"Evolution is so creative. That's how we got giraffes."

Kurt Vonnegut

I remember spending countless hours drawing when I was a child. When the opportunity to retire came about, I grabbed my graphite pencils and headed off to the local art center for classes. Who says you can't reclaim the fun you had as a child?

The ability to leave marks on paper and other objects gave graphite its name, given in 1789 by German mineralogist Abraham Gottlob Werner. It stems from γράφειν ("graphein"), meaning to write or draw in Ancient Greek.

The “line_up“ is a paperwork series I developed since 2010. The “liners” are made out of paper (Din A3/A4),

oil paint and graphite. The theme is the hermetical laws of polarity and movement. There is no ending and no beginning in any direction, just an endless movement. You have the possibility to arrange the papers like you want and that makes it an endless playground for my photo-work and the eyes of the viewers.

Feeding my pencil obsession...

I tried so hard :), took a creative photo of the spiked object for Macro Mondays, but alas, it was removed from the group. OK, good. Here is the whole drawing.

All the same as previous - botanical illustration. Graphite pencil. Wild Rose.

In the forests of the night:

What immortal hand or eye,

Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?"

The moment I saw a photograph of this man, I knew I'd try to capture his intense gaze. This graphite drawing was my first attempt at capturing that moment in time.
