Macro Mondays: Typography

Graphite on vellum, approximately 75" x 38". Drawn blindly while listening to an 12-minute field recording of a tree trimmer at a public park in Cairo. Right side = right hand = right ear, left side = left hand = left ear.

Playing with some old pencils. All the pencils are from the Berol Eagle recycled line (admittedly mine are from when I was in high school, so I couldn't tell you if they still make them) I don't know what the tan ones are recycled from, but the blue ones are made from recycled denim. I took about 50 shots and actually liked almost all of them for one reason or another these are my favorites. :)

I love doing these, but it takes awhile as each drawing generally requires about a week of work. Much fine detail is lost during the combination between artwork and photograph, but I haven't found a way around it yet. I do, however, enjoy how it slows me down, causing the photograph to hang around for at least a week while the artwork gets completed.
