Thanks Hafners! We can finally make pancakes that don't burn or take 5 minutes to make and we can cook four of them at one time!! So awesome! Glass cooktops might look nice and are super easy to clean, but they're impossible to make pancakes on!
On the warf, we had breakfast at a tiny little diner. There was one long counter and several booths. The waitress sat at the counter and ate breakfast in between taking our order and serving our meal. It was a very relaxed atmosphere. We took turns discussing the made up backstories of the waitress, cook, and patrons.
One that was especially interesting was the man who was sitting at the counter with his kid, and when the cook would run out for a moment, he would slide behind the counter and serve food or take over cooking. She thought he was a regular who was so familiar with the place that he could take over any of the jobs. I thought he was the owner who hung around to make sure everything went smoothly.

So I made it to the Griddle Cafe in Hollywood and holy crap do they have amazing breakfast and brunch!!! Love this place.
Pictured here are their blueberry flapjacks. Note the size of the (dainty) coffee cup to that of the blueberries. This is not an optical illusion or trick due to the camera angle, those flapjacks where GINORMOUS!!!!!! (I think I heard they're 12") But they were -really- good, topped with a blueberry sour cream (amazing) and powdered sugar. Awesome. Though that plate has 3 flapjacks on it and I don't think I even managed to get through 1/4 of the plate!

We went to The Griddle Cafe (http://www.thegriddlecafe.com/) in West Hollywood the next day for my birthday brunch where Jodi, the owner, fixed up some non-menu Red Velvet PanCAKES for us. Amazingly good food. You can see the write-up I did about it here: community.livejournal.com/picturing_food/5078630.html
Gerry finally got the proper temperature on the griddle for baking off the tortillas after I screwed up 3 batches on the fire. (thank goodness for gas stoves)
So we were able to have tasty and fresh corn tortillas on the island. (I love corn tortillas, flour tortillas not so much)
The griddle-smashed, USDA prime brisket burger uses trim from the brisket, on a potato bun, and is an homage to the Big Mac complete with their version of the Big Mac sauce, $11. The popularity has become so great that it’s becoming a signature item. That’s LaPianta and Lee behind it.
