A secretive bird, it will fly a short distance when flushed, and then drop back into the grass out of sight. They usually stay out of sight unless they are singing, when they will perch on a weed stalk, shrub, or fence wire and belt out their buzzy song.

That is all true, except for here. You can always depend on finding one or two at this spot.

Chorthippus parallelus, the meadow grasshopper, is a common species of grasshopper found in non-arid grasslands throughout the well vegetated areas of Europe and some adjoining areas of Asia.

As always, many thanks for taking the time to view, fave and comment. That's very much appreciated

Grasshopper

A grasshopper visiting our garden and landing om blue flowers.

I think (please correct me if it's wrong) it's a in latin Tettigonia cantans or in dutch kleine Groene sabelsprinkhaan and in english a Small Green Bush-Cricket

This was the smallest and most adorable grasshopper that I've ever found. It was about 5 or 6 mm long. Photographed in Maryland today.

Meadow Grasshopper (ID advise welcome) Another attempt at a "macro" from about 10ft away at 600mm🤔

Near Putnum, Callahan County, TX

This little one there was less than 1/4 inch (about 6mm). It blended in and was so small barely saw it there on the leaf. Looks like a baby grasshopper to me.

The 2nd (and probably last) grasshopper image. I wanted one in colour and one in black and white.. Job Done!

Appropriately for this species, grasshoppers are the primary prey. Adults prepare grasshoppers for chicks by removing the legs of the insects, vigorously shaking them off pair by pair.

Usually hard to see, this wee bird was happy to sing for the camera at the same spot for two days. His favourite perch is a few metres from a track used by hillwalkers. This was at the end of the breeding season so we were very lucky to get such an opportunity.

This perch was along a busy fence line bordering some open grassy pasture land. This sparrow was singing along this fence line and would frequent this perch which produced an isolated effect.
