I found this grasshopper on my lawn last weekend while I was trimming hedges. I thought what a better opportunity for a macro shot! So, like a kid, I caught the grasshopper in my hand and transferred him to the lid of my trash can. Got the camera, and started snapping away! I must say, the grasshopper was very cooperative during the photo shoot. At the end, I put the bug back on the lawn and he buzzed away. These insects have a very mechanical look about them! Thanks to all who view, fav, and comment on my images. It is very much appreciated!

Enjoy the weekend~!

After a fine hike and some easy climbing passages, we finally arrived at the summit of Capu d'Orto.

Although it was a bit hazy that day, we really liked the view over the Gulf of Porto from the summit. We guess, our "grasshopper" with the light backback felt the same :)

Grasshoppers are medium to large insects. Adult length is 1 to 7 cm, depending on the species. They have chewing mouthparts, two pairs of wings, one narrow and tough, the other wide and flexible, and long hind legs for jumping. They are different from these groups in having short antennae that don't reach very far back on their bodies.

A secretive bird, it will fly a short distance when flushed, and then drop back into the grass out of sight. They usually stay out of sight unless they are singing, when they will perch on a weed stalk, shrub, or fence wire and belt out their buzzy song.

That is all true, except for here. You can always depend on finding one or two at this spot.
