An early morning visitor to the garden of the Villa nr Loule, Algarve. A very obliging Macro subject.

About 3 weeks after I saw the creamy-colored nymph, I found this grasshopper today, same bush. It's huge. If it's not the developed version of the first post, it must be a look-alike cousin. Poor thing - got flushed out again with the garden hose with some intent, although the plant needed a dousing in preparation for the record-setting heat of today (115 degrees). Besides the face only a mother could love, the wings are pretty neat viewed large.

Found this little guy sitting in the warm sun on the edge of the swimming pool.

I think this is a Common Green Grasshopper. I spotted this one land conveniently in the open on this stick which made it relatively easy to get a couple of shots.

I can't help but see a big toothy grin here...

Most likely a field grasshopper but I'm not good at identifying these insects.

Not sure if I wasn't paying attention most of this summer or what, but today was the first time I came across / seen a Grasshopper.

Tuesday morning the weather looked like it was going to be fabulous and I wanted to take advantage of it but had commitments from noon on so I decided to make a quick trip out to Brazos Bend to see if I could have any luck with the Henslow’s Sparrows that have been seen there recently. When I arrived, it looked like it was going to be a perfect morning and I did notice some sparrow activity before the sun came up. Not long after I got all set up for photos I was joined by Mike Williams (Twilly) who obviously also thought it might be a good morning for sparrows. We watched and waited and as things often happen with bird photography, nature ended up doing something different than what we expected. We did get a glimpse of a Henslow’s Sparrow but not really anything that lent itself to photography. What we did get was this Grasshopper Sparrow that was doing its best to look precious.

Mike and I had a good conversation and got some nice photos of this sparrow so I’m glad I went out. Nature always seems to give us a reward if we are open to it.

Grasshopper in vegetation along the Clark Fork River near Bearmouth in Granite County, Montana.

Despite the weather, Elle and I went grasshopper hunting and came up trumps! These are Large Marsh Grasshoppers and among the rarest in the UK. They're so special the I've even written a short blog post on them which features many more shots.

At Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary this fall, the number of grasshoppers is just staggering. Visiting migrants will have an ample food supply as they pass through. This guy was pretty well camouflaged on this speckled grass blade.

Not much to say really, just a grasshopper...

Not sure about identity but my best estimate is a female Eastern Toothed Bermius (Bermius odontocerus) by appearance. However, my home is a few hundred metres from the particular preferred creek habitat. Over to the expert field naturalists at this point ...

This grasshopper was huge! Saw it from the hotel balcony "flying" towards a plant about 20 feet away, at first I thought it was a bird. Jaco, Costa Rica.

how did this tiny fellow make it into my apartment?

I found this grasshopper on a wild iris, while hiking the Narnia Trail in Michigan's upper peninsula. I wonder if it's an immature grasshopper, since it's wings looks very small.

#DoodlewashAUG2024 prompt: Grasshopper. Did you know bright protective coloration like that of the rainbow grasshopper, which warns off predators, is called aposematism?

"Grasshopper" weathervane, Royal Exchange, London, 30 Jan 2023

The Royal Exchange was founded by Thomas Gresham. The grasshopper was his heraldic symbol.

These sweethearts are so hard to photograph: they're hardly visible and if you do see them, they hop to another blade of grass. That's probably why we call them "grasshoppers". :-))

This is the small meadow grasshopper: 1.5 – 2 cm.

Suddenly I'm seeing these very young (or very small!) grasshoppers around the house - this one was sitting on a mistflower leaf...

Many thanks to those who comment on my photo's and/or add them as favourites.
