effort organized by a small group of artists who hope to identify, build community, and create opportunities for artists on Chicago’s far South Side. The response from local artists, business, organizations, and community leaders wildly exceeded the founding group’s expectations. Through donated labor, professional services, funding, and space, the first annual Art Walk, held in October during Chicago Artist’s month, featured work by nearly 100 area artists in more than 35 venues across Beverly, two pop-up gallery spaces, artist demonstrations, home studio tours, 13 bands, and the community production of three murals.
More than 3,000 visitors attended from the neighborhood, and across the city. A vacant property was cleaned up and transformed into a gallery, several local businesses had a record sales day, and many artists and artisans sold work. Throughout this process, new networks and friendships were formed and much fun was had by all---planning meetings were fit into already busy lives and usually included food, wine/beer and children. These successes speak to the power of art and creativity to foster and transform community.
To continue this positive momentum, Beverly Art Walk organizers are in the processing of formally establishing the Beverly Area Arts Alliance (The Alliance). The Alliance aims to more deeply cultivate collaboration between artists and community members and to foster Beverly as a hub of culture and creativity on Chicago’s far Southside and a vibrant place to live and do business. In the past year The Alliance has hosted an additional pop up gallery in a vacant property and a local business and launched and a quarterly literary reading, The Frunchroom. The 2015 Beverly Art Walk will take place on Saturday, October 3rd. To learn more see www.beverlyarts.org
This installation is a representation of the collaborative process of our organization. Many meetings happened at one member’s, or another member’s, dining room or kitchen table, or at a table in the local brew pub. Most meetings are announced via FaceBook, or email, or text, and are open to anyone and everyone interested in contributing. Different chairs represent the different perspectives that come to the table.
While seemingly informal with snacks and alcohol, the core founding members decided specific goals and created agendas to see their ideas through to fruition. The table includes ephemera from Alliance meetings, and pictures to show the people of the Alliance taking action of the stuff of meetings. The posters on the wall are from the events that were born from this process. The quote on the wall sums up the attitude of the Alliance in its birth year.
Thank you to Megan Boguszko, David Barsotti, and Sal Campbell of The Alliance for creating this installation. The first Beverly Art Walk was the brain child of Monica Wilczak and Sal Campbell. The Art Walk and The Alliance have been made possible by the volunteer efforts of many. Core board members are Monica Wilczak, Sal Campbell, Chris Wilczak, David Barsotti, Lizzy Benner, Corinne Rose, Megan Boguszko, and Susannah Papish.

Me and Laura Borealisis posing in front of our artwork together.
It was a blast meeting her and the other artists. Its a bummer i didnt take a photo with Nemo Boko and Anna Tadaro! The energy of this show is amazingly psychedelic with strong influence of the Goddess with some pleasantly deep shamanic intent.

As the youngest participant of the show "jetzt hier. Gegenwartskunst. aus dem Kunstfonds" I'm happy to announce as well the publishing of a well done small catalogue for the show. It's more like a booklet that reminds me on another nice catalogue i had years ago in my hands. Maybe the aim was to make a booklet that fit's into a bag of art collectors and world travelling curators instead of producing another heavy weight book. I really like the idea and the price is fair, too - only 5€. But the catalogue is not the only thing i like to promote. Today i offer a guided tour in Dresden - Friedrichstadt - to Murals and public interventions in Dresden-Friedrichstadt - feel free to come around - start 4 p.m. - Adlergasse 14 / riesa efau entrance - there is no fee - donations are always welcome.

The Great Longing – The Act of Painting
Our summer exhibition – The Great Longing -– features some twenty contemporary artists, principally from the Netherlands and Sweden, working in the field of abstract art and exploring their varied forms of expression in the widest sense. The exhibition includes everything from powerfully expressive abstract paintings to more subdued, analytical forms of expression. The participating artists make use of numerous different methods including alchemical processes, linguistic experiments, or more intuitive and experimental approaches.
The participating artists are: Katarina Andersson, Raymond Cuijpers, Julius Göthlin, Lukas Göthman, Wieteke Heldens, Jeroen Hofhuizen, Yukako Isobe, Rudy Klomp, André Kruysen, Ray Moon, Mayako Nakamura, Jacco Olivier, Bella Rune, Astrid Sylwan, Jim Thorell, Cole Verhoeven, Charlotte Warsen and Johan Zetterquist.
The artists mainly based in the Netherlands have previously worked together under the name TAOP – The Act of Painting. They function as an artists’ collective in which Raymond Cuijpers and Jeroen Hofhuizen are the main driving force and curate and organize exhibitions in various parts of the world. At each exhibition they seek to achieve a site-specific character by inviting participation from artists in the country in which they are exhibiting.
Even though the membership of TAOPs is constantly changing, the intuitive process remains particularly important and in focus. The creative act – the actual business of painting, of linking together the inner and outer worlds. In the actual, creative moment there is often an intense sense of presence, and so creativity itself forms a longing for this.
Among the Swedish participants there are established artists like Katarina Andersson, Astrid Sylwan, Lukas Göthman and Bella Rune, Johan Zetterquist, as well as a somewhat younger generation of painters like Julius Göthlin and Jim Thorell. The Swedish artists lack the common starting point of their Dutch colleagues, but base their work on rather more varied experiences and cross-border themes.
Normally, abstract or non-figurative art is not concerned with imitating or depicting an outer reality but lets such formal aspects as relationships of colour and form speak their own language or poetry. It is now more than a hundred years since the Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky created the first abstract work in 1911, though here in Sweden Hilma af Klint was creating abstract paintings at about the same time, even though these were not exhibited. Both painters are concerned with a spiritual dimension in art.
After the end of World War II abstract art enjoyed a major breakthrough, becoming synonymous with modernity. During the 1950s and 1960s, minimalism and abstract expressionism also became popular. The Great Longing provides us with an insight into what abstract art can look like today.
Curators of the exhibition are Raymond Cuijpers, Lukas Göthman och Agneta von Zeipel, the last two being responsible for the Swedish participants.

Curators of the exhibition are Raymond Cuijpers, Lukas Göthman och Agneta von Zeipel, the last two being responsible for the Swedish participants.
taking also part at a groupshow at ArtAsylum Boston.
